As most of you already know, Daylight Savings Time starts tonight. Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour (except for you lucky people in Arizona and, I believe, Illinois, who don't observe this twice a year event).

I just recently learned that Daylight Savings Time is also observed in Europe, which I never knew before. I always thought that it was something that was only done in the U.S.

Well this is confusing... we had this a week ago in the UK! Or was it 2 weeks ago...

God I hate this time change stuff.... One less hour I get to deprive myself of valuable sleep.....

It might have been a week ago in the UK, because someone at work had printed off something about the observation of Daylight Savings Time in Europe. That was how I found out it wasn't US only.

I was talking to a friend from Kokomo, IN on Thursday, and she was oblivious to the fact that they're going to daylight saving time.

we don't do it here
except the rest of the country makes fun of us
and it never fails - there are heated arguements twice a fucking year about it

for our geographic position we are in a sense already observing it.
i like that we don't have to fuss

we put our clocks back 1 hour last night. Ask ocean why her state don't participate in daylight savings and she will tell you because it fades the curtains

It's part of the governor's efforts to improve Indiana's economy. His argument was basically that the state needed to get in line with the rest of the country, because the previous time situation caused confusion for businesses located outside the state and even deterred them from doing business with Indiana or opening an office/factory/whatever there.

Also, the issue had been debated in the state legislature for about 30 years... after that long, one would expect it to pass eventually.

and scroll down to the map where most of the state is cream-colored, with red and green areas. If you lived in the cream-colored area -- which I did -- you spent half the year on New York time and half the year on Chicago time.

The red counties are in the Central Time Zone and did observe DST. It's unclear to me whether the observation of DST was official, but it was consistent, at least up in northwest Indiana, which is part of the Chicagoland area. (People there wanted to stay on Chicago time year-round.)

Things were more confusing in the green counties, which are in the Eastern Time Zone and unofficially observed DST in order to stay on the same time as Cincinnati, OH, and Louisville, KY. I rarely visited that part of the state, but it seemed to me as if they weren't consistent about it. I've heard people there speak of "slow time" and "fast time."

I'm actually not thrilled about the change. Now that I live in Seattle, the time difference is an issue for things like phone calls to Indiana. Until this year, there was only a two-hour difference during DST. But now they'll be three hours ahead all year long.

i'm sure there are tons of hoosiers who are confused as can be right about now...i remember when i first moved to new york from indiana, and i had to change my clock for the first time. i couldn't wrap my mind around the idea. i got used to it easily enough, but the first time was like, "WHAT'S the point of this again??"
