Any Computer Experts Out There???

Last night I brought from PC World a headset mic so I can voice chat on my IM programmes and theres 2 connections on the cable at the end of it, one for the mic outlet on my soundcard and one for the computer speaker outlet on my soundcard. I unhooked the computer speakers from the speaker outlet and put in the connection meant for the speaker outlet and the other connection I hooked into the mic outlet. Well my soundcard has 3 outlets, and on one of them I have my music system connected 2 my computer via an audio cable, so that I have perfect playback for my mp3s!!
Well before I got this headset mic I voice messaged with a freind of mine on Yahoo IM and I could hear his voice through my music system headphones. The question I wanna ask is, will I still hear him through my music system headphones or the headphones on my headset mic?? And can I play both my music and voice message at the same time??

Any help please would b appreciated!!!

I can think of no logical reason why you shouldn't be able to hear everything at the same time. As far as I know (here's the technical bit) all audio is spewed out of your sound card and will be picked up by whatever you've got plugged into it to transmit sound. On my machine I have a mic plugged in and can sing (well, screech) along with whatever music I'm playing, ala karaoke style. All audio coming in seems to be heard as well, whenever I go to an annoying website with sound I get to hear both my music and the sound from the website.

Of course, this is just speculation on my part, I haven't tried it myself - the thought of yet another way for people to talk at me fills me with horror, quite frankly.

I guess the only way to find out for sure is to try it, but it should work.
