no, i haven't watched it or the exorcist.

i don't doubt that if fucked up things are happening
that you can't explain that you would turn to your religion.
and daniela yes, i would guess there are more sites/books
who use the story to support their belief rather than question the
existence of demonic possesion. for me it just comes down
to the fact we are intrinsically fallible. just human.

if she was possessed then that was tragic that she was not exorcised
if she died because we didn't understand how to help her illness then that is tragic too.

Sounds like she was poisoned by her mother from day one.

Did anyone see the movie?

In the movie the priest said Emily (annaleise) gave him a letter telling him that the Virgin Mary came to her and told her that the reason God did this was to draw ppl to the spiritual realm and bring about believers.

I think it would be great for God to do something like that.

But I'm not sure I believe that he has.....

from reading the link that Dani posted it seems as if she had a severe mental illness compounded by the adults in her life making her feel guilty about other peoples actions and sufferings i think its very sad.

...I live in the same house, that my mom, dad and grandmother all died in.NOT the same day... They all just happened to die while at home in their beds. My grandmother died in her sleep in her room, now my daughters room, 20 yrs ago. My Dad had a heart attack, and died in his sleep. in what is now my family room. My Mom died in her sleep after a long illness, in her sleep..in what is now my room. Nothing creepy or scary about it, it's actually very comforting, this house has been in the family for 50 yrs. and my parents loved it.
