Another amazing comic book thread!

The other one is now locked, but I got stuff to comment on, so... razz

In the old thread

SciFi said:

Well, apparently Jean Grey is resurrected once more.

The good thing about Morrison killing her off (again) in New X-Men #150 is that then one could pretend that she had never been resurrected at all. razz

Yep, I'm one of those who were in an uproar when she got resurrected back in Fantastic Four/X-Factor. Because they were saying that it wasn't Jean Grey that died on the moon but an energy being pretending to be her. mad

But the point of the tragic Phoenix saga was the human spirit of Jean Grey conquering at the end. She made a sacrifice. And with the revelation that Jean Grey didn't sacrifice diddley, well, that certainly ruined the classic for me. And it ruined the characer of Scott Summers because he dropped his wife and child to rush back to his childhood sweetheart. Some hero he was. disbelief

And then, to try and "save" matters, they made a retroactive change (again), this time saying that his wife had been a villain from the start, so it was alright for him to dump her.

I kept reading the dang X-books because I love so many of the characters, but I never cared for Jean and Scott again. They horrible characters. Awful! Bad! barf

Well, I just read X-Men: The End Book Two - Heroes and Martyrs #4 and it has a scene in there where Madelyne overhears Cyclops talking to himself, admitting and regretting how bad he treated Maddie and their son. eek

I love Chris Claremont! biggrin

Yeah, Claremont recently tied the Phoenix miniseries and the Wolverine Agent of Shield storyline into the latest issue of Uncanny. Now if someone can just tell me between which issues Wolverine joins the Avengers. confuse

Yes, he did that in Uncanny X-Men #460. I just read it. But we still haven't been told what happened with Wolverine and where Wolverine disappeared off to at the beginning of the now recently concluded Savage Land storyline. confuse

Why? According to Preview's Top 100 most ordered comics, Excalibur is selling quite well, so he must be doing somethin right.

Much like John Byrne, he's just riding on his name. I know lots of people who pick up Claremont's books, just because its Claremont. They agree that his writing has become lackluster, but continue to get his stuff because of his past glories. Excalibur is, hands-down, the worst thing I've ever read with his name on it.

Excalibur has been cancelled so you got your wish.

Yes, but... It will be replaced by New Excalibur written by Chris Claremont and starring Sage, Juggernaut, Dazzler, Captain Britain, Pete Wisdom and Nocturne. Isn't that great?! woot!

P.S.
Not that I care about Nocturne. I don't read Exiles. But still... biggrin

Have anybody read:

?

I am amazed by the level of detail in the artwork. The last couple of issues set on Caer Na Og have been absolutely stunningly beautiful. Phil Jimenez has certainly raised the bar with this stuff. The detail in the widescreen panoramas. The details in the architecture. The proliferation of fantastic creatures. drool

Phil Jimenez is not the best writer though. But after four issues I think I am at a point where I'm starting to be able to remember who the characters are from issue to issue, as well as figuring out what is going on. lol

Well, where Marvel has left me cold with the New Avengers, Young Avengers, death of Thor and so on, and I've even cancelled my Amazing Spider-Man subscription because the Sins of the Past storyline is unforgivable and I don't care about this whole new "living at New Avengers headquarters with Mary Jane and Aunt May" situation...

DC has certainly gotten me intrigued again. For a few years there, I had almost completey stopped buying DC, but now I'm buying quite a bit, what with Geoff Johns - whose work at Marvel I liked - writing Teen Titans, Kurt Busiek and Ron Garney doing a JLA arc, and Carlos Pacheco drawing first superman / batman and now Green Lantern. drool

And their current revamping seem to be focused on making what is interesting, rather than doing away with what is, like Marvel currently seems into. Stuff like this...

plus DC Special: The Return of Donna Troy

and the current Crisis of Conscience story arc in JLA...

Now, that's the kind of stuff that can get an old fanboy excited about reading comics again. drool

So what do you all think Infinite Crisis will be about? And aren't you just excited about it?! razz

Well, Ragnarok happened. Don't ask me about the details. I stopped buying Thor with Dan Jurgens' last issue, so I didn't read it, only about it. smile

But I've read that there will be a new series in which Thor's hammer and other artifacts from the destroyed Asgard rains down on Earth and regular mortals will pick up the stuff. It will not be a series about the Gods of Asgard, but - as I have understood it - a book about brand new characters becoming superheroic Earth versions of the Asgardian Gods. Or something silly like that. Think Young Avengers and you're probably close. bored

Yep, Marvel is really being innovative under the mighty leadership of big fat Joe "I-never-could-keep-a-deadline-and-now-neither-can-Marvel-because-I-only-employ-reputedly-tardy-people" Quesada. lol

Thank gawd for Chris Claremont. Uncanny X-Men really is the only Marvel book I am currently enjoying.

I haven't been reading much current stuff, I did just finish reading my copies of Grendel by Matt Wagner. I met him at a con and he signed my slipcase edition and drew a quick sketch, I think he's pretty damn talented.

He did The Aerialist in Dark Horse Presents, about a closet straight in a gay society. At the time it was quite controversial. He never finished the serial. I think it's because it was really homophobic and he lost his nerve. hmm

Was it homophobic? I mean, I don't mind stories that are controversial, alot of times they get labeled and people don't look beyond that and analyze the story. Perhaps he was making a metaphor about gays in straight society? Just throwing ideas out there, I'll try to hunt that title down and give it a read.

I read the final issues of Thor, but I still wouldn't be able to tell you exactly what happened. There were some cool moments like one final battle alongside best friends Iron Man and Captain America and bringing back Beta Ray Bill who became the only survivor of the entire epic. I do remember the whole saga being very grand and poetic, but specifics have been forgotten. I read too many comix these days. Can't remember what happens from one month to the next anymore.

I liked the Earth X explanation that said the Asgardians were really amorphous aliens that settled into the role of Asgardians after observing the beliefs of the local people.
