Is this illegal...?

why am I asking legal advice in this forum..?...I haven't a clue, but here goes..

If a telemarketer calls you at work..is it illegal to say dirty things to them?...things like...what are you wearing..?..it's an effective way to get them off the phone quickly...but..
considering the fact that they called me, not the reverse..it's not like I've placed the call with the intent to make it dirty..

There's a funny commercial here in Scotland, for tea, where the telemarketer phones the woman and she interrupts him and says "Can I put you on hold?" and sits the phone next to a kids toy that plays silly music when you squeeze it! Then she goes and makes a cup of tea, lol, and comes back and says "I appreciate your call, thankyou for holding!" Then goes away again! lol

i also love the seinfeld approach of asking the telemarketer for their home number so you can call them back while they're having dinner. giggle

giggle Thats a good one too!! I just hate how they talk for so long until they give you a chance to say no thanks, I dont like interrupting them but they talk for ages!! Then you feel like youve wasted their time anyway shrug

My brother always just starts talking gibberish or making disgusting sound effects like he's gargling, choking or being tortured.

They always hang up.

My conversations with telemarketers usually go like this (nobody ever pronounces my surname correctly)...

Caller: Hello. Is this Mr.... erm... Iron? Is it Mr. Iron? Mr. Eeron?
Me: Who is this?
Caller: I would like to speak to Mr. Ion please.
Me: Which Mr. I'0nn?
Caller: Ah... Mr. Justin Eon please. Is this Mr. Justin Eon?
Me: Mr. Justin I'0nn was my father and he's been dead for six years. Is this some kind of sick joke?
Caller: Oh. We're very sorry. We weren't aware of...
Me: You people are bloody disgusting. Why are you torturing me like this? Do you get some kind of twisted pleasure from upsetting people? I can't stand it anymore!!! Aaaaaargh!!!
Caller: We're very sorry. Goodbye.

I used to always say in a very timid voice "could I say no thank you?" and they alway say "why, yes" and then I say it and hang up.
One time I asked the lady if she had kids and I asked her all sorts of questions about them, how old they were, what were their names, she was quite impatient to hang up biggrin
If they call from a automated dialler I just hang up if I hear the pause and click.
my husband just gives the phone to the baby to play with and he says "dog" or "bup" to them.

nod that is legal.

It is something like what I use to do.

When a telemarketer use to call me, I would berate the person on the phone. I would tell them their life must really suck if that was the best job they could find. I would tell them the world would be better off if they were to go home that night and just kill themself. I would tell that they should hang up with me, walk out and find a real job.

I have had some cuss at me and I have made some of them cry. lol
