Luther Stands Up 4 Miss Jackson

I don't know how true this is but I got this from another board.

Mary Ida Vandross to NARAS: “No Janet, no tribute”
Thu February 5, 02:26 AM ET

LOS ANGELES— With family lawyer Bruce Kaminsky at her side, Mary Ida Vandross, mother of R&B superstar Luther Vandross, delivered a resounding message to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.

Mrs. Vandross, 70, reading a prepared statement, didn’t mince words.

“Janet and Luther forged a friendship over 10 years ago and while he won’t attend the Grammy ceremony, he wants, as planned, for Janet to do the tribute in his honor. If Janet doesn’t participate in it, he wants the tribute cancelled. Luther apologizes to anyone that it will incovenience but Janet is his friend and is sticking by her.”

Mr. Vandross, a 2004 multiple Grammy nominee, had a stroke nearly a year ago and was scheduled to appear but had to cancel due to doctors’ orders. A tribute to his longevity is to take place on Sunday with performances by Alicia Keys, Celine Dion and Richard Marx. Janet Jackson was to serve as presenter, narrating clips from Mr. Vandross’ 25 year music career.

Michael Grein, NARAS chairman, was not present but his representatives avowed that “the situation will be rectified before Sunday’s telecast.” Mr. Grein was responsible for removing Ms. Jackson from the Grammy telecast.

it takes a strong person to make a stand-
especially when they can literally barely stand on their own.

simply another example of class from an

extremely

gifted singer & (from what I can tell) good person. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Luther expressed this, & he is totally correct & right to do so. this "Janet Jackson nipple free-for-all media circus" has got to slow down at some point; someone, some media outlets have got to get a grip & put this thing back into some semblance of a "reasonable" perspective..

as this gesture from Luther appears to be true,
let's see how- even if- CBS scrambles to handle this.

I bet I know what they're going to do..
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

I think he could stand up for something more important than a breast on television. Rich broad shows a tit on TV so she can sell more records ("make a statement" - whichever you prefer), and now she needs "support". Cry me a river, Janet.

He's not standing up for "a breast on television", he's standing up over the unfair treatment of a personal friend of his.

In case you are not kidding, I will only say that some people stand taller and communicate more clearly when they are unable to walk or talk than many healthy people I know.

I don't know if it's a rumor or not, but I read that the president of ABC said it will be aired, but not in May as previously planned.

good for luther.

this is not about a breast, as someone stated. this is about a friendship and support. luther may have had problems lately, but he still has a brain. he still knows what is going on.

regardless of what cbs says and regardless of what goes down, the record is getting mad publicity and janet will still be successful. its just going to be a rough patch for a while.

and again, i have to say this is all so ridiculous!

I think so, which is why he could not attend and mostly so because of doctors orders.
There would be a lot of excitment by a lot of people if he were to show up and it may not be good right now for his still somewhat fragile condition.
