I work for a bank (can't say which but it's one of the majors) and it amazes me that some people even have or want a checking account. To whom it may concern (and you know who you are) STOP writing checks on a deposit you JUST made! You're not supposed to write checks on funds that have not become available. And then you want to blame the bank for returning checks that posted insufficient. STOP blaming the bank for your overspending! Just because you hear on the automated service or see online that your balance is $XYZ doesn't mean that you haven't spent money on a purchase (such as gas) that hasn't been posted yet. As a matter of fact don't even use those services. They're really just for convenience. Go old school and use a check register to add up all your credits and debits to really see how much you've got...Because then you get a string of insufficient charges and try to place the blame on the bank! You are the one responsible for managing your money. If you don't like your deposits being held for days, if you don't like being charged $25-35 on a debit card purchase that you "thought" you had the money for then DON'T BANK! Cash your check and put that money underneath your mattress. Remember YOU chose to bank with us! You came to US and opened an account. We gave you a disclosure booklet upon account opening. It's not the banks fault you didn't read it! It discloses important information such as how you must maintain $XYZ balance in order to avoid a monthly service charge. Quit complaining you were NEVER TOLD of the service fee! Sorry for the rant but I'm tired of dealing with IDIOTS everyday!

I work at a department store and stores HATE it when people pay with a check, the ones that do this are usually old people that don't know what atm card is or people that don't have any money and are praying they can get money in there accounts before the check bounces.

They need to eliminate checks and just go with online banking and debit.
