Let's Have a Baby

Haven't listened to this song for a long time but it popped up on my ipod shuffle - his lyrics and vocal delivery are so sincere and heartfelt even more so after what happened.

Such a lovely joyful song but a tragic outcome. Having since become a father myself it saddened me to think what he went through.

Oh Spinlight you're so sensitive. I didn't know you had it in you. smile

I like it very much too. It's a very simple, beautiful song.

When songs I dislike have an appreciation thread, I usually make it a rule to stay out and let the people who love it have their say. With this one, I cannot. I detest, loathe, hate this song so much. It, coupled with Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife, are just wretchedly vile.

(Sorry.)

He really bared his emotions on this song and Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother, Wife, can't really hate him for that. Wish he would make such personal material more often instead of soap box preachy stuff, but c'est la vie

As a women who really wants a little one I can tell you the words to this song mean SO much.

Like when he says "he can't even go for a ride, with out thinking about a baby by his side".

Gosh.. I have done the same thing HUNDREDS of times.

I think its a shame what happen to the baby.

I wish he and Mayte could of stayed together and had many beautiful children!!!!

It makes me sad. I don't get how anyone gets pleasure from it at all. I've not listened to it since his child died.

Awww.. it's still a beautiful song... just think about the frame of mind he was in when he wrote and recorded it, not what happened afterwards.

Love this song! Just thinking about it makes me teary eyed. It's so beautiful and honest, and one of his best vocal performances.

I still can't get over how fucking weird Prince acted back then. Like he thought and acted like the baby was still alive. Really eerie.

He was just grieving. Everyone does it differently. Maybe he was just in denial. Judging on how in love he was at the time and all the songs for Mayte and his baby on Emancipation I would say he really really wanted a child. Imagine anticipating having a little you, a little boy, and then having that child, your own flesh and blood not even have a chance at life. Gotta be devastating, but he still had to do interviews and what not. Like that Oprah thing. Maybe he just didn't want the public to know what had happened yet, cause he was still dealing with it. sad Poor baby.

That song makes me cry a little bit for the man, because he really laid it out there for the fans.

For him to let down his guard and be vulnerable, and then have the worst happen - I really do feel for him.

Reminds me very much of my brother, who hides behind a cool facade. Behind it is a very tender person I've seen only occasionally.

Say what you will about Emancipation's "plastic" production (personally, I don't mind it), but IMO his vocals and lyrics are some of the strongest in his career. This song is great!

I'm listening to Emancipation again tonight...and whatever anyone's opinion of it is, can anyone really deny it contains some of his most heartfelt and personal lyrics and musical arrangements?! IMO don't think so! It is a very moving collection and the more I listen to all three discs as a whole, the more I am really moved by the songs that he wrote and sang on this album--not the covers.

Past to the Future--Hmmm.... lol

From Emancipation--"Facedown":

(Dead like Elvis) {sample repeated in song}
Check, check, 1 2, check
U know what he's sayin'?

Face down! {x2}

Somebody once told him that he wouldn't take Prince through the ringer
Let him go down as a washed up singer
Ain't that a bitch?
Thinkin' all along that he wanted 2 be rich
Never respected the root of all evil and he still don't 2 this day, huh
Bury him face down, let the motherfuckers kiss a ass, OK?

Face down! {x2}

Told 'em he wanted 2 sing a song about a black child goin' buck wild
And they just laughed in his face
Talk 2 your lawyer but U got no case
What U need 2 do is keep your place
Next time U pull a card, it better be a ace motherfucker
Or U can lay face down (Face down!)

1 2
Face down! 1 2

Horn {x2}
Bass {x2}

Him and her meaning who I'm singin' about
And his psychoanalyst kinda saw the catalyst
As the devil with the blue jeans on, huh
Ain't it kinda funny when U see the dawn?
Sign the name they gave ya
But when them motherfuckers turn around ass up, U're what?

Face down! 1 2
Face down! New Power Generation in the house, bury 'em all
Face down! Yes, oh Lord
Face down!

Orchestra {x3}
Face down!
Orchestra
Face down!

It's in his will, I read it
He shot 2 kill, he said it
4 those who know the number and don't call
Hmph, fuck all y'all

Face down! {x3}

From 20TEN--"Laydown":

You need to, you need to
You need to laydown
You need to, you need to
You need to laydown

You need to laydown
And let me show you how
We do this thing
Up in funky town

From the heart of Minnesota
Here come the purple Yoda
Guaranteed to bring the dirty new sound
Come on, now

You need to
You need to laydown
Come on

You need to
You need to laydown
I see ya

You need to shut it up
Your cup ain't full enough
Let me show you what I learned
From laying in the cut

You need a six string
And let that sucker ring
The holy funking roll
Let it get the people up

You need to laydown
You need to
You need to laydown

To say this name borders on blasphemy
Everybody wanna be me
If your girlfriend didn't have the surgery
Maybe she could see what I see

You need to, you need to
You need to laydown

You need to laydown
And let me show you how
We do this thing
Up in funky town

From the heart of Minnesota
Here come the purple Yoda
Guaranteed to bring the dirty new sound

Come on, now

Yours ain't really the grove we dance to
We need something more funky to move to
Y'all know what I'm talkin' 'bout
That purple bounce, bounce

Rio de Janeiro
Euro and [Incomprehensible]
This dirty little groove for you
Let's do it now, come on, boo

Bounce, bounce
Come on, now, come on, now
Bounce, bounce
Come on, now, come on, now

Bounce, bounce
Come on, now, come on, now
Bounce, bounce
Come on, now, come on, now

You need to laydown
And let me show you how
We do this thing
Up in funky town

From the heart of Minnesota
Here come the purple Yoda
Guaranteed to bring the dirty new sound
Let's go

Where have I been?! I just realized "Sleep Around" from Emancipation is a great dance song! Should've been released as a dance single--what a shame it wasn't.

Sorry, didn't mean to take your thread on a tangent... I totally agree with you on this song and it is so sad about the tragic outcome and that Prince seems to have since decided it is too risky to try fatherhood again... sad rose
