. A lot of doctor's now will only prescribe a small amount of pills. My doctor only gave me a few days worth, and that's it. . But I agree, if some doctor is prescribing 3-months supply of this stuff, then time to find another doctor!!

RIP Chris Cornell, losing a real musician is always a tragedy I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

Absolutely.
On the other had, it's been reported that Chris got the anxiety pill from his bodyguard, which might tell us that he was trying to control a possible urge from taking more than one by having someone else responsible for them, and then his wife stated that upon hearing him slur his speech on the phone, he told her he might have taken an extra anxiet pill or two. How come, if he did not have them in his possession?

Chris Cornell's wife posted an open letter today. To My Sweet Christopher, You were the best father, husband and son-in-law. Your patience, empathy and love always showed through. You had always said I saved you, that you wouldn’t be alive if it were not for me. My heart gleamed to see you happy, living and motivated. Excited for life. Doing everything you could to give back. We had the time of our lives in the last decade and I’m sorry, my sweet love, that I did not see what happened to you that night. I’m sorry you were alone, and I know that was not you, my sweet Christopher. Your children know that too, so you can rest in peace. I’m broken, but I will stand up for you and I will take care of our beautiful babies. I will think of you every minute of every day and I will fight for you. You were right when you said we are soulmates. It has been said that paths that have crossed will cross again, and I know that you will come find me, and I will be here waiting. I love you more than anyone has ever loved anyone in the history of loving and more than anyone ever will. Always and forever, Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Beautiful and heartbreaking. I'm dreading those toxicology reports...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
TMZ is reporting that he had fresh track marks on his arm. The toxicology report should shed a lot more light on all this. This is pure speculation on my part but I'm guessing maybe he had relapsed and used drugs again and maybe the shame & guilt & depression he felt regarding it coupled with the Ativan pushed him over the edge during a very dark moment. If that ends up being the case (and again, this is just my speculation), it would help explain how someone who clearly loved his family and had plans for the future and seemed to be doing great would do something like this.

. Yea, I just saw the TMZ headline. Leave it those guys to stir-up controversy. . It's such a sad and tragic ending to such a gifted musician. I also read today that the band members said Chris was acting "high" or "off", and they suspected something. . It's just a shame that someone didn't get to him sooner.

I'm a die-hard Seattlite, and first saw Soundgarden in 87 at Bumbershoot. They weren't even the band I was in line to see; I think they were opening for the The Young Fresh Fellows. It was my first mosh pit! Hearing "Hunted Down" and a blistering cover of the Beatles' "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For You and Me and My Monkey", while getting toussled around by sweaty bodies, is a memory tattoed on my brain. A lot of people romanticize slam dancing, or moshing, or whatever each generation calls it, but the reality is you end up covered in some other dude's sweat. > I loved 'Screaming Life', but didn't follow Soundgarden much after that. I didn't dig the sludge metal swing. To be honest, I didn't get it at all. All those hooks weren't there; the aesthetic leaned towards, I don't know...biker metal? Bikers cruising under the speed limit? I didn't get it. > When the grunge thing blew up, I didn't get it either. All these bands were getting huge, and though I was more on the Posies or Robert Cray end of the local spectrum, it seemed the popular sound owed everything to Soundgarden or Alice and Chains. It's a little weird, the day after Chris Cornell's passing, and I'm getting a greater appreciation for how great a hand he played in the promotion when I pick up The Singles Deluxe 25th Anniversary: he has his paw prints all over the unreleased cuts. > Anyways, back to that time: Superunknown answered all the questions to 'when, Soundgarden?'. > I've always liked that Chris Cornell transcended Seattle. I mean, there's a weird insecurity about my town, like 'why would you ever move?' Or, you need to show some sort of faith to your home town. But Chris Cornell was bigger than that: went on to become part of a supergroiup; had a restaurant across from the Eiffel Tower, had a solo career that included an album with Timberlake.* From that whole scene that I talked about, Chris Cornell seemed like the well-adjust one who was going to take things as far as he could. > What I love most about Chris Cornell is that he was a great ambassador for music. All he needed was his guitar, his voice, and a song; anybody's song. There was no better Busker. He had the balls to cover Billie Jean and turn it into a torch song; he had the heart to sing 'I Will Always Love You' in that moment when we're still healing. There's other moments too; if you get on youtube you will find him mashing up 'One' with U2's chords and Metallica's Lyrics; you'll find him singing with Yousef. > That's all I have. If you want to pay tribute, get on Youtube and ride the wave of amazing music he could muster with just him and his guitar. >

I'm watching TMZ, too.
I figured it might be drug related, even if it was a relapse.
Terrible tragedy. | |

i am a seattleite too, i never liked the whole grunge movement but could recognize some redeeming qualities, cobain was a great writer and cornell was a great voice. Seattle has changed, it isn't what it was 25 years ago, I't's wearing me out, i'd like to leave soon if i could. Those guys like Cornell, i don't really know what to make of it, i said many times, i don't feel bad for guys like Prince, or michael, I feel bad for the poor schmuck who has to work at a press for 30 years day after day. These other guys live the lives people dream of, maybe it's a case of too much freedom, too much time on their hands I don't know. It's a bit of a mystery to me. I do know that the grungers that I was around were some nasty fuckers, they all were the same too, they looked down at me because I didn't want nothing to do with no drugs. I doubt if any of them are even doing music anymore and I do know that if they didn't od, they had to clean up enough to function in the real world because they were useless as they were.

This is what I think might have happened. He did not look well in that footage from the last show, and he always looked very composed, sharp eyed and focused. He was probably riddled with feelings of guilt. etc...

According to TMZ (who else), Chris Cornell's wife confronted him on that phone call about him having possibly relapsed into drug use...

Oh, dear. I was hoping not to hear that. If Chris was using again, it put him in a downward spiral, then addition to an extra dose of Ativan. Such a terrible tragedy.

i wonder why they decided to bury him down there, he was from seattle, all his friends and family are here. Maybe they didn't want to deal with the fuss, I imagine to hollywood another death is no big deal.

i wondered about that too. Perhahs it's closer to home?

his hometown is seattle, I thought he lived here but maybe he did live down there. One of my customers is a dentist and told me he had a temp technician who called in late that morning because her friend had died the night before, the dentist said he asked if it was Cornell and it turns out it was. 52 years of friends and family would most likely be here. I don't know. a lot of times, even when people don't like their hometowns, that's where there bodies get sent.

Vicky says her last conversation with Chris came about 30 minutes before his body was found hanging in a Detroit hotel room. Vicky says just before Chris called her, the lights in their family home — which Chris could control remotely from his phone — began flickering on and off. When he called she asked him if he had just manipulated the lights and he said no — that he did it an hour before. Vicky immediately became suspicious because Chris was onstage an hour before. Things got more ominous as he began slurring, and every minute the slurring got worse. He was complaining about the show and his crew, saying, “They f***ed up again. They had 3 days to fix my in-ears and I was getting static. I couldn’t hear.” He then started to complain, “I blew my voice. I blew my voice.” He kept repeating it. And then he changed the subject to something that made no sense. Vicky says she knew something was seriously wrong and said to Chris, “I need to know what you took tonight. You don’t sound right, sweetheart.” He replied, “I was really angry and I just took 2 Ativan. I’m really pissed and I had to calm myself down.” Vicky replied, “I need to know what you took. It doesn’t sound like 2 Ativan. It sounds like you took something else. You need to tell me now what you took. I forgive you.” Vicky says at that point Chris’ entire demeanor changed. He got aggressive — not toward her — but his tone was “cocky and aggressive.” She says she immediately had a flashback to 14 years before, when Chris was abusing Oxycontin … when it got so bad at one point he nearly died. Chris then changed the subject and made no sense at all. Vicky panicked, hung up and called Chris’ bodyguard, begging him to race over to his room and get inside, and she said if he had to knock the door down then so be it. She had never had someone check on him in 14 years, but she was afraid he would die. She says the bodyguard knocked down the front door but couldn’t knock down the second, so she used a second phone to call the hotel and plead with them to open the interior door. She was screaming, “He’s having a heart attack.” Vicky was still on the phone with the bodyguard when he was able to knock down the second door and saw Chris’ body hanging from an exercise band. Vicky says it took around 30 minutes from the time she hung up with Chris to the time the bodyguard found Chris. As we reported, sources connected with the investigation tell us EMTs and cops saw fresh track marks on Chris’ arm. Vicky says she never knew Chris to use needles and says just before he left for Detroit that afternoon, he was walking

Like I said on another thread, regarding TMZ: Chris Cornell was a recovering addict but he was never known to have used needles. His wife says there were no marks. If it turns out in the toxicology report /autopsy that he had indeed injected drugs, I'm gonna start taking these TMZ news seriously...
