But why would you choose to live a lifestyle that would actively increase your chances of needing increased support from the NHS tenfold, thus leaving less resource to treat the unfortunate individuals who need support through no fault of their own? Surely, that's selfish behaviour? ...
There are many reasons why someone could be overweight/underweight - it may not be as simple as someone 'choosing' to have weight issues.
The vast majority of people in the UK will need support from the NHS at some point whatever size they are. If you want to start witholding NHS care to certain individuals because of their lifestyle no-one would ever get treatment.
A woman who chooses to get pregnant will inevitably need support from the NHS. Are you saying they should they be denied access to maternity care?
Are you saying some black mothers should not be offered maternal care due to her offspring having a higher than average chance of bothering the NHS at some point in the future with Sickle cell disease?
Or how about smokers/drinkers/meat eaters?
Or someone choosing to live next to a busy road?
Or someone who likes salty snacks?
Or someone who chooses to drive/cycle/walk/run/play/excercise/not exercise (all these activities - and pretty much every other activity you can think of - can result in short term and long term injuries that will require NHS support.
I prefer to let people live their own lives without judgement, and support them should they ever need me to offer it.
Its certainly not a case of denying care, but I think some people can up their levels of self-responsibility quite a bit, particularly, as you say, at a time when government is giving our NHS a sustained kicking ... we all need to do our bit if we can.
... and I think that should include a careful look at how we promote the idea of being heavily over weight as the new norm or something to be celebrated. I'm not saying the intentions aren't noble if we're talking about helping someone's self esteem or confidence, but I'd put a higher value on their physical well-being every time.

Putting aside that sexiness is obviously in the eye of the beholder, this is like pointing out that Arnold Scharwzenegger and Chris Farley probably had upper arms that were about the same size.
It's just that one of those men got them by working out like a maniac, and the other had them by virtue of being a slovenly pig. Albeit, a hilarious slovenly pig, that's granted. |

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton |

People need to stop deflecting from the stupidity of things people do these days.
If Lizzo wasn't a known name and just some random civilian BBW, you'd call her traipsing about what it was: stupid. Her weight has nothing to do with the criticism she's rightfully received for her stupidity and you know it. |

yes there would...its already happened...two thin white girls shook their naked titties in the crowd for a couple seconds, at a 2019 pro baseball World Series game and were banned from all future games, and ridiculed all over the media...it has nothing to do with weight or anything else besides common decency and appropriate public behavior.. I've never heard of this woman before reading this thread but it's clear to me that her weight is central to the criticism she has recieved.
I'm amazed you can't see it. |

The "think of the children" "it's a family atmosphere" rallying cries, imo, are entirely dismissing that just about every nba halftime show is a scantily clad strip tease. Family friendly, tho, I guess. Yeah yeah yeah, they are athletic. No argument with that. But come on, cheerleaders during nba halftime shows are not what we would call properly clothed for any other "family friendly" event. |

It does remind of Chris Rock and his comments on Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl
"Janet lost her damn mind, whipping out her titty on a Sunday afternoon. On a Sunday afternoon! What the f*ck is wrong with this girl? This ain't deja vu, this ain't Magic City motherf*cker, its the Super Bowl. A titty on a Sunday afternoon. People coming home from church, turn on the TV, "Oh Lord!".
And a 40 year old titty at that. You can't just whip out a 40 year old titty, that's yo' man's titty. 40 year old titty, yo' man's titty ... 20 year old titty, community titty! The titty couldn't even believe it was outisde. It was like "Oh sh*t, what the f*cks going on? Close the door!"" |

OMG this is hilarious! I remember when Chris said this and I remember thinking just how right he was and still is. So many people blame JT, but this would never have happened without Janet's approval. Chris is so damn funny! |

Thank you. And in a normally hetero-sexist atmosphere, Lizzo would be welcomed if she fit their idea of a cheerleader body type.

I didn't see anyone "trashing an associate act" just posting their comments. Why is it in today's world that whenever people voice or make a comment about anything that someone doesn't agree with, they are accused of one thing or another? Can't people just simply state an opinion these days, without being accused of hating, trashing, etc? And so what if Prince said before he died that he would produce her album, what does that have to do with people commenting on her behavior at a basketball game? |

Now post the cheerleaders with their naked asses exposed during a game.
What?
No footage of that?
Why?
Because its illegal and they would get ejected. There are indecent exposure laws and showing your naked ass at a game would get you ejected and BANNED from an arena.
No natter how big of a fan you are of Lizzo, she doesn't get a special pass just because you relate to her in some way.
Come to think of it, by not getting kicked out, she DID get a special pass.
If some random dude did this, the same people complaining about Lizzo getting shyt for it would be on here saying "lock him up". Lizzo doesn't get her own set of rules.
Save that act for the nightclubs where its cool. |
