Are you sure you wanna underestimate Jam and Lewis, just to make Janet look better? Come on,now..that's not fair. And its equally unfair for you to do the same thing to Janet. Jam and Lewis were working with Charelle before they worked with Janet. So why has she never had the same success Janet has? And all of those songs you listed were big hits but they were not crossover hits. And although they did well they didn't do well enough to make them mainstream #1 hits. Which let's be honest thats what most singers, producers, etc want. Ask yourself what was the last major hit Jam and Lewis produced in the last 5-7 years? I'll wait... "Which is it? A voice with known and firm limits or one that is strong and dynamic?" . She is versatile, meaning she is able to adjust her vocal styling to whichever genre she is performing in. However, she doesn't push her voice out of her limits by not doing things that she knows her voice can't do. It's really not that hard to understand. Quit the semantics. . "U prove she ISNT lip-syncing. It's so obvious to me she is, im not wasting time to prove otherwise. U can wait for me too...but im not going to. Im not gonna wait for u to prove she ISNT "lip-syncing....cuz u can't." . No, the reason you're not going to "waste your time to prove" that she's lip-syncing is because she isn't. It's pretty convenient that when I ask you to back up your ridiculous claims and prove that she is lip-syncing, you can't. You're not fooling me. I know you can't find any proof because it doesn't exist. This isn't lip-synced. Like I said, I'll wait for the proof (which I know you don't have, because it doesn't exist), but until then I firmly believe that this isn't lip-synced. . You can see that the audio is NOT out-of-sync, her breathing corresponds to the words she's singing and you can even see her go out of breath at the end of a few phrases. It is so clear that this is LIVE. . It is so hilarious the reach that haters will go to drag someone down that they simply dislike. . You're welcome to remain in your realm of delusion, but I'm sure Ms. Jackson isn't bothered by your baseless accusations that she lipped a performance, that is clearly live, back in 1998. . "I just dont delude myself with the idea that she's a great singer....she isn't...and Uve said so yourself." . Sweetheart, the only one who's deluded is you by thinking this performance is lip-synced. Janet is a fine singer in her own right. Quit trying to convince me otherwise because it's not going to work. I never said she wasn't a great singer. Quit putting words in my mouth. I clearly said she "isn't the greatest singer in the world, but she's a great singer in her own right". So you just pulled that one of your ass. Nice try, though. . Remain pressed. Janet owes very little to Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, because she broke ground because of her OWN talent; not by any other means. . Stay pressed and deluded. Just don't ask me to join you.

. No, they don't, apparently. They thrive and live off of it. It probably keeps their dull lives going.

Honestly whether or not a group of people on a Prince forum think that Janet can't sing doesn't change the fact that she is one of the most successful recording artists in history and I don't think you all should let it bother you as much as it does.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
. It's not that I let it bother me so much as the fact that some folks around here can be so ignorant. I put the video up and the first replies are "lip-synced!!" and endless rants about how I must be "deaf" if I think Janet can sing. I'm not letting it get to me, it's just that pepole are jumping down my throat as if I said the most horrendous thing in the world.

prove she isnt lipsyncing.
someone already said they have this recording that she lip synced too. prove she isnt lip syncing to that. u wont cuz u cant...so were at a stalemate. "i asked u first...neenerneener...!" lol
no one asked u to get riled up...u did that on your own. all ive done is state that its obviously lip synced and that janet isnt a great vocalist. i said i like janet. she pretty, she has a great work ethic. She dances great. she just not a good vocalist. I would feel silly saying the talent contained in one of her performances got me emotionally caught up. Theres far better vocal performers i reserve that for. If it rocks your boat...goody for you...it aint gotta rock mine and it don't. I feel u r shortchanging your ears if these r the performances that get your goat. expose your ears to more and stop cheating yourself. U aint gotta...but u might enjoy it.
if ariannna grande can be famous for singing....jj may well have broke in on her own...but one is silly if they sitting there pretending her relation to MJ didnt have an effect on her degree of success. [Edited 5/28/15 19:10pm] [Edited 5/28/15 19:11pm]

Exactly! Just keep praising her like I do . The haters will always be here spreading negativity.
The only reason Janet is coming back is because she feels the love. Doesn't really matter what people on here think about her. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

. "someone already said they have this recording that she lip synced too." . And yet when I asked that person to prove it and bring it up, they couldn't. Like I said, convenience is the crutch that you guys love to lean on. You love throwing around ridiculous claims, but when challenged and asked to put your money where your mouth is, it is "wasting your time." . You seem to be pretty ignorant as well. I have a very low patience and tolerance for ignorant people who can't see outside the box. What does "emotionally caught up" mean in reference to this discussion? I really hate to insult people that don't know any better but, you sound really stupid. I never asked you to comment on this post, so why did you if you have a problem backing your evidence for this baseless claim? Ariana Grande also has NOTHING to do with this, so why you brought that little girl's name up is mystifying. And what does you liking Janet have anything to do with what I'm discussing with you? Is it because you like Janet I'm supposed to believe you? The flawed logic that runs rampant on this discussion board . You just can't stand the fact that Janet can actually carry a tune LIVE as evident from the video I posted. That's YOUR problem, NOT mine. I will continue to enjoy this lovely performance while you remain pressed like a suit against a hot iron. I couldn't care less, really. . No proof, no reason for me to believe your baseless claim. If you can provide the evidence, I will humbly admit my mistake, but until then, this is live and I have no reason to take your word for anything. It looks live, and I can hear her lose her breath subtly at certain points. I'm going to trust my ears and eyes before considering the biased baseless claims of someone else. . But, anyway, in regards to Michael, I created this thread specifically to share and discuss this performance, please do not bring Michael up and his so-called relevancy to Janet's talent. Janet made a name for herself and was arguably nearly as big as her brother was. The same can't be said for the other Jackson siblings. I love Janet and Michael equally and they both are the among the most talented human beings that have walked the earth. . I'm not bothered, either way, and I'm not riled up, however, I don't have the patience for ignoramuses who spew ignorance. I do, however, love watching people make a fool of themselves which you are apparently very good at. . I can almost taste the saltiness in your reply. Did Janet kill your relative or something?

u r hilarious....saltiness? thats your own tears...lol...i unno...janet aint done shit to me. . u sure u not bothered....u seem to be pretty bothered to me....these big huge defensive replies. . i love the imagry of "spewing ignorance" thing u said. Makes me think of Nutt squirting all over your face. . I remember saying ignoramus waaaaaay back in 85....nice word. forty 8 cents...not quite fitty . . again....You provide proof of your claim. U said janet sang it live...prove it...cuz that sorry clip dont' . the VAST majority of janets performances follow the lips moving to tape format...nothing says anything different about this. . janets your baby...u prove it. and fyi...if by a miracle she did sing it live...its still a sorry vocal performance...cuz Janet is a poor vocalist come to terms with it. U enjoy the work of a poor vocalist...nothing wrong with that...facts is facts tho.

The fact of the matter is they needed each other. There is no if this or if that. It is what it is. They saved each other. There's a reason why their career really took off (1985) when hers did. It was a team effort. And it worked! BlackCat1985

I like Janet's singing. She is not the best vocalist but she IS a good singer. She shows a lot of vunerabiity and emotion when she sings compared to more stronger vocalists. I use to think that the video the OP posted was live too but I doubt it now when u listen closely and watch her lips (Janet is the master of miming not to knock her but she is) but it still doesn't change the fact that she is a good singer nonetheless.

jam & lewis have pages of discography without janet... the fact that janet was their best selling artist has more to do with label politics and marketing than talent... all the women in Sounds Of Blackness could outperform janet jackson.. so could cherrelle, karyn white, thelma houston, mary j blige, cheryl lynn and most othe r women jimmy and terry worked with... janet became a major star because she was the little sister of the Jackson 5... she was ALWAYS entitled because of that....some janet jackson fans probably think she got the role of Penny on Good Times because of her acting skills...No...

THIS. Times infinity. And it deserved to be highlighted.
At the end of the day, she is JANET Jackson, the multiple Grammy-winning, Academy Award-nominated, record setting, trend setting multi-platinum selling singer, performer, film and TV actress, businesswoman, artist, #1 NY Times Bestselling author and the leader of the Rhythm Nation. And that is the reason her recent announcement made every media trade and outlet from TIME and CNN to BILLBOARD and ROLLING STONE. She is a legend in her field, one that every girl ruling the pop charts today and many in the past has and have namechecked as an inspiration. People in a Prince forum doubting her legacy and how she obtained it are not now nor have they ever been a factor in anything except for giving their...opinions.

Are you even listening to yourself? Not only is that statement sloppy, unfounded and, for lack of better phrasing, fucking stupid, but it's hackneyed, untrue and played to death. The old adage of "If I only had a dime for everytime I've heard that" comes to mind, actually.
Janet Jackson became a star because of Janet Jackson. Being the "little sister" of the Jackson 5 gave her opportunity, but it's what she did with that opportunity that made her one of the best-selling artists to come to prominence in the '80s. By your logic, Rebbie and LaToya should have become "major stars" too. They didn't. They're not Janet. Not begruding them, but they're not her. Janet had that "it" factor, and it's why each album she put out from 1986-1993 was bigger than the last, why subsequent albums were recieved well with one of them even being declared a masterpiece by various journalists, why women like the aforementioned Karyn White, Pebbles, Jody Watley, Vanessa Williams and Paula Abdul were able to put out moderate-to-successful albums in the '80s, TLC, Aaliyah and J-Lo were doing their thing in the '90s and Ciara, Britney, Tinashe, Kelly Rowland and Beyonce have basically given her credit as inspiring them to get into showbusiness in the new millennium. Being "the little sister" of the Jackson 5 doesn't have a damn thing to do with why she went on to accomplish what she did. It was a springboard, and that's it. Begrudging her of it says more about you than it does about her.

WAIT A MINUTE, I FORGOT SOMETHIN'...
She got the part because she was able to cry on cue. Norman Lear set up the audition where he was to rebuke a necktie that she was supposedly going to give him, and when he rejected it, she cried. She got the part. The Jackson 5 weren't even in the room. [Edited 5/29/15 22:18pm] "Get up off that grey line"
