Dawn Robinson Comes Outta The Shell(Jawn Juice's Preview) Oct. 14, 2003) Guess What?: Dawn Robinson got married! That's right, the ex En Vogue/Lucy Pearl member wed a singer named Andre Allen. Dawn is also working an independent album. In an interview with the Beck/Smith Syndicate, Dawn claims she learned "a really hard lesson" from her years with groups. "As far as financially, En Vogue benefited everyone around us, but not us. Our producers who wrote the songs made money. Our managers and attorneys made money, but not us. Many, many millions were made, but our royalties came few and far between," she said. En Vogue, comprised of Dawn, Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones and Terry Ellis, was one the preeminent girl group in the 90s, alongside SWV, TLC and Xscape. At the top of the charts with such hits as "Hold On," "Free Your Mind" and "Runaway Love," the girls sold millions of CDs worldwide. It's no secret that Destiny's Child thanks groups like En Vogue for paving the way for their success. However, unlike Destiny's Child, which began with four friends, Dawn pointed out, "We were totally put together and that's why we were cut out of everything." She also insists that when she, the youngest member of En Vogue, wanted to urge contract renegotiations, she was ousted from the group. (I can't believe she's still telling this antiquated story, but I digress!) Without Dawn, the group put out two other CDs of original material, with the last being 2000's "Masterpiece Theatre." Dawn also chatted about her experience in Lucy Pearl. "All my experience has taught me that it's best to have as much ownership as possible of my art. That's why my husband and I have started our label Movemakers Entertainment." Dawn and Andre will release their label's first disc, "The Dre Allen Project," next month. The two duet on the rock/soul CD, and Dawn sings background vocals on some tunes as well. As far as an En Vogue reunion happening anytime soon? Dawn offered, "I'm not saying that it's never going to happen. I'm not ruling it out by any means. Those girls are my sisters and I love them, but right now that's not the direction in which I'm headed at all." Nonetheless, I'm not sure what Dawn has planned, but I hear that En Vogue has regrouped and may go on without Dawn. Apparently Terry, Cindy, Maxine, and a possible new member have been recording new music with some young Los Angeles-based producers and anticipate making major noise early next year. I'll keep you posted, as details become available. ~~~

En Vogue was and remains one of my all time favorite acts. They lacked without Dawn. Her solo album had some strong ass tracks on it but wasn't as solid as I had expected. She compliments the Lucy Pearl album very well. Oh yeah, I'm gay but I have to say she's got some beautiful tits 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

she sounds so bitter, like so many. Nsync and TLC to name a few. Let them use you, to get you on the map, then you jump ship and use them back because you have the name recognition. Its all dog eat dog. Let it go girl. The group should have stayed together and just dropped the management team. ---------------------------------
Funny and charming as usual

Thanks for this post. I was just listening to my En Vogue cds and wondering what was going on with them. Well..I'd like to see them regroup and come back strong. I love every single album of theirs. I liked Lucy Pearl and a couple other solo projects from Dawn Robinson. I hope it works out.
And just my I LOVE the EV3 album. I know it got a lot of negative reviews and that they weren't as solid as they were with Dawn, but honestly, I didn't notice a difference. A brilliant album none the less.

They truly need to "Give It Up and Turn It Loose."

Dawn needs to get back with the original girls and have a EnVogue reunion. Her solo career hasn't gone anywhere, and the group's last two albums without her have been flops as well. So,why not just bury their pride, start over again, and record a kickass reunion album? I heard a rumor that Clive Davis was interested in signing them, but only if all the original members are in the group. They really shouldn't waste this golden opportunity!
