The baseline is actually influenced by Chic's "Good Times."

It might be influenced by that, the same could be said for Kurtis' song. But Another One Bites The Dust bass sounds identical to Christmas Rappin' like Rappers Delight sounds identical to Good Times. although it was replayed by the Sugarhill Records house band. Christmas Rappin' was later sampled on the 1990s song Too Close by Next.

That'd be something in itself but "Another One Bites the Dust" came out way before Blow's "Christmas Rap. However though, Queen's hit and Chic's "Good Times" were out around the same time, with the latter first debuting and becoming an instant hit.

No it did not. Christmas Rappin came out in 1979 and Another One Bites the dust came out in 1980.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Not true.

"Good Times" - June 1979 (recorded 1978) Hit #1 August 1979

"Christmas Rap" - 1979 (Christmas)

"Another One Bites The Dust" - 1980 (charted October that year)

It's clearly noted in history that bassist John Deacon was fully inspired by "Good Times" to write "Another One Bites The Dust," ergo the similarities. Bernard Edwards later noted that Deacon had hung out w/ Chic in the studio before that, too and was easily moved by their music.

Oddly, "Good Times" was inspired by Kool & The Gang's "Hollywood Swinging."

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Even better, AOBTD is heavily influenced by Good Times by CHIC, so still blackish.

How about a Rock Group Band QUEEN's 1980 Hit Single 'Another One Bites The Dust'?! Anyone or Anybody?

This kinda sounds like Christmas Rappin' by Kurtis Blow which came out in 1979.

This is no back and forth thing here. AOBTD is heavily inspired by Chic's "Good Times." It's been noted. You can research that for yourself too. Also, "Christmas Rappin" is influenced by "Good Times". Chic's song was greatly responsible in helping to usher into the mainstream a new genre at the time called Rap.

This is indeed a good thread and you all have named some good funky songs by Whyte artists and groups. However, to me, the funkiest song performed by a whyte person to me is Peter Brown's Do you wanna get funky with me! Not the funkiest song of all times-there are tons of grooves that surpasses this one! Nevertheless, by a whyte artist, this is by far the funkiest song I heard! It is funky scarey too!

You know that Play That Funky Music is a ripoff of Slippery When Wet by The Commodores?

A lot of us back then thought it was the Commodores with Lionel's classic Southern Funk drawl. Then we found out it was some band named Wild Cherry. lol We still loved the song but were extremely disappointed it wasn't the Commodores. Wild Cherry also covered the Commodores I Feel Sanctified on that same album.

You beat me to it because I was just about to say that when I read the previous comment.

Agree. Average White Band have quite a few funky numbers that would check Tom Tom Club. We won't even start with KC and The Sunshine Band

You beat me to it again with both of those. That's alright though, I'm gonna take it back even further with Sugarloaf's "Green Eyed Lady".
