As a women who really wants a little one I can tell you the words to this song mean SO much.

Like when he says "he can't even go for a ride, with out thinking about a baby by his side".

Gosh.. I have done the same thing HUNDREDS of times.

I think its a shame what happen to the baby.

I wish he and Mayte could of stayed together and had many beautiful children!!!!

me too. A great tragedy for both of them.. really all 3 of them. sad

I still can't get over how fucking weird Prince acted back then. Like he thought and acted like the baby was still alive. Really eerie.

I think it is a bit eerie for some, but honestly I think he couldn't deal with it...And from personal experience, the pain is SO GREAT that you just can't deal with it, so you put it out of your mind and don't even acknowledge it. Like if you don't think/talk about it, it didn't happen. Losing a child that you want SO BAD can absolutely destroy a person inside. So much so that years later a person will hide it from loved ones, etc. Prince was handling it in his own way, some may not understand or agree with it, but it was probably the only way he knew how to handle it. He puts up the fascade like he's so strong and tough and nothing can get to him, and in some ways he is, but he has a heart too and it probably died with that baby...Thinking of it like that, I can't help but cry for him since I know what he went through and he has yet to try it again. It's still not to late, he just has to realize he has so much love inside to give still, he just has to find it. I think he'd make a great dad. Poor Prince...sad

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

It's ok, strictly from a musical sense, but I do appreciate it cuz it's about that part of his life. Can't get realer than this.

a stunner straight from the heart, he laid himself bare and got personal. Just shows how incredible his music can be when he 'gets real'.

When you play this with 'comeback' it truly is heartbreaking. I actually can't bring myself to play this track anymore, to think how inspired he was with this and 'sex in the summer' and how it all ended.

He and Mayte could have ended up a real mess but they both seemingly kept it together and have stayed focussed.

Bless them both.x.

Say what you will about Emancipation's "plastic" production (personally, I don't mind it), but IMO his vocals and lyrics are some of the strongest in his career. This song is great!

I'm listening to Emancipation again tonight...and whatever anyone's opinion of it is, can anyone really deny it contains some of his most heartfelt and personal lyrics and musical arrangements?! IMO don't think so! It is a very moving collection and the more I listen to all three discs as a whole, the more I am really moved by the songs that he wrote and sang on this album--not the covers.

Exactly why it's my all time favorite album!

i guess this thread proves what I say, that music is purely subjective. This song is fantastic to me for several reasons, first, great performance on piano and vocals, never has he displayed his admiration for Patti Labelle so blatantly, the piano playing with the melody being played doubling the vocals and the fantastic jazz harmonies....great song. Lot's of great stuff on the whole album, and for those who wonder or ponder how the childs fate affected him, I think that's why he didn't say much. Prince has always had a major problem with being a public figure and having his privacy invaded, I think it was his way of saying "it's none of anyone's business" and it wasn't really. Unfortunately, I think the songs and the image for that album involved a family life which failed. Prince is also one helluva strong man, he doesn't really know how to stop, so what you see is what you get. People deal with things different, weak people might go crawl into a corner somewhere, strong people who should do other things maybe, forge ahead in trememndous pain and cope the best they can. Prince is a force of nature, if you don't know that by now you never will.
