I hope Bruno takes the torch

I was thinking whatever Bruno does next may take him to the next level. I wonder if this raises the stakes for him and he really shoots for the top artistically.

It is a torch that would burn anyone who tried to pick it up.......there simply are, and never will be, any replacements for Prince.

I like Bruno, but he has never shown the growth you need to be a Prince, Bowie or MJ.

He's nearly 32. At that age, Prince had already grown from For You to beyond Lovesexy.

Comparing Bruno Marz to Prince to me is like comparing Britney Spears to Kate Bush. Gross.

Art demands that others try to continue to build on it...not replace. Prince didnt replace James, Jimmy, Sly or Richard.

Bruno seems to be about as close to Prince as out there in the mainstream right now. He's not that close, but no one will ever be that close.

Ummm....Prince was a prolific songwriter, composer, arranger, and musician by the time he was 25 years old. Bruno Mars is none of those and he's 32. As of now, there is no one out there even close to Prince.

'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I like Bruno a lot, really, but unlike those 3 and Prince I still can't hear 10 seconds of a song by him and instantly know who it is, I just know who he's doing a homage to this week...

Bruno is talented but at 32 he cannot ever match where Prince was at the same time. He just does not have that "it" factor and that is okay. Prince just had that aura and charisma about himself that kept you interested. Even without any major recent hits he could walk in a room and still be the "star amongst stars. This is no knock on Bruno because legends do not come around everyday. Prince was also a risk taker to the point if fans jumped off the bandwagon he was okay with that. He changed his name, changed his look, changed his band, and his sound and kept moving forward. Would Bruno at 32 do anything like that to lose his core audience ?. The answer is No. I have said all this and not even mentioned the actual music yet so Bruno should stay in his lane because this is a wrap.

Prince did not have a torch he had a Mjolnir. Bruno is cool but he is simply not worthy.

Nope, since his passing i have really started to hear what he was has been saying in his music and he is unmatched. A true anomaly. Musical greatness won't end with Prince but I can't see anyone rising in these times. Bruno is a man of his influences. They are too literal. Not a dig at him.

No apologies here - but there will not be another to pick up the torch. I can't even imagine. There was no one like him - think about it - one that writes, arranges, produces, sings and PLAYS on his albums. Really? Who else does that? I just don't see anyone of that caliber. Guitarists? yes. Singers? yes. Producers? Yes. Writers? yes. But all those things in one? Come on. No one even close. And I haven't even mentioned film, philanthropy, activist and entertainer yet? Peace and Love.

I love Bruno, but Prince was creating truly new things. Bruno can sing nice pop and r&b songs but nothing as amazing as Prince was doing.

Also at Brunos age now, Prince was already a legend and leveling off. A persons artistic/athletic/intellectual/beautiful peak is in a persons mid 20's - early 30's. Bruno has already peaked.

100% agree and you guys are missing what I'm trying to say. TTD touched on in his essay. Its one thing to be influenced by your heroes and predecessors. Its another to be inspired to try go beyond them.

I agree that Bruno is mostly a VERY VERY VERY GOOD nostalgia act. But the talent is undeniably there and I'd rather see these guys try and fail spectaculary than stay in their lanes and collect checks.

32 is a baby to me so age is not a factor. I think he has the base influences to make a kind of music that can be seen to have grown up in the same petrie dish as Prince.

But hell for all we know the "next" Prince could come out of country music or from Japan. What do we know.
