FEBRUARY 5--It took almost three days, but the first lawsuit has been filed in connection with Janet Jackson's breast. A Tennessee woman yesterday filed a proposed class action lawsuit "on behalf of all Americans" who watched the Super Bowl halftime show and were somehow injured by Miss Jackson's adorned nipple. In the below federal complaint, Terri Carlin, a 47-year-old Knoxville bank employee, contends that Jackson's exposure and other "sexually explicit conduct" during halftime festivities caused viewers to "suffer outrage, anger, embarrassment and serious injury." Details of those supposed injuries were not further described in the complaint filed by attorney Wayne A. Ritchie II. Along with Jackson, Carlin has named as defendants Justin Timberlake, CBS, MTV, and Viacom. Carlin's complaint seeks compensatory and punitive damages, though an exact dollar figure is not specified. But it seems billions would be in order since Carlin notes that punitive damages should not exceed the gross revenues of all defendants for the past three years. (8 pages)

What a load of crap. Particularly about the so-called injustice she's done to Americans abroad. I AM a friggin' American living abroad, with an entire community of American friends over here, and basically we've found that our hosts here (in several European countries) could care LESS about a boob popping out on television, especially if it was a mistake, as alleged by Jackson and Timberlake. Europeans have naked people in soap commercials in the middle of the day, so they actually don't relate to what the flack is all about. If anything, we look like fools to them because of not being able to move past the incident, and class action lawsuits like this being filed.

All this himming and hawing and folks getting banned from shows is just going WAAAY over the top, already...DAMN.

outrage and anger...because that wasn't their tit bein shown throughout the country, i bet.

i heard someone say, earlier this morning, that the nfl brought all of this on itself. his reasoning was great and it was something i hadn't even thought of. Bono and J.lo were in talks to do the halftime show and they wanted to do a benefit for AIDS awareness and have a socio-political messsage. They were told 'no thanks, we don't want a message filled halftime show. we want fun.' well, they hired a bunch of performers who are known for shocking, vulgar, sexual and provocative songs, performances, etc.. now that they got what they wanted, they are complaining and running with their tales between their legs. i think there are record amounts of hypocrisy and backstabbing going on here.
