Inpirational story of OBESITY , HOWEVER... http://www.cnn.com/2007/H...index.html
This is a real inspirational story of how an Obese person went from 500 to 240 puonds. (he is still working towards losing more). Although I love stories like this, I'm a bit suspicious of this story becuase it appears to be one of those vieled commercials that New Channels now run as legitimate "articles" or stories. This person mentions the Southbeach diet twice. Does this look legit? Or does it look like one of those paid for "articles" that News Channels now run as legit? | |

They always look legit though. CNN ran dozens of these "commercials" on their new channels in which the new anchor actually passes the actor pluging a product off as a journalist. It was very strange. I just get paranoid when I see articles now and they're plugging a product. I never know if it's legit or some commercial disquised as the real thing.  | |

That's another good point. Inspiration--perhaps. Postiive, definately. But news? Not really. He doesn't even tip the scale at the super-large, nor has lost as much weight as some other folks have. I'm not trying to detract from his accomplishment in any way, as it's great that he's doing this. HOWEVER, this screams "commercial" in disquise to me. | |

I was stunned when Democracynow did a couple of stories on these "fake reports". News Channels and venues are passing these stories off as true stories, often referring to the spokesperson as an anchor or reporter, when in fact they're product plugs and commercials. Scary. | |

It could be a legit story...but, a personal one, not a NEWS story. It comes from the "I story" section of the CNN Web site...which is a portal for readers to write in their own experiences on various topics. http://www.cnn.com/exchange/ Right now CNN is asking for weight loss stories. The guy who wrote his story mentioned the South Beach diet only once...so I think it could be the real thing. If it is, good for him for taking care of himself!  | |
