MPLS Org Invasion 2004- hotel info and updates

I forgot to list the dates for this invasion again! It's Oct 21-Oct 24!

Hotels
It appears something big is happening in Mpls other than just our Org invasion. CarrieMpls and I have been searching for hotel rooms and have had some troubles...

What we have found is through Expedia.com. We suggest doing the same search through Expedia for Minneapolis and the dates you'll be staying and choosing from the following hotels:
(in our order of preference)
*Ramada Inn Downtown Mpls (41 N 10th Street)
hotel is cheap, located perfectly for stumbling home from First Avenue and on easy buslines

*Radisson Plaza Hotel Minneapolis (35 S 7th Street)
a titch more pricey, but still in a great location and on easy buslines

*Radisson Metrodome (615 Washington Ave SE)
cheaper than the plaza hotel, but not as centrally located, busses may be challenging, cabs to downtown would be cheap

A very cheap option is the Hotel Amsterdam. This is located above a crazy gay bar in the heart of downtown, 2 blocks from First Ave. Again, it's cheap. However, it may not have private bathrooms or clean sheets for that matter It probably isn't that bad, but would be more like a hostel than a hotel. If a number of people coordinated to get rooms in the Amsterdam, it may actually be a very fun and convenient option.

For any of you super rich orgers, feel free to peruse the higher end rooms located in downtown Minneapolis and invite all of us to stay with you!

If these don't work, please let us know and we will search for more. We strongly recommend staying only in downtown Mpls or the immediate vicinity (sorry, there are no hotels Uptown). If you are driving or renting a car, other hotels may be a decent option price wise. But they won't be as convenient for any nighttime activities and cabs to the burbs are pricey!

TRANSPORTATION
Minneapolis has enough public transportation that cars aren't a necessity, but they do make things easier. For those who are not planning on renting a car or coordinating rides with someone, getting to downtown from the airport should be easy. Shuttles from the airport leave every 15 to 30 minutes to the nearby light rail station. Once arriving in downtown, any of the above mentioned hotels will be within walking distance or short bus/cab ride. Busses from downtown to Uptown are easy as pie!

oh my goodness, i can't even contemplate anything vaguely having to do with travel for at least another two weeks. my little NYC labor day weekend excursion wiped my finances all the way out.

meanwhile, if anyone wants to buy a book of matches, i'll be setting up shop in front of the wrigley field sign on addison & clark for the next few weeks.

Yes!

If anyone wants some place to stay for free, I know a couple of local area White Castles with some pretty cozy dumpsters. Stay away from the Lexington Avenue one, though, that's my Love Den!
