ABC'S "LOST" Is my favorite new show...

It is about 48 survivors of a plane crash adapting to life on an island. The plot centers on an unseen predator lurking in the jungle, a gun and a pair of handcuffs.
For an excellent review go to http://www.npr.org/featur...Id=3931044

Did anyone see it last night?

What did you think

I have never watched Alias...

I was bored last night and tuned to ABC just as the episode began...the opening sequence was great.... it story line is very strange -- I was hooked within the first 30 seconds.

Alot of people are saying that, but I really think this has a chance to be a very good series.

I thought it was great. Held my attention and didn't make me feel stupid. I didn't wince, so there's that. I watched it as the TV reviewer here was jumping out of his seat...so I usually check those out.

I like a series where I don't know what to expect. So it had me there. The thingy in the woods kinda creeped me out. Hopefully it'll be a king kong kinda thing and they'll have to sacrafice a person or two.

Tim Goodman likes Alias and writes:

Often when a show gets called one of the season's best it has some kind of painful, face-scraping grit about it or well-intentioned earnestness or ironic humor welded into 22 precise moments.
It's rarely a brain-free joy ride of good, honest, old-school entertainment. In fact, here's how rare: The last show exactly like that was "Alias," on ABC, created by one J.J. Abrams. Which makes a cool kind of symmetry because "Lost," tonight on ABC -- created by J.J. Abrams -- is a throwback of boundless delights. It's no guilty pleasure -- it's great, no- apologies television.

Oh, there's much to be said about a dense cop drama or a multilayered six- parter from BBC America. But an hourlong drama with thrills, suspense, fine acting and startling twists? Now that's why they made TV sets in the first place.

"Lost" takes a tired, B-grade premise -- a plane crashes on a remote island and there are lots of survivors, yawn -- then runs with it like only Abrams can. Look, this is a guy who once pretty much admitted that he didn't know what was going on with "Alias" but it was going to look cool no matter what. And he delivered on that promise both ways. But you forgive him because for every absurd spy-meets-spy twist that strains logic in "Alias," there's Jennifer Garner with six miles of no-body-fat legs just beating the stuffing out of a dirty foreign assassin.

In "Lost," Abrams manages to infuse the aforementioned limp premise with the kind of zeal that knocks eight hours behind a desk and another one on the bridge right out the cat door. And isn't that what the great masses want? A little entertainment is nothing to be embarrassed about and there's no law in this country that a TV show can't be audaciously ridiculous and fun. And here's the important part, people -- it's OK if that show is moronic and embarrassing but way, way more than OK if that show, like "Lost," is neither of those things and is, all said, an artfully constructed rush to the head.

Matthew Fox ("Party of Five") is the nominal lead in this huge ensemble cast -- Abrams has 48 people as stars, which means he's built it not only for the long haul but also created plenty of people to pick off, one by one. See, these survivors may be on some remote tropical island, but they are most definitely not alone. And they are not all telling the truth about who they are or how they got there.

Better than that? There's a Big Bad in the woods. Maybe more than one. Maybe not related in any way. And nobody -- after two episodes -- has definitively ruled out there being more people on the other side of the island. Who knows, aliens may land. You are in Abrams territory. He may not have it all figured out, but in the absence of logic he's going to have compelling characters do stupendously thrilling things and that will ultimately make you forget that you want to strangle the paper pusher one cubicle over.

Television: A good thing for humankind.

"Lost" has a stellar, varied cast, it is shot beautifully and it surprises more often than it makes you wince or wheeze, which, in the math of action-adventure-sci-fi-thrillers, is a good thing.

So I was intrigued and caught a good show. Though I'll still have to see how it goes after the first few episodes.

it was a great episode last night -- i told my friends when it was over that it was the best series premiere I've ever seen. it will be interesting to see how far it can run under the premise of the "mystery predator". meanwhile, i will continue to tune in.

p.s. i look at Matthew Fox and I see Charlie from Party of 5. He speaks, and I hear Charlie. wink
let me come over it's a beautiful day to play with you in the dark
