Lol! Janet has a beautiful voice! Just because she doesn't scream to the top of her lungs doesn't mean she can't sing. Janet knows her limits and she stays within them. People are always gonna hate on her for being a Jackson. But they could never explain why exactly she became so successful and her other siblings except for Michael fell to the wayside. Janet keep doing you boo! The haters will always hate but I congratulate you for coming into your own and not riding you brother's coattails. You are an Icon and they hate you for it!

Basically. What hits did she ever have without them?
They had plenty without her...

[Edited 5/26/15 12:59pm]

The same could be said for Jimmy and Terry who hasn't had a hit just as long as Janet hasn't. If they are so great(not saying they aren't), why haven't they had a hit in almost 15 years?

No it couldn't. Like I said, Jam/Lewis have a huge resume of hits that extend past Janet, and were already on the come up and building their hitmaking repertoire by the time she started working with them. Hell, they had produced several sizable hits prior to Control. It's the whole reason why John Mclain green-lit them for her in the first place. They weren't like Timbaland pre-Aaliyah.

Again, Janet has had not had a single hit song outside of them (or their associates like Monte Moore/Jellybean Johnson)...and she's actually worked with a bunch of other established producers (Foster Sylvers, Angela Winbush, Giorgio Morodor, Babyface, Neyo and Stargate, Missy Elliott, Tricky, Rodney Jerkins, Kanye West, Dallas Austin, Jermaine Dupri) that she couldn't do anything significant with.

Face it, Janet owes all of her success to Jam and Lewis (as well as Rene's creativitity and the added perk of being MJ's sister.) They were the only ones who could puppet-master her. She couldn't do it without them.

This is just not treu.

It´s the combination of Jam and Lewis and Janet that worked.

Jam and lewis may have some success before Janet, but really not on the level as they did with Janet.

Alexander O´neal, Karyn White etc. all had great songs, but never managed to be this big and last this long.

They had 16 numbers ones of which 9 were with Janet! 4 were with acts who were already big (george Michael, mariah Carey etc..).

If it only was because she is MJ´s sister, she could have maybe one hit.

Latoya worked with Full force...so...famous producer duo, sister of MJ....but it went nowhere.

It´s Jam and Lewis and Janet!

Her boobs made (Rolling Stone) and broke (Nipplegate) her, popularity-wise. Her musical talent/ability was always marginal, quite evident in the post-jam & lewis releases but she is a fantastic actress and I feel alot of that contributed to her music video successes. She is like Rihanna in that folks that can't sing sound good to themselves when they sing along with her because she can't sing either. She is also a strong songwriter. Has Janet ever done a film or tv performance where she acts as a character and also sings? She seems to prefer to keep the two separated. Maybe the right role never came along.

You are a gotdamn lie for comparing Janet to Rihanna. When has Rihanna got on stage for over 2 hours and commanded it like no other? I'll wait. Janet has 10 #1 hits. All of which featured only her. Over half of Rihanna's hits feature other artist. When has Rihanna wrote any of her music? Y'all stay trying to disrespect Janet. But don't do so to the one you all call the Queen of POP. Someone who can't sing or dance but yets gets a pass because of her skin color.

This!!! But they continue to bash her. When truth be told Jimmy and Terry needed Janet just as bad as Janet needed them. It worked both ways even Jimmy will tell you that. Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, Randy, Rebbie, and Latoya were all MJ's siblings. So why didn't their careers take off. Mind you the brothers were famous before Janet. They had all kinds of connections within the industry. Their careers when no where.

Just like how posters were quick to drag Michael into this discussion by saying she only is successful because of him. Now was that neccessary? Isn't THIS supposed to be a JANET thread? How about you object to that? But no, you'll conveniently skim over that. The bias. nuts popcorn

She may not be a powerhouse vocalist (everybody's voice isn't built that way, after all), but Ms. Jackson is a a great singer. She sounds just like the record! You can't say that about many singers. It's also haunting just how much she sounds like Michael at certain points eek

.

Just thought I'd share this smile

Well.....apparently....the very clip you provided was proof enuff for many of the people on this thread.......any other 'proof' necessary? Or r u done with this?

I'm going to ask you, once again, where's the concrete and solid proof and evidence that this is lip-synced? Don't turn this around on me, you and another poster brought up the lip-sync accusations, so now YOU have to back up that claim. Otherwise, you're just another hater full of shit. Nobody's saying Janet is the greatest vocalist of all time. I'm saying she's a great singer in her own right. And she certainly sings a hell of a lot better than most people ruling the charts these days, anyway. neutral I'll wait.

.

She doesn't try to sing outside her range and she stays within her comfort zone and doesn't try to execute anything with her voice that she isn't capable of; she knows her limits. What's wrong with that? You may not like her timbre, but she brings life to a song and I can't imagine ANYONE singing Janet's songs but her. Her voice is dynamic and versatile, yet soft and sensual and has a very diverse catalog which she adjusts her voice to very well according to the genre. Janet is talented and I enjoy her voice. She and Michael are the two of the most talented musicians/singers/entertainers in history.

I'm fine with people disagreeing, but when people go off on a tangent and just drag on and on and on, is when it starts to get irritating and annoying. If one doesn't think she's a great singer, that's fine, but don't try to convince me to change my opinion just because you don't feel the same way. Say you don't agree and move on, quit trying to change other people's opinions. rolleyes

The records that Jam & Lewis did with Janet would have been nothing and would have gone nowhere without Janet. That's simply a fact; your blatant bias isn't going to change that.

.

'Control', 'Rhythm Nation', 'janet.', 'The Velvet Rope' are all the result of Janet's talent; not her brother and not Jam & Lewis. She broke ground within the music industry because of those albums. Give credit where credit is due.

Which is it? A voice with known and firm limits or one that is strong and dynamic?

U prove she ISNT lip-syncing. It's so obvious to me she is, im not wasting time to prove otherwise. U can wait for me too...but im not going to. Im not gonna wait for u to prove she ISNT lip-syncing....cuz u can't.

I loooove me some JJ. I had my hand to titty poster...I have my 1814 and Janet. And velvet rope. I like Janet Jackson lots....I just dont delude myself with the idea that she's a great singer....she isn't...and Uve said so yourself. Those r Jim jam and terry projects for a chart asset more than they r creations of miss Jackson(I'm nasty...see).

If they had given Cherrelle WITOY it would have not been a #1 for her. They were already working with Cherrelle and none of her stuff went to #1 on the main Billboard charts. WITOY was Janet's, Jimmy's,and Terry's first mainstream #1 hit. They produced other songs before that but none had reached that level.

I really don’t know how people can tell she is lip syncing, but if she is it is not only really disappointing, but completely deceiving. And I truly hope it’s not true.

In regards to Janet being nothing without Jam & Lewis – I think they needed each other pretty much equally. J&L did some amazing stuff for Johnny Gill, Karyn White and Alexander O’Neil. But I fear they would have stuck to the dated New Jack Sound if it wasn’t for her – I can’t imagine them evolving and producing magnificent albums like ‘janet.’ And ‘The Velvet Rope’ without her - she definitely introduced them to genres they wouldn’t have dared tried.

It’s so easy to dismiss female singers who are not powerhouse singers as untalented – I guess for some people they are just required to belt out a song that was written for them and go home i.e. Celine Dion and Whitney.

It's hysterical that Janet stans are in here acting like she was the one responsible for taking JJTL to greater heights, when before them she was some background character on Fame and singing chart washouts like "Don't Stand Another Chance." And lets not even talk about how things have been AFTER them...which basically proves that she needed them a whole lot more than the other way around.

It was THEIR writing and producing that made those songs hits. She hadn't had any real chart success before that album, so how was she equally responsible for making WITOY a hit? lol How do you figure Cherrelle couldn't have score as big a hit with it? Hell, unlike Janet, Cherelle had had notable hits before that.

I just watched about 5 of these...they all lip synced. Why would this one have been any different.

Breathing and the breath cut-offs r always dead giveaways for lip syncing.

Check the breathing. Despite the need for people to breath to live and sing, u will notince a huge lack of breathing from someone who is a live...let alone alive on a stage singing a song. U will see a lot of truncated breath and a lot of over pronunciation with the mouth. When the vox r processed in the studio....a lot, not all, but a lot of the breathing the singer does while singing is cut out cuz all of those gasps dont found hot. They leave some breathing in cuz it will begin to sound inhuman... But there is still a marked lack of it....espicially for someone singing....singing takes A LOT of breathing.
