Yeah he definitely toned down his act sinc ethe 80's. I guess after a certain age people feel as though they should stop swearing and try be more grown up.

Most people eventually mature and realize they don't have to do certain things anymore as they are already famous. Some people will do anything when they are trying to make it or become famous. Look at Madonna - she's done some ridiculously silly, vulgar things in the past and now she's trying to act like a good old english lady. Some people realize that once they have kids, they need to act more mature and responsible so they tone down their antics. I can't see Prince doing half the stupid shit he used to do now. Not just because of his religious beliefs, but more because he's mature now and acts like a man rather than a teenager.People change, people grow up and doing the same stuff becomes stale.

I think it all started right around the time he released his last music album. You know the one with Shabba Ranks and Michael Jackson on it. I'm not saying the album had anything to do with it, but it was around that time that he stopped being funny. It's a shame because I used idolize Eddie.

Well he's got kids now, so his main interest will likely be family fun rather than what he used to do. It might be sad seeing middle aged men trying to compete with fresh young people they themselves influenced, and it wouldn't be appropriate for his kids to enjoy what he's in the public eye for either.

Chris Rock had his own formula in terms of standup.
He's always been much more heady than Eddie Murphy ever was.

And I agree with the Audience, Eddie was never saying syuff like "there's no money in curing AIDS, only in treating it" like Chris Rock.

Eddie's not as funny now, but that scene in Nutty Professor where he plays the whole family is brilliant. I knew people who'd seen it and didn't believe when I told them that they were all played by Eddie.

That's one thing he has on Chris Rock. Chris can't act, play characters, or do impressions.

I agree about Chris Rock having some intelligence to his humour, but I'll always prfer Bill Hicks in that respect.

I won't rest until everyone knows the genius of Bill Hicks. He died in 1994 of cancer of the pancreas aged just 32 while on the verge of becoming a huge star, but he was a bonafide comic genius. Eddie started to lose his credibilty with crap movies like "The Distigushied Gentleman", "Bowfinger", "The Haunted Mansion", and "Holy Man". When Eddie started becoming concerned with looking like Billy Dee Jr.(makeup/eyeliner/Duke Kit) and putting out music CD's in the early 90's, new comics like Martin Lawerence, Chris Rock, and Damon Wayans were kicking his ass. Eddie's made it clear that he wouldn't return back to TV unless his career hit rock bottom. He's really taken himself too seriously. Eddie really should go back out on the road and do stand up comedy, film a couple of the shows, and talk about stuff like his family, his divorce, his friends, etc..(Hell, Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby did it after their popularity started to decline). Eddie also should come back and host "Saturday Night Live" when "Dreamgirls" comes out. A lot of people would probably tune into that and it would probably put him back on the map. Not by 1982's standards but people would see he's still around.
