Anyone watch it yet?

I'm 34 minutes into it, and I'm a little bored. Not 100%, but ... I suppose the one thing that irritates me about her is how fucking contrived some things are with her shows. I get she's being artsy, provocative, whatever. But goddamn it, can we get a fucking song?!

I'm a longtime, hardcore fan of M's, just like I am with Janet, MJ, and Prince. But honestly, I'm surprised she's not had a colonoscopy on stage at this point. She's literally on her knees, fanning her pussy and talking about her pussy and talking about masturbating.

I guess I just don't understand the show. Yet.

Imma watch tonight, should be fun to relive the show 2 years ago.

I cheated and listened to some of the "Music from the theater xperience".... it was different then I remember thats for sure.

On Friday night in New York City, Madonna, joined by Jon Batiste, his band and a small group of fans, gave an intimate cabaret performance in the basement of Marcus Samuelsson’s restaurant Red Rooster, before spilling out into the Harlem streets for a 2 a.m. parade set to “Like a Prayer.”

The midnight cabaret turned New Orleans-style street party rang in Friday’s release of “Madame X,” a documentary concert film of Madonna’s 2019 tour, released by Paramount Plus. (See video excerpts from the performance and parade, below.)

“Obviously, Madame X has been born,” Madonna said to the basement crowd, dressed in a black cocktail dress, lace gloves and long blonde wig. “She was always here. She’s always been by your side, encouraging you, pushing you, inspiring you, I hope.”

Taking the stage in the dimly lit supper club just after 1:40 a.m., Madonna, who laid on top of Batiste’s piano like Marilyn Monroe and climbed up the basements’ columns to grind up and down the wall, sang lounge renditions of “Dark Ballet,” “La Isla Bonita” and the Portuguese “Saudade.”

“Do you feel like something is missing from your life?” she asked the crowd, softly into the microphone while Batiste played beneath her. “So, what’s our job? What’s our destiny? To go out and find it,” she said. “I was talking to Jon on the way here, and we said to each other: Here’s the big question: How bad do you want it?”

The evening was almost impossibly intimate, attended by a crowd that looked to be about 100-200 friends, family and fans, who sank into the club’s plush banquets awaiting her arrival.

During the performance, after falling to her knees in a contemplative adaptation of “Like a Prayer,” Madonna grabbed a nearby megaphone, gestured to the musicians to pick up their instruments, and told the crowd to take to the streets. Obliging blindly, the partygoers climbed up the basement stairs — propelled by the rhythm of Batiste’s band and the sheer thrill of unpredictability — and filed onto 126th street.

Tambourine in hand, Madonna led Batiste and a modest group of the party’s attendees through the early-morning streets of Harlem, joining together as the group sang an anthemic “Like a Prayer” into the night sky.

Traveling a few blocks down the street, the congregation ended outside a nearby church, where Madonna, framed by the ecclesiastical doors behind her, offered an invocation. “The Lord is with all of us,” she said. “Sometimes you just have to say a prayer.

At Red Rooster, where most partygoers returned after Madonna’s streetside sermon ended, the room grooved far into the morning, voguing down the dance floor as the open vodka bar continued to flow. Nearby, joined by queer icons like Aquaria, the Queen of Pop sank into the same plush banquets and watched from afar as the room danced,high and carried away.

Regarding her turning down the Matrix, all I can say is "thank fuck for that". I am a huge fan of her 80s output but that woman can't act.

What did you think after at least?

I thought the show was great and was interesting to see her so candid and free. She should really do this more often with these small stand up comedy bits where she is talking ish to everyone. Really cool. Loved the ongoing theme about gun violence and her tribute to native themes and cultures.

As well, sprinkling some hits here and there was good to keep people unfimiliar with the album (like my boyfriend interested in the show of which he even enjoyed only being a casual fan). The Frozen sequence with her daughter was beautifully captured in its full glory unedited.
Last, the part where she sat down with David Chapelle and just let him talk was awesome!

I was just starting the thread, man. I got about 75 minutes into it, then had to pause. Not went back to it yet. But I do agree with some of the comments here.

I enjoyed the MDNA tour, and yet couldn't care less about Rebel Heart (album, tour, or anything else).

So I finished it.

I saw a review that said, "long on message, short on euphoria."

Sums it up for me.

The bonus for me was seeing Yahzarah as a backup singer. I loved her The Ballad of Purple St. James album about a decade ago. She has a song called "Last to Leave" that I always said, "Prince should be writing songs like this." I told her that when I interviewed her on my radio show back in 2010/11. We had a quick Q&A, and I asked her "Purple Rain or Sign O the Times." I think she chose SOTT, if memory serves.

Anyway, the show was meh, for me. There's this... excessiveness... with her shows and music of late that is just off-putting. I feel like I've lost touch with her as an artist. I've not given up on her, but I'm further back in the audience now.

Compare the performance of "Erotica" from The Girlie Show to her performance of "Holy Water" from Rebel Heart Tour and you'll see what I mean. Maybe "subtlety" isn't the right word... "less obvious" maybe?

Finished watching it this morning. Doesn't quite capture the magic of seeing her in a tiny venue but comes close. Had a few goose-bump moments. "Come Alive" and "Extreme Occident" were both highlights when I saw the show in London, enjoyed them both on the film too. Definitely feel the show gets better from 'Batuka' onwards. Less fast cuts/edits. She seemed a bit softer as the show went on, I find the abrasiveness of the first section a bit grating. If you didn't like Madame X, you won't like this show.

I liked how it was more a story / play than just running through a collection of songs with no real themes to say the least. However her shows have been different than the next and entertaining at least

I get what you're saying.

Her performance of "Erotica" was rather tame, really. Even then. But dancing on a pole, shaped like a cross, with dancers dressed as nuns-meet-can-can-girls while singing "Vogue" and "Holy Water" is beyond not subtle. It seems like shocking value for the sake of it.

What's the expression there? What's the goal? What is it saying? Is she saying Yeezus or Jesus???

I'm just waiting for her to get a pap smear or colonoscopy on stage. There's not much left.
