Who says Janet can't sing?

I've been obsessed with this performance lately:

.

.

She may not be a powerhouse vocalist (everybody's voice isn't built that way, after all), but Ms. Jackson is a a great singer. She sounds just like the record! You can't say that about many singers. It's also haunting just how much she sounds like Michael at certain points eek

.

Just thought I'd share this smile

The woman's talent is definately not her voice - weak, nasal & uninspiring. I doubt you would of heard of her if it wasn't for her brother, she'd be working in some backstreet nailbar singing (said loosely) along to the radio in another world.

Visually fine otherwise meh .....

This is lipsynced. The vocal used here is on the multitrack for the song.

No, this isn't lip-synced. I've read about that already.

I don't really care what you think, to be honest. I love her voice and you can't tell me if I would have heard of her or not if it weren't for her brother. She made a name for herself apart from her brother and both are very talented individuals. The whole Michael vs. Janet argument doesn't interest me. I LOVE both. cool

Well, that's funny since I have this exact acapella for this performance. It is lipsynced.

I thought it was beautiful. Janet is not a power house vocalist but she can sing and what she does works for her. I never doubted her talents. I think she is an awesome vocalist.

It isn't lip-synced and it was already proved to me before that this isn't lip-synced. Whatever acapella you are referring to is stemmed from this LIVE performance. You tried it. lol But, like I always say, believe what you want to believe. I know this isn't lip-synced, and you have no proof that it is lip-synced.

I'm not trying to "pull nonsense over you". The acapella wasn't "streamed" from this performance either, it was recorded in a studio.

I don't think she's a great singer but not bad. I'd say average. But good entertainer. She seems to always gets bashed on her singing but Id always thought she was just as good or better than Madonna on vocals and definitely a better dancer.

Thank you for proving my point. Your pathetic argument is that "it looked lip-synced to me!!!" Like I said, pull up concrete proof and evidence that this is lip-synced; I know you can't, of course, because I know this isn't lip-synced. Nice try, though. That's no more proof than me saying the sky is purple because it "looks purple". Do you see how flawed that logic is? Of course you don't, so I don't expect anymore from an ignoramus such as yourself. It's hilarious just how stupid people can be, and you've just proved that to me. I didn't think it could get worse but I'm constantly proved wrong every day.
.
Next time, try to use LOGIC in your replies. I know that's probably a foreign concept to you lol

And its comical that this means this much to u.

To b clear...it wasn't an argument...intentionally. Its so painfully obvious...it isn't worth one. Janet can't sing that good live...its common knowledge... This lip synched performance is ear evidence of it.

LOL...addiction can play some dirty tricks on the brain.

Anyone with ears. She has terrible diction, a tendency to strain, slurs her words, is choppy and barely audible, which is why her "vocals" are usually buried under a bunch of overproduction. Half the time you can't even understand what she's saying. I remember when she went on American Idol a handful of years ago and actually lipsynced a BALLAD while just standing there. Pretty much says it all. That prehistoric Rosie performance that every Janet stan clings to like excrement hanging on a sphincter is neither here nor there. Every bad singer has a lucky moment live where they don't fail as much as they usually do.

she owes all the riches from her recording career, to the mighty production and arrangement skills of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis...

even Jesse Jackson would have been a multi-platinum selling artist with beats like she had at her disposal...all she basically had to do was hum along, and hold the hook down..

I only had to listen to 30 seconds of this to know she's lip-synching. I like Janet, but her voice is weak.

I love her timbre so I don't care about diction, etc. I just like what I hear. Her pitch is REALLY good.

Why does every Janet thread on here have to turn into a bash fest? If you disagree and think she can't sing. Fine. But saying she's basically nothing as an artist is just unnecessary and untrue. She contributes alot to her music and no female of her time or today possesses her stage presence and performance ability. It's obvious that people on here have a biased negative opinion of Janet. For what reason, I don't know. Not that it really matters in the end. And it's a huge reach to suggest that any artist could've had Janet's success with Jimmy and Terry's beats. Before Janet, Jimmy and Terry were virtually nobodys and even while working with Janet, the success they experienced outside of working with Janet still dwarfed in comparison to the success she had with them. Jimmy and Terry would've never ever even nominated at the Oscars had they not worked with Janet nor would they have experimented with as many sounds that they did had it not been from Janet's own input. Notice how much of Jimmy and Terry's production sounds the same with other artists. Mainly just R&B. With Janet you heard R&B, Pop, Rock, jazz, opera, hip hop, electronic music and trip hop. They never experimented with such an array of sounds with other artists and why do you think that is? You can have the greatest beats in the world, but if you don't have a good artist with personality to sell it, those beats won't mean squat. And that performance is not lipsynced. Janet has sung live on many occasions, including on live television. To suggest she lipsynced in front of a studio audience is just ludicrous.

The same could be said for Jimmy and Terry who hasn't had a hit just as long as Janet hasn't. If they are so great(not saying they aren't), why haven't they had a hit in almost 15 years?

Because they are rich and don't ever need to work another day in

their life unless they want. Period. Janet fan here(just not an insane one like a lot here) but I don't care if she doesn't ever

have another hit in her life or record another studio album. Just like Jam and

Lewis her legacy is already cemented.
