I was in high school when Mickey was a hit song in the early '80s. Just read she's 72 yo now. How time flies! I, too, must be getting old.

Isn't that somethin'? She was apparently in her mid-30s for that iconic cheerleader video.

I feel you. We can't go on like this beating ourselves up over time and age and all that. We were so lucky to have experienced Prince in our lifetime. Lets spread that love and not let numbers bring us down.

I think that's the reason people never truly realize her age, being associated with a cheerleader video when she was no where near her teens.

Yep she goes way back. She was one of the choreographers for the TAMI Show in 1964!

Toni choreographed this and is Davy's dance partner. Originally Mike Nesmith (who wasn't really known for dancing) was supposed to do this, but the director later decided on Davy instead at the last minute. Mike did record the song (and practiced the routine with Toni), but his version wasn't released at the time.

Wow, i knew she was getting up there but 72?? Never would have guessed it. I would have said early-mid 60's maybe. I do remember though, that she had been a choreographer before Mickey became popular.

So lately I've been checking up on some of the musical performers, Actors, etc, of my childhood(70's) and teenage years(80's), and boy has it been a trip. At times its been joyful and at other times its been sad. In part because of how that person's life had(has) played out, but mainly because of my own selfish reasons. You know, like looking at your life and remembering all the things that happened(good and bad). Its like you remember a certain period of your life, when a certain TV show or song was popular.

Like when Toni Basil and her song Mickey were really popular. They were early staples of MTV and i have fond memories of that period of my life and also of the people and things that i mentioned(early MTV, Toni Basil, The video and song Mickey).

Its a trip going down that journey and even more so since Prince's death. As far as I'm concerned his death was a game changer.

Anyway, time can be a Mfer.

Hopefully Toni Basil will live(and continue to be healthy) well into the future.

RIP Davy and I love the Monkees

Oh wow I love that video. I am fan of dancing and she was doing little of pop locking too. She put my self to shame and I am twice as young.

I didnt know she was 72 and yeah 72 years younger.

Wow,that's interesting.Nowadays,it would be nearly impossible for a female singer in her mid-30s to get a major hit single. The charts are so youth-oriented these days.

Yes, most people who know of her hit "Mickey" are unaware of her singing career in the mid-60s:

"I'm 28" has been a favorite of mine ever since I heard it on the Girl Group Sounds Lost and Found hat box set.

In the 1970s, Toni was in a dance crew with Fred Berry (who later played Rerun in What's Happening!!) and Shabba Doo, who later appeared in the Breakin' movies.
