She looks nothing like Whitney, maybe if she's a very good actress, she can pull it off.

There's like 50 movies about Whitney already. Why not somebody else like Mahalia Jackson, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, or The Staple Singers? You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I agree.Whtiney was great, but her story has already been told numerous times.I'd rather see a Donna Summer biopic,or a Chaka Khan biopic.
and what's up with that Aretha biopic? I guess the release date has been delayed?

I remember Whitney being on Gimmie A Break playing the oldest daughter friend You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. The two documentaries that were done on her were awful. Especially the one sanctioned by her estate. I wish people would stop calling them biopics. They were documentaries. This is different. Clive claims this one is going focus on her career/music more. Of course there's no way of ignoring her personal issues and loser Bobby Brown but there was way more to her than that. I'd still argue no female artist has matched her at the height of her Bodyguard popularity. I'd also argue she was like MJ and Prince; when she walked into a room everyone took notice, everyone stood up. [Edited 12/16/20 21:29pm] Paisley Park is in your heart

She resembles Whitney more than Sidney Poitier & Chadwick Boseman do to Thurgood Marshall. I never understood the idea that an actor has to be a lookalike anyway. Nobody in The Jacksons: An American Dream movie looked like them. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Actually, I would LOVE to see it. But only if they show the crack years. I wish they would let VH1 make the movie though. Remember the Michael Jackson movie they did and during the concert scenes, they played generic music for a few seconds, instead of his own music, before going on to the next scene? I would love to see a movie on her life. I just can't stand to sit through that horrible music. I'd have to turn the sound down during concert scenes. Andy is a four letter word.

I remember that. I think Katie was talking about quitting school to open a boutique or something like that. When she told Nell, she was standing there with two or three friends and Nell got furious and Shitney said something to defend her. Then Nell said something like..... "OK, that's IT. No more black friends for you!" .... The first time I saw it was when it originally aired and Shitney wasn't famous yet. Years later, when I saw it in reruns, I said.... "What black friends? I don't see any.". Andy is a four letter word.

True that they don't have to be a lookalike, but it does help to make it more real and believable if someone resembles the person they're portraying. I actually thought that La La did a good job, and another actress that I saw when they did a documentary of Whitney's story, who looked liked Whitney and had her voice and mannerisms down to a T. I thought both women were believable as Whitney.

Angela Bassett doesn't look like Tina Turner, Lou Diamond Phillips doesn't look like Richie Valens, J. Lo doesn't look like Selena, and so on. I hear that Nelly is supposed to play Chuck Berry in a movie. That might be a stretch, not because they don't look alike in the face, but because Nelly is a big buff dude and Chuck was skinny. Why not hire an already established Whitney tribute performer like Belinda Davids? [Edited 12/17/20 16:57pm] "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

True, but I think that both Angela Bassett and Lou Diamond Phillips are very good actors, and J Lo looked a little like Selena to me, and she did do a good job as well. Now the Nelly one as Chuck Berry, I have to see to believe, because I just can't picture that one at all.

I think she would have gotten the part but she told them she could only be on the show part-time and they said no deal. Paisley Park is in your heart
