I totally feel what you're going through here. I just recently had my dog pass away. I won't go into detail, as there is already a thread about it (I'll post a link below if you want to read about it), but I'm still mourning him.
It is hard, because of the fact that animals become our children, yet have such short lifespans. I was so attached to Hoppy, and even though I knew he was not long for this world, his passing still hit me like a freight train. The love of a dog is completely unconditional, and to lose it is never easy. There are those who may say "it's just a dog", but they just don't get it. To have been loved by a dog is to have known the purest form of love found on this earth.

I'm very sorry to hear about your lil friend! Hang in there. I have 2 chihuahuas I had to leave behind in AZ when I moved to Cali because they would just be sitting in an apartment alone all day and I miss them like crazy. I cannot imagine losing one or both of them!

wow - he sure was a beautiful dog - certainly looked like the happiest dog in the world..
hes probably running around in doggy heaven - causing chaos and breaking a few doggy hearts 
again, sorry for your loss - but just think of the many happy years he gave you and you gave him and maybe you wont feel so sad
as im sat here - my kitty is running around downstairs  chasing a sweety wrapper round the kitchen so funny to listen to! - pets make up such a huge part of your life so just cherish every moment with them - I know they certainly do
