DiminutiveRocker said: Prince’s music is the soundtrack to the soulful and beautiful universe he created, and we have all been privileged to be part of that amazing world. I performed his song "Nothing Compares 2 U" for the first time a couple months ago. It has a timeless relevance for me and practically everyone I know. Sadly, now his own lyrics in this song could not be more relevant than at this moment, and I sing them now in reverence as I pay tribute to this unequaled artist who has given all of our lives so much inspiration and made the world so much more interesting. We will miss you Prince!!! And we will miss you, Chris. RIP

Chris Cornell's Wife Issues Statement, Blames Anxiety Medicine for Suicide"When we spoke after the show, I noticed he was slurring his words," Vicky Cornell says. "He was different" Chris Cornell's wife Vicky issued a statement speculating whether his suicide was the result of too much anxiety medication.
Vicky Cornell, the wife of Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell, issued a statement Friday morning where she remembered her late husband, who died Thursday morning at the age of 52, and speculated whether his suicide was the result of taking too much of his anxiety medication. Related
"Chris's death is a loss that escapes words and has created an emptiness in my heart that will never be filled. As everyone who knew him commented, Chris was a devoted father and husband. He was my best friend," Vicky wrote. "His world revolved around his family first and, of course, his music second. He flew home for Mother's Day to spend time with our family. He flew out mid-day Wednesday, the day of the show, after spending time with the children. When we spoke before the show, we discussed plans for a vacation over Memorial Day and other things we wanted to do." However, following Soundgarden's concert Wednesday night, Vicky noticed a change in her husband's demeanor when they talked on the phone after the show. "When we spoke after the show, I noticed he was slurring his words; he was different. When he told me he may have taken an extra Ativan or two, I contacted security and asked that they check on him," she continued. "What happened is inexplicable and I am hopeful that further medical reports will provide additional details. I know that he loved our children and he would not hurt them by intentionally taking his own life." An attorney for the Cornell family, Kirk Pasich, reiterated Vicky's belief that an extra dosage of Ativan, an anxiety medication often employed by recovering addicts, altered Chris Cornell's mental faculties after the Detroit show. Pasich added that the Cornell family is "disturbed at inferences that Chris knowingly and intentionally took his life." "Without the results of toxicology tests, we do not know what was going on with Chris — or if any substances contributed to his demise," Pasich said. "Chris, a recovering addict, had a prescription for Ativan and may have taken more Ativan than recommended dosages. The family believes that if Chris took his life, he did not know what he was doing, and that drugs or other substances may have affected his actions." Pasich added that side effects of Ativan include "paranoid or suicidal thoughts, slurred speech and impaired judgment"; Vicky Cornell noted her husband's slurred speech following the Detroit concert in her statement. She added, "The outpouring of love and support from his fans, friends and family means so much more to us than anyone can know. Thank you for that, and for understanding how difficult this is for us." Hours after Cornell's death at a Detroit hotel, a medical examiner's report confirmed that the singer had died by suicide. Chris Cornell, lead singer for Soundgarden, has died at age 52. Watch here. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/chris-cornells-wife-issues-statement-w483179

mostly - but remember within groups of people there are always pieces of garbage. Mostly it's good but I've seen some stuff in forums - and a NY times article that is blowing all that out of proportion and being crude and disrespectful.
I was just at the Soundgarden show in Wisconsin last Sat and he destroyed that set like none other. So surreal right now...

How amazing is it that this medicine he was prescribed to recover from anxiety has a side effect of "suicidal thoughts" and YET it is still on the market, and people do not FREAK the fuck out, and yet if god forbid there is a supply of "bad cheese" on the market there is a recall and law suits and shut downs, what a stupid backwards country we live in RULED by the pharma mentality! . They say that usually the one's who suffer in silence (don't talk about it) are the one's who commit suicide. . You think a person has everything, but depression takes over and that person is not thinking logically, and they are not thinking about reaching out to anyone because they are at the end of their rope and feel hopeless. But, it doesn't have to be that way. . The sad part is that there is help and their IS hope. My heart goes out to this family because they are left to suffer the most.

. Very true! . A lot of people don't understand what clinical depression is. Some people think "Just cheer up, things will get better." Nah, it's not that easy. My Mother (passed in 2014), was diagnosed with Bi-Polar depression. She had a troubled childhood and went through a lot of emotional problems in her life. Sometimes, it is a chemcial imbalance in the brain, other times, it is brought on by physical or emotional trauma. It's very complex to assess, and if anyone feels like they are clinically depressed (feeling down all the time or most of the time), then they should be evaluated by a medical professional. We all have ups and downs in life, but clinical depression is a disease that can be treated.

. This is so incredbily sad. Doctor's usually don't prescribe too many anti-anxiety meds at one time, in order to prevent any overdose from happening. Also, anti-anxiety pills are easy to become addicted to.

I'm still in such shock.Fortunately, I got to see him in Cincinnati in July 2016 and was incredible. His voice so powerful but serene at the same time. What a humble man whom we all felt such a privilege to witness his talent.Chris, along with his other band 'Temple of the Dog'sold out Madison Square Garden last year having only released one album 25 years ago and no tour to support it.I will forever miss him. i figured a woman and an arguement would be behind it. I don't know why men can't just stay away from someone who wants to play with your head. always been easy for me.

- True, but anti-anxiety meds, as far as I know, dont kill (unless they are combined with other drugs). And I am wondering how an extra Ativan pill could have triggered suicidal feelings.

ya, i know it pisses off feminists, everything pisses off feminists, i'm just being honest, it was the first thing that came to my mind. Now the woman is playing cover my ass by saying some drugs did it to him. No one wants to be a yoko ono or even a priscilla presley, not to mention courtney love. I said it and I meant it, i don't know what's wrong with some of these men, some kind of mommy issue or something. I don't like seeing women fall for guy like that either which probably happens even MORE if I'm being honest. I just don't like seeing anyone played with and taken advantage of, that's just me.

when a family member dies people don't think to rational and would blame just about anything. The bottom line is the guy had to be somewhat unstable. I wasn't a fan but he was a phenomenal singer and he sounded like a decent guy. He's from my town and I knew a guy who washed his windows once a couple decades ago. Outside of that, I never had much use for grunge, the drugs, the wallowing in self pity and the plain disrespect most of the musicians had for their predecessors.

prince was taking an anti anxiety med too wasnt' he? I always thought that was kind of odd because I honestly don't think they are necessary for shit, I have anxieties too I just avoid a lot of things, mainly people (women too) but it isn't anything i'd ever take a pill for. so it surprised me that prince was taking anything like that.

. - In some cases, anxiety gets so extreme that people HAVE to take them. I had severe agoraphobia for some years and took them. In my case, it didnt help much. My doctor said it´s because I dont trust pills. But some people do. Today, I dont take them. . But I realize that in today´s world, lots of people really dont need them. Sometimes, they dont have depression or anxiety in a pathological level. They only want to kill the ´bad´ feelings. But some really do. However, I couldnt imagine why Prince took them. Maybe he was too shy and had to have something because he was always exposed? Who knows?

. - Wow. But I wonder if an extra pill was enough if he was ok. He seemed kind of excited about the Detroit concert and his wife said he never seemed like in a suicidal mood. So, I thought it would be very strange if a pill changed things so much if he was OK. On the other hand, people said he wasnt so well during the concert, and that he said something like ´I feel bad for the next city´(people thought he was talking about the audience not being as great as Detroit, but it has a whole new meaning now...). Mysteries...
