I love the Weekend too, but what you hear in him are his battery of great producers who write and produce his songs. Max Martin and all the other producers doing the same great work on Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and everyone else on the top ten. These behind the scenes producers are the real torch bearers for greats like Prince. Besides, like Bruno, hes also way too old already. [Edited 4/30/16 8:47am] | |

Bruno Mars isn't fit to tie the shoes of Prince. Also the industry is far too organised nowadays to allow a unique talent like Prince to arrive. Prince had the unique opportunity to have creative freedom from the start, not worry about sales and grow into the genius he was meant to be. The industry won't allow that now. You might get one album but after that if you aren't shifting units and earning back your advance - next! Working away from major labels obviously allow you much more room to grow but of course the exposure is far less, even with the online network. | |

You guys remind me my dad when he used to tell me that Prince was not worthy to even sing James Brown songs. If you cant tell the difference between Britney and Bruno Mars or, hell, the difference between Kate Bush and Prince....then I question how you guys even became Prince fans in the first place.

Bruno is clearly the most talented pop star of his generation, but I don't think he will carry the torch. To carry the torch means, you have to take what came before and expand beyond it. I don't see Bruno pushing pass Prince in terms of music and performance. The thing that got me was when producer Mark Ronson said it took 4 to 5 months to complete Uptown Funk. At first, I thought maybe they worked on it a little at a time over the course of a few months. But no Ronson was almost bragging that the spent a tremendous amount of time trying to perfect this track. Is he serious? They spent all that time working on a rudimentary funk track that Prince could spit out in his sleep by himself in a few hours. A track that most funk bands could record in a few days. For all that time, I would expect something on the level of Crystal Ball or All My Dreams. Take a look at the songwriters for Uptown Funk. Jeff Bhasker, Philip Lawrence, Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson, Nicholas Williams, Devon Gallaspy, Lonnie Simmons, The Gap Band, Rudolph Taylor If they needed 9 songwriters, what exactly are his skill sets in the studio? There were also three producers. Mark Ronson, Jedd Bhasker, Bruno Mars If Mark and Bruno are multi-instrumentalists and producers, why couldn't they both just bang out this song by themselves over a weekend? It´s not because I am a Prince fan, but I still didnt see nobody in this generation that has the genius of Prince (and Bowie). Maybe somebody will appear, but not Bruno. He is talented, but no genius |

Yeah its not a generational thing. Hes just too old. He's basically all down hill now. I love Bruno, but If he was going to become a true great, that time has past. He's looking at playing smaller and smaller gigs now that he is getting older and older without ever getting to that level of even a Britney Spears. She was Bruno level in her late teens, he's in his mid 30's. No one all of a sudden becomes a genius in their mid 30's. Most legends had a legacy by then and were coasting. As others have mentioned, Bruno lacks that charisma. I saw his Video set in a strip club, and he still doesn't have that sexual chemistry. Prince - even dudes were saying that if he looked at them that way, they just might...you know. Prince had that extra something. | |

It´s not a generational thing. I would LOVE to see new artists that could be the new geniuses. But I dont see that in Mars, Timberlake or Alicia Keys. They are very talented, but not geniuses. Kendrick Lamar is maybe the most interesting of this generation. Bowie, Prince and George Clinton liked him. But I dont see him with the potential to be as great as these ones yet. |

I would say adele is on the trajectory. Lets see where she goes. Onviosly not an in a diffent way amd not the experimenatal side as Prince, but she has written some incredible songs at an early age, and an amazing voice. and she is still really young. | |
