Game Show Host Retiring In 2007

HOLLYWOOD -- After giving out prizes on "The Price is Right" for 35 years, Bob Barker will be getting a prize of his own next year. He is going to retire. In an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, Barker said his last show will be June 7, 2007.

Barker jokes that he wants to step down while he's "still young." He turns 83 on Dec. 12.

Barker admited he will miss the show and is "frightened by the thought of getting up in the morning and there will be no more shows."


He said a search for a new host has been going on for two or three years.

By the time he retires, Barker will have been on the tube for half a century, and he said he's "enjoyed every moment."



Now who would be a good replacement??

Wow....I was watching him on tv since before I went to kindergarten.

As long as the replacement is a womanizer too, it should go smoothly.

^^ It's going to be too strange not seeing Bob on The Price is Right. Him and the show are a part of my earliest memories. I went to a taping of the show in 2002 and it was some of the most fun I've ever had and Bob is funny as hell. Bob will be truly be missed but I can't think of who could host the show after him. If he's a quarter as good as Bob then it'll be all good.

Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

Awww...The Price Is Right without Bob Barker is gonna be like cornflakes without the milk!

I seldom watch the show much these days but it was always cool to be channel surfing and come across it every now and then and still see Bob doing his thing.

this thread ... brings up another topic ... i mean .... when u are that big ... that into being a game show host --- why wouldnt u just hang up the jock strap and pursue other fun things ???? it amazes me ! ... really ... i woulda done it til i was like 70 ... and said ... ok ... i am in good health .... lets have some fun out on the ranch or somethin !!! ... i mean ... i think it is great that he was able to do it so long ... but ... how long is enuf ...by saying this of course i am not saying how long is enuf for bob barker --- we know now ... but for YOU ... how long would enuf be ... i woulda taken early retirement after his millions made and enjoy life !!! (in other ways) ... then again ... i guess BOB was tappin a couple of the vanna lookalikes for a while ... so it was still fun for him for a while ....

It's been a long trip watching this man on t.v. Back in the day when he was dying his hair still...when Janice,Dian & Holly were the models and when they played games that don't even exist anymore!!!(Remember BUMP!!!)

As u can tell I'm what Bob would call a "loyal friend and true." He will truly be missed on the air. I hope Game show Network go back to showing the old episodes from the 70's, 80's and early 90's.

From what I heard about his womanzing off stage persona.....I didn't really care for him, but as a host I think he's irreplaceable. It was bad enough when Rod Roddy died and they had to replace him....now Bob. Well 83 is pretty old, and if I was him at that age I think the last place I'd wanna be is on stage with bright ass lights in my face trying to cooperate with people playing games. He was starting to become a pushy old man too.....the way he'd respond to contestants who were indecisive.
