Joe Torre to Yanks - "Take This Job & Shove It!" Good for Joe. The Yankees didn't want him back, so they low-balled him. Joe wasn't having that sh!t. Twelve straight playoff appearances + four WS rings - pretty good in my book.

A low point in Bronx Bomber history...
...George "Patton" Steinbrenner should get rid of himself for not throwing his cash at the pitching staff the past few seasons. Joe Torre is a class act. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

First of all I could have managed the Yankees to 12 straight play-off appearances and Joe has been living off past success for a long time now. Its funny how he was a bad manager until he got hired by a team willing to buy him whatever he wanted. I would have fired him as well and mark my words he will fail with whatever team is stupid enough to hire him. Simply put the guy is a bad gameday manager and CAN'T manage a bullpen but he gets credit for managing egos but I still say big deal. [Edited 10/19/07 23:27pm]

as a Yankee fan, I appreciate everything Torre has done. But it was time for him to go. The team needs a new voice for all the young players coming up. Hopefully they will give the job to Donnie Baseball...

I don't know yet if that makes things better or worse for the team.

[Edited 10/19/07 23:27pm] One interesting thing I read recently is that the Yankees haven't been to a world series since Don Zimmer left. Perhaps that's why Joe was so good at managing when he was first hired.

I agree with WFAN's Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo. It has more to do with not having the same pitching they did in the late 90s. Who's responsible for that? I say Cashman should be gone too.

It was clear that Torre wasn't wanted, so he should be glad that they even GAVE him an offer to return, ...and allow him to leave with his ego somewhat intact. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

The Yanks pitching wasn't so hot in 2003 (Jeff Weaver & Jose Contreras) yet they somehow made the world series. They overachieved that year and I think you have to give some credit to the manager.

I hope Joe gave them the finger on his way out the door. Classless move by my favorite baseball team.

The Yankee "braintrust" is slowly turning into Knicks management. Levine, Cashman & Hank Steinbrenner are the new Three Stooges. Joe went to the playoffs 12 straight times. What are they going to do if Mattingly or Giradi fail to match what Joe did?

I think he will be the next manager. People talk about his lack of experience - please. Dude spent his whole life in baseball - he'll do just fine. Lack of experience didn't hurt Willie.

Despite what Omar Minaya says, after the Mets season ending collapse this year, I don't think the club supports Willie 100%.

I put most of that sh!t on Omar. Willie didn't put that pitching staff together. And if you believe what Bill Madden wrote not too long ago, Willie's authority in the clubhouse is being undercut by Minaya.
