Once--the movie

Anyone see this?

Really nice movie. The songs were written & sung by the actors, and were very effective in the context of the movie.

It was so different, timeless in a way. It had no sex, no violence, no hip styles, just interesting characters, and a very natural feel.

it was a cute little movie. i didn't want to like it because it looked like a schmaltzy little alterna-folk romantic indie fluff pic, and that's exactly what it was - but in the best possible way!

I know what you mean, but if I'm going to see a certain "type" of movie, I prefer this to, say:

"The next move she busts could change the world!"

or:

"Two young tourists, one psychopath, and a drill press!!"

true. and as schmaltzy romantic movies go, 'once' fell prey to very few of the cliches that most of those flicks have. it was a very simple, intelligent, earnest little movie.

nod that's what struck me, too. Aside form the high quality of the acting, music, direction, story, it was the things it didn't do that really impressed me.

This was one of the best movies I saw last year. I don't really do romantic movies, but this made me want to fall in love again. And there's not even a kiss between the two leads.

I really liked it. I thought the music was beautiful. It could have been better but I would give it 3 out of 5 stars.
America's political system used to be about the "pursuit of happiness." Now more and more of us want to stop chasing it and have it delivered.

The music was so effective in the context, too. The song they sing in the music store (that's up for an oscar, I see) has been stuck in my head for days.

It's actually not the greatest song ever, but its simple melody worked absolutely perfectly for the scene. You could believe a musician could learn such a simple song quickly.

And to watch it go from "da da da da" to the two of them harmonizing and immediately creating something special was really beautiful.
