Rihanna and Usher are the only artists from their generations in the top 20 (#10 and #14 respectively). Drake is the higest charting rapper at #21. [Edited 7/31/20 12:10pm]

Janet Jackson ahead of MJ?

I'm shocked by that too. IDK exactly why they have her over MJ. I figured Mariah would be the top black artist tho. I'm surprised and not surprised at Beyonce being so low. She hasn't had a consistent run of big singles since 2008, but her PR team brands her as the "best entertainer in the history of the entire world" lol. I know she focuses on albums now, but it's just crazy how they brand her as the biggest star ever when her name isn't big enough to get her big singles, despite them being good music.

That's wrong I guess. Where is Dylan and Shakira.

This is based entirely on chart numbers. It isn't Billboard's opinion.
Just wanted to make that clear! [Edited 7/31/20 17:08pm] A certain kind of mellow.

I basically just copied and pasted the list from Bilboard's website. I know it's based on the Hot 100 only. But MJ has 3 moer #1s and 3 more top tens than her so IDK why she's above him. I thought she'd be right below

More than 50 years since The Beatles broke up and still haven't been surpassed

I guess high chart peaks aren't the only factor. The total number of weeks a song stays in the Hot 100, even if it's lower in the charts comes into play too. She may have just had more songs to stick around longer. The can't be too far apart from one another.
Drake just recently surpassed Madonna as the act with the most top 10's on the Billboard Hot 100. Although it would seem a lot of his "hits" are songs that didn't hang around the charts for long. The way charts are calculated now are so different to back in the day. Album tracks can make it onto the charts now, making it seem newer acts have lots of "hits" when really, it may just be that they're new album got streamed a lot on first week, making random songs eligible to chart on Hot 100.
Let's just imagine if that were the policy when Thriller, Purple Rain, Like A Virgin etc were released.....those artists would have so many more "hits". In the case of Madonna, Into The Groove probably would've been a number one hit. Funny, it's one of Madonna's most well known songs that gets TONS of recurrent play these days, yet it didn't chart at all because it technically wasn't a single.

Dylan had 3 top 10 singles...what makes you think he should be on this list?

Yeah. And even though Billboard looks at it seperately, it really isn't, so if you add the Jackson 5 and the Jacksons to Michael's stats, he is above her. So, whatever.
LOL @ fucking Bieber at #93. [Edited 8/2/20 11:22am]

So would you include N Sync with Justin Timberlake or Destin's Child with Beyonce? Just asking cuz Billboard doesn't, but in our case it onl seems fair for it to count for everone who went solo from ebing in a group.

Janet is higher cause her songs stayed on charts longer than a lot of michaels late 80 singles. For example, together again stuck around on the billboard hot 100 for almost a year though maybe that was more of a 90s thing
Also I know it says Rihanna beat mj with 14 number one singles, but if you count his j5 output he has 18 of them [Edited 8/2/20 18:50pm]

yeah, that is shocking."Into The Groove" would have easily went to Number One.That track was HUGE! But in 1985,she had so many other singles so Warners had to hold back,or else her singles would have been competing with each other, lol. There was "Material Girl", "Angel","Dress You Up","Crazy For You"....it was a really good year for her.

Yes. That would be fair and I would. Especially since they were also the lead singers of their groups. Why should only be half of ones career be counted, just because one was part of a group when they started out?

Actually 19. 13 solo, 4 Jackson 5, 1 with Paul McCartney and 1 with USA for Africa. [Edited 8/2/20 23:09pm]

Most people are shocked at such, but let's not forget as to how consistent Janet was back then. Also, she would successfully have 5 to 7 singles to come off a single album, so if we were to measure that from albums Control to Velvet Rope, as well as the time frame and era all was in, then I can get as to how and why in this case, Jan would rank over big bro Mike.

Furthermore, why do some MJ fans forever try and start a riff, or to make a some sort of big deal whenever Janet achieves something probably Michael has never?? I don't get it! For me, any and all achievements made, whether they're liked by the public or not, forever upholds the entire Jackson name and sustains their family music legacy.

I also feel some are never happy for Janet and it’s unfair. She’s as important as any other Jackson in their legacy

No one really surprising on this list but I thought Lionel Richie would be higher, maybe closer to Hall and Oates. Seemed like he was all over the charts in the early 80s. Paisley Park is in your heart
