Girl 6 So, I finally saw this movie last night. I was amusing and enjoyable. I suppose the only thing I didn't care for was the soundtrack. SOme of it worked...much of it didn't. It was a bit too much to have words playing behind the scenes, yet had nothing to do with the scene or it distracted it. Spike should have asked P for instrumentals or something.
And what exactly did the end mean? SHe didn't seem to find her "bottom" even thought the monologue was good. And then she walks out to what is a Girl 6 premire... I also found the phone relationships slightly confusing. Especailly the crazy guy who knows where she lives and all...I was expecting it to become a thriller. What did you guys think of the movie? I enjoy the movie. I think it's pretty good. Teresa RandIe did a fantastic job.
Nice orgasms. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Spike made a lot of bad movies, or just one good one: 'Do The Right Thing'

Spike Lee's weakest movie for sure and that hurts to say.
Some great cameos and pieces e.g. Naomi Campbells "Models Suck" t-shirt, Coati Mundi and partner "What's wrong with a man wanting his wife and her best friend to lick his dick at the same time"! Messy movie overall, what's with that "Girl 6" premiere thing? Who was the guy that was stalkin' her and what made her think they'd spoken b4? As for the Prince songs, "Take Me With U" was always a track SPECIFICALLY designed for the Purple Rain movie IMHO and hearing it in Girl 6 was definitely odd. But nothing can top "Sometimes It Snows In April" - it just didn't work in context with the movie. Some tracks worked well, "How Come You Don't Call..." was perfect, "Housequake" could work for ANY movie party scenario and "Pink Cashmere" is great just for atmosphere alone, in fact the crescendo to the guitatr solo was timed well in context with the movie. The best thing about the movie? - the end" "Girl 6" as a track is great and quite apt. Tommy Barbarella had quite a prominent role for that track I believe. Maybe Mr. Elm should get in2 film scorin'! 'dre Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

Yes, it wasn't his best movie by far, but enjoyable enough to watch on a lazy day. I believe that the falling phones towards the end was borrowed from the scene in Sid & Nancy where they were in the alley kissing and all of the trash was falling from above them. what it means outside of that I don't know. Havn't "scene" it in years.
A big letdown. It just went on and on without involving me at all. One of spikes weakest films.

I used to really HATE it but I caught it recently & some scenes are cool (the phone calls w/ the girls: "don't I look pretty!", the grocery list dude, the baseball dude) but for the most part it's pretty damn bad. I hate that he put Prince all over such a shitty flick but the soundtrack is the only thing that kept me in my seat @ the theater
It's not his worst though - She Hate Me is his worst by far superspaceboy said: And what exactly did the end mean? SHe didn't seem to find her "bottom" even thought the monologue was good. And then she walks out to what is a Girl 6 premire...
You know the monologue is a rehash of Nola Darling's "confession" from She's Gotta Have It, right? Yea, that occurred to me to when I saw it recently - why the fuck did Prince let him use that? It's just wierd, hearing him talk about "Tracy" dying UncleGrandpa said: I believe that the falling phones towards the end was borrowed from the scene in Sid & Nancy where they were in the alley kissing and all of the trash was falling from above them. what it means outside of that I don't know.
I bet you're right He likes to borrow whether it's appropriate or not, like he totally ripped off having the cam & actors on a crane/dolly from Scorcese & uses it in every single narrative film he's made... even Malcolm X!

spikes movies always leave me realizing he knows nothing about women or really developing the female character.
even She's gotta have was limited in scope.

even She's gotta have was limited in scope. Yea, his women are WHACK The one of the biggest examples to me is Jada's character in Bamboozled - how you gonna have a character saying she got where she is by using her brain instead of her body THEN turn around & have her fucking the boss & trying to justify it anyway??!! Stupid shit man, I wish he could have come to see his female characters more fully. But Spike can be very one track, it's just extra when it comes to the women in his films

I have it on tape so Ive watched it many times and cannot figure out what the little girl falling down the elevator on the news has to do with anything in the movie

It symbolizes (at least in my mind) the main character falling further & further away from her dreams... into the darkness of the evil phone sex business ... hitting bottom, so to speak. But the little girl survives it & so does she.
