I watched part 1 last night. I was tired but I stayed up and finished the whole thing anyway. The whole Katrina event really pulled back the curtains in this country. It revealed all of the skeletons in our own closet as a nation and its something that we all have a role in fixing, if we choose to. Its a very powerful and emotional doc.

nod Bush supporters will just bash Spike and disregard anything that is presented here. The bottom line fact is that the Federal government abandoned that city. In 2 days we were halfway around the world to help the Tsunami victims but couldn't pull it together for 5 days for our very own citizens.

The local and state government obviously could not cope and we watched them asking for help day after day after day after day. Bush supporters want Bush to have no responsibility in this tragedy, and that is undertandable since he has little responsibility anyway being that he's the most vacationed president in history, but if you have a mother who has taken her children to the public pool and her child becomes in danger but she can't help becuase she can't swim....nobody in their right mind would excuse the lifeguard that sits back and does nothing because the mother afterall is responsible for her own child. We pay taxes to this government for a reason and since they enjoy our money, they should be there when we need them. But Bush supporters will only blame these victims. Sick and disgraceful.

I watched part 1 and cried almost the whole time. The only time I wasn't crying was when I was mad as hell.

The Government shitted on the Black Folks of New Orleans. They did it twice before? I know y'all caught that shit about them Dynamite-ing the levees in 65 and once before also.... And the lady and others who were saying they heard explosions prior to the water rushing in.

Mutha-fucka. I could not sleep last night.
The bodies. All over the place.

I can't wait to see the rest tonight.Everybody needs to get their asses on HBO and watch this shit like we did when Roots aired back in the day.

one of my aunts that evacuated before the storm told her son she didn't want to stay there during the hurricane because she didn't want to be sitting up on top of the house like she was when they blew up the levees in 69. My cousin told her that wasn't true and they wouldn't do that.

she's sitting in alabama now saying um hm they did it again.

we thought she was just old and deluded, now hmmm I don't know.

this was one of the most powerful documentaries I have ever seen. It might be THE most powerful.

Spike Lee did a fantastic job on it, and I don't know how he had enough emotional energy to get through it. EVERY AMERICAN NEEDS TO SEE THIS FILM!

Hard to watch but a mandatory view.

What struck me (beyond documentary's focus on the Hurricane Katrina situation) was that if there's a local/national disaster or even if a large section of the population decides to "wild-out" (i.e. post-Rodney King verdict here in L.A.), you'd better be prepared to take care of yourself for an extended period of time.

Sad to say, but when it comes to immediate government assistance in times of crisis...

we need to stop thinking our gov't will protect us.

If they protected the french quarter back then, why wouldn't they do the same today.

There's no way the govt blew up the levees. As powerful as the military is, they are absolutely no match for mom nature. Nothing could navigate out there during that size of a hurricane to be able to blow up levees.

I have a friend that's a meteoroligist/air traffic controller in Florida and he said "If the military has something that can maneuver during a cat. (category) 5, then we should be landing on Jupiter very soon."

But why? You have to ask yourself why would the govt want THAT particular land when it's basically swamp. It's not like beachfront property here in L.A., I have fam in the deepest parts of La. and it's a lot of swamp. What would the govt gain by displacing Blacks, and more importantly why at THAT point? Why 2005? La. isn't a big political state that sways an election.

Now if this was Florida and this happened then MAYBE you could get me to think that way but not for swamp land in La.
