saw sandra bernhard's new show last night...

it was like a religious experience. i love her.

the show was good, but not great. motherhood has softened her quite a bit, and i prefer old sandra, who was bitter and acidic rather than touchy-feely sadnra, but that's just me. the first part of the show was kinda old sandra, then she changed onstage into a more comfy outfit, and talked about her kid and wife, and then it got to be more touchy-feely.

anyway, whe did a HUGE prince bit! she is a fan, and has often done prince bits in her shows, but this one was an entire segment. for her encore, she came back on stage in a trenchcoat and tall boots (a la early prince), and ironically and sardonically started talking abotu giving it all up and going straight and becoming a good christian, not swearing anymore, ect, making sly digs at prince doing the same, and then sang a long medley of "nasty girl" "i would die 4 u" little red corvette" and even a few lines of "sometimes it snows in april"

was kinda cute. not the best part of the show, but cute.

I'm a huge fan of Sandra's. I actually met her at one of her book signings (LOVE, LOVE & LOVE) and I gave her a casette of a lot of Prince music. I included my name and number and of course I never even got a thank you. I still love her though.

How jealous am I, that you saw her!

both times i've seen her perform live, she ended her show with 'little red corvette' - she is definitely a prince fan! i'm glad she's getting a little more touchy-feely...the last time i saw her, she was spitting so much bile at the bush administration that i just wanted her to let it go and start making fun of Vogue ads like the good old days. then i got a "bootleg" CD of one of her recent shows and it wasn't even funny - she was just railing against whatever was getting on her nerves. maybe girlfriend needed to calm it down a bit...

she was kinda bitchy at the chicago booksigning, and they had some fool walking up and down the line yelling "no questions about madonna!". we passed the bookstore about an hour after we got our books signed, and there was no line at all. poor sandy. we were tempted to go in and ask her if she wanted to come get a drink with us, but she was all in chanel and we knew coco wouldn't have wanted it that way.

have you ever tried to buy anything from her web site? the CDs look tempting, but when you get the actual product, it's just cheaply done CD-Rs with labels and covers made from those Memorex labelling kits you can get at Target. This would be fine if they didn't charge such ridiculous prices for the CDs - but thirty-some dollars for a wonky sounding audience recording slapped together with cheap labelling supplies? i don't think so! plus it took me forever to get this shit. bad juju. but i still love miss sandra, despite it all.

I'd love to but I'm traveling so much this year already. It's very tempting.
