It is LITERALLY one of the side effects of taking the drug, as us slurred speech. As I understand it, he told his wife over the phone that he took more than usual when she noticed his speech was slurred. https://www.drugs.com/ativan.html

Ativan side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Ativan: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have:

  • severe drowsiness;

  • thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;

  • unusual changes in mood or behavior;

  • confusion, aggression, hallucinations;

  • worsened sleep problems;

  • sudden restless feeling or excitement;

  • muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, trouble swallowing;

  • vision changes; or

  • upper stomach pain, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).

Common Ativan side effects may include:

  • dizziness, drowsiness;

  • weakness;

  • slurred speech, lack of balance or coordination;

  • memory problems; or

  • feeling unsteady.

.

If he took more than what was prescribed (like they are saying now), then he obviously had some extreme side-effects and suicidal thoughts. Such a sad loss.

ya, i know it pisses off feminists, everything pisses off feminists, i'm just being honest, it was the first thing that came to my mind. Now the woman is playing cover my ass by saying some drugs did it to him. No one wants to be a yoko ono or even a priscilla presley, not to mention courtney love. I said it and I meant it, i don't know what's wrong with some of these men, some kind of mommy issue or something. I don't like seeing women fall for guy like that either which probably happens even MORE if I'm being honest. I just don't like seeing anyone played with and taken advantage of, that's just me.

.

It sounds like you are placing the blame on his Wife? That's really not fair. We don't really know what was going on. His wife was concerned for him so she asked security to check on him. Maybe he was having a bad day, who knows! He was struggling with depression. Taking the larger dose of meds is what drove him to suicide. It's all very sad and tragic and his family is in an incredible amount of pain right now, so I don't think we should be pointing fingers at his wife. She just lost her husband. Sorry, If I took what you said the wrong way, but just saying.

prince was taking an anti anxiety med too wasnt' he? I always thought that was kind of odd because I honestly don't think they are necessary for shit, I have anxieties too I just avoid a lot of things, mainly people (women too) but it isn't anything i'd ever take a pill for. so it surprised me that prince was taking anything like that.

I'm very surprised to see you talking this way. You always seem to take a empathetic approach to these sensitive subjects, until now.

Try to educate yourself on the subject of Anxiety. Lots of people need anti-anxiety medication to help them cope with stress or a traumatic event.

I agree. It's an unreasonable and inconsiderate thing to say about a situation that no one knows the dynamics or details of at all. My Prince GIF was in response to the former two posters playfully going at each other. It went dark after that.

haha you hollywood motherfuckers, never met drama you didn't like didya. anyway, first reports i heard was he had an argument, now she's in save ass mode trying to blame drugs, either way a stable person wouldn't do that after an arguement I agree. arturro gatti, beloved boxer hung himself after an arguement with his wife, his fans are still hateful towards her and actually believe he was murdered inspite of no evidence towards that conclusion.

i know all about it, didn't i say i hate being around people? I don't really like people much and i don't feel comfortable around them because i don't trust them, I don't need a pill for it though. And EVEN if he committed suicide after he had a discussion with his wife, she wouldnt be the responsible for it. It would be only one of the factors. The basic cause is still depression.

While I agree that today there is a very strong industry of prescriptions and diagnosis (specially in the US), there are some people that need them. Its not because you dont need that others dont need. Maybe your anxiety isnt that high

did you read what i said? my "anxiety" gets pretty high, i don't really like being around people but it's not something that i need a pill for. ptsd, child abuse, whatever, i've got plenty of experience with trauma i don't need a pill for it.

Social anxiety sucks, but does it paralyze you? Because in some cases, the panic attacks are so intense that a person gets paralyzed.

Anyway, I dont need pills too, because they had no effect on me. But some people get very well with them.

i've had panic attacks, first ones i had, i was discussing them with a friend, he said "that's a panic attack" at that time my respones was "i refuse to believe i'm suffering from some bitches shit". I know now the error of my ways, i was a knucklehead then. anyway, couple years later, under a lot of stress, i had a horrible one where one side of my body went numb, everything was hyperfocussed, just like when I got into fights, like an adrenaline surge but I couldn't feel any particular adrenaline rush. I thought i was having a stroke, i went to the er and they gave me something and I calmed right down. I adjusted my life the very next day, there was a girl i was in love with and she was playing all kinds of games, i overnight just stopped going by the place in the college where I'd see her. I didn't need a pill, if you're strong, really strong you can adjust to things, and hell, i had many of them after that and i just endured them. These days not so much because, as I said, i don't like people very much, they are too aggressive and too obnoxious and if you call them out on it, they'll say you're the bad guy. so I don't do drama, people want drama, then they lose me and they really do lose me, usually they do everything they can to get me back but im old now.

anyway, we dont always know what we're feeling. when i had the panic attack, i was under a lot of stress yes, but being a man, i barrelled through it all, it was only when a girl at the college came up to me, asked me where a room was that i broke, such a small thing yes, but I broke. People are not meant to live like this, they don't need pills people need to respect other people and quit being so damned pushy all the time. and sans that, you still don't need pills to deal with it. Do what i did, kick those people out of your life, i've done it and it's not so hard but when you have guys who can't live without the woman that's ruining their life(as chris probably was, seen it a zillion times) they just drive themselves batshit crazy trying to give them something that you cannot give them. People are unreasonable, really impossible to satisfy, that is why I always spoke out when prince was being attacked here, because 1. I knew that it's basic human nature and it's vile and 2. i knew he'd be gone someday, just didn't think it would be this soon and i wanted to celebrate while he was here.

when did i say i didn't like him? I said i wasn't a fan, doesn't mean i didn't like him, i recognize his talent, i'm from seattle and i knew a guy who met him so it's interesting somewhat. It's sad either way, from what i'm hearing, he was genuinely a nice guy, it's a waste of talent.

don't worry about me, i wasn't talking to you. guy asked a question i answered, now you want to just come with tired insult about my mental health. internet is full of those just because someone can't handle or don't like what someone said. What would really help is if we changed society for the better, less nastiness, less boorishness and people wouldn't feel the need to take a pill or drink or drug. No one wants to look at that because they're too brainwashed. Of course a person is going to be miserable trying to live this lifestyle we do here, of course they are going to be stressed, it's a sick way of living. That's why I get rid of people who feel they have to be demanding, have to be manipulative and have to have their way come hell or high water, even if they are family. I'll say one more thing and I'm done. I've known people from other generations and they weren't like this, they weren't entitled, they weren't expecting for everything to be perfect and they did not try to play with anyone's head. today, that's all anyone tries to do, things are just too complicated so you take a pill "I think I know a better way" to quote the great man himself.

When you are on an open forum, you are talking to all of us. You have blamed it on the wife, and in the process of blaming her, you also insulted women. You seem to think that because you are 'strong' enough and don't take meds, that everyone else should be strong enough not to take meds. You said his wife helped cause his retardation.

Again, glad you don't have to take anything and can handle things yourself, some people like Prince, and Chris and many others who suffer from depression and anxiety need medicine to help them. There is no shame in that.

i really don't think you're getting my point, I am sure there are many situations when medication is needed and necessary. What we do in this country goes way past that. Like one of the guys in the docu "Prescription Thugs" said "we need to toughen up" people are babies today, i am sick of dealing with drug addicts and it's just about everyone you run into. It wouldn't matter if it didn't seem to screw up how they think and rationalize what they do but it does. People on drugs think fucked up. I've been watching docus on youtube about various drugs, it's pretty interesting. One of the last ones I saw was a couple hours ago, it was a young woman who got hooked on everything, just kept getting involved with losers, not able to stay sober because it was "boring" (are you fucking kidding me?) and it was about a 15 minute profile of someone who's got issues way beyond some back pain, way beyond just the addiction itself, it's a problem with her character. As for me, I'm wondering why are certain factions in this country putting heat on immigrants, what is going to happen if we kick out every immigrant, this country would fall apart. Americans are pretty useless for real work and they are getting even moreso. These kids today can't even walk around without their faces glued to their phones, it's like no one wants to be responsible for themselves.

There is no shame in suffering from depression and anxiety and there is no shame in taking medications for it. This my friends is why people try to hide their depression, because of the stigma that is attached to it. sad

i really don't think you're getting my point, I am sure there are many situations when medication is needed and necessary. What we do in this country goes way past that. Now Pete, Don't try to back pedal on what you've said. Please see below. Now if he was sober & clean the past few years, and when he talked to his wife after the show, and was slurring his words, if I was the wife, I'd be concerned and a little pissed too, especially if she thought he was falling back into his old habits. The things you've said on this thread are inexcusable. Yeah, I'm glad you can deal with your anxiety and depression on your own without the use of meds. There are a lot of people who can't. It's called mental illiness and people like you, are why there is such a stigma involved in this disease, and some don't seek the help that they need. mad

i figured a woman and an arguement would be behind it. I don't know why men can't just stay away from someone who wants to play with your head. always been easy for me.

ya, i know it pisses off feminists, everything pisses off feminists, i'm just being honest, it was the first thing that came to my mind. I just don't like seeing anyone played with and taken advantage of, that's just me.

i've had panic attacks, first ones i had, i was discussing them with a friend, he said "that's a panic attack" at that time my respones was "i refuse to believe i'm suffering from some bitches shit". (...)

- Ok, you did the right thing. You went to the cause of anxiety. In my case, I didnt. I had several panic attacks and I didnt know what to do. Everytime I had one, I used to run home and I laid on the bed and slept. Then, I woke up well. And the therapist had a spontaneous abortion and couldnt help me. I did my first heart exam after 3 months. So, I put in my mind that I didnt trust my body, but I could make it stop when I was at home, but not outside (how could I sleep in a restaurant and wake up well, for example?). So I tried medicine against my so called symptoms. If it worked, I would still be taking them.
That shows people are different. So, at the same time I agree with you that lots of people take meds only to avoid discomfort, there are situations where they are led to it.

haha you hollywood motherfuckers, never met drama you didn't like didya. anyway, first reports i heard was he had an argument, now she's in save ass mode trying to blame drugs, either way a stable person wouldn't do that after an arguement I agree. arturro gatti, beloved boxer hung himself after an arguement with his wife, his fans are still hateful towards her and actually believe he was murdered inspite of no evidence towards that conclusion.

.

Huh? What are you talking about? What does Arturro Gatti have to do with Chris Cornell?

.

Chris was taking Ativan (anti-anxiety drug), which can cause suicidal thoughts. rolleyes
