She's been in the biz for a while, even did some shows with Prince a few years back but it still would have been good exposure for her since she isn't as well known as Bey.

She is a genuine talent, equally adept at blues and jazz. I haven't been as much of a fan of her more recent work, but she deserves to be heard by a national audience. I think this was her shot.

Unfortunately, Qazz is right. If it were up to the Org 10 years ago, Justin Timberlake would be a national pariah today. As we've seen in the past, Queen Bey will continue to thrive for a while, and Ledisi will grind for broader recognition.

Ironically, the two performers featured in "Glory," in honor of Dr. King taking a stand, failed to stand up for a fellow film co-star and featured soundtrack artist.

Don't let them off the hook, especially Common, who's pontificated about standing up for black women for 2 decades. As a longtime fan/apologist of the Artist Formerly Known As Sense, I'm very disappointed that I've heard nothing about him protesting this move.

Feeling Orange, Sometimes Blue? I've got that one and like it. I sometimes get the songs on Orange and Soulsinger mixed up but my favorite tunes of hers are "Take Time" and "Autumn Leaves." I didn't take to her work after she signed with Blue Note, but I might re-visit it and be part of the solution.

It's on Amazon; unfortunately, I can't get my computer to post the hyperlink but it's available for about 20.00 there.

It's extremely frustrating because Leidisi deserves much more recognition than she gets.

It's also disappointing that guys like John Legend and especially Common portray themselves as conscious dudes. John Legend spoke about Beyonce like she was John Gotti or something. eek

Has it come to that, I wonder? Throwing her weight around as Jay's wife perhaps?

They are all friends.. It seems to be a power clique...Add Alicia Keyes and Swiss Beats--because I thought that "New Yok song" sounded like Legend's writing style (my opinion, but I have no proof other than the song itself..).

When it comes to $$$$$, exposure, and remaining-relavent for how-long you can, people just do not think, they probably move quickly---with agents and management urging you to look-out for your own career..

The Grammy Asociation offered--before anyone involved could not stand-up for Ledisi...

Still, its going to hurt a bit with angry folks on Twitter spitting on them there... Now, I think they would have let Ledisi perform it...

Have you guys heard beyonce's explanation of why she chose to perform the song? I'll let you guys read or hear it for yourselves....

-

-

Bey explains,

“My grandparents marched with Dr. King. My grandfather was a part of the first generation that attended the all-white school. My father has grown up with a alot of trauma from those experiences. I feel like now I can sing for his pain, I can sing for my grandparents pain. I can sing for some of the families that have lost their sons.”

-

I'll just say that her PR Team ain't no joke. lol lol lol lol

-

CORRECTION: Looks like they filmed this prior to the stage jacking she did on Sunday. But still.....Doesn't change anything for me.

lol That explanation is silly, because that's most Black American's stories and histories. I have a similar family history, and I'm sure Ledisi has a similar family history too. It's a dumb reason for Beyonce insert herself in something that had nothing to do with her.

Why do I have a feeling she wouldn't even be interesed in singing this song if not for it being in an Oscar nominated movie?

She a smart cookie tho'.

She knows she can escape from real controversy because to my understanding it was HER idea for the song to be performed in the first place.

When is Beyonce gonna get a new hair weave? Almost everytime we see her, she's got that same 1972 Marcia Brady wig on nuts isn't it time for something new?!

Good question. We haven't seen her real hair since 1997 and it's probably going to stay that way for the rest of eternity. She's probably convinced herself that she's a natural blonde. She's never letting go of her nappy weave, not gonna happen, LOL. I think this was a stank move on her part to steal this moment from Ledisi. All another reason why I'm NOT a fan of this overrated tramp.

I think it's strange we don't hear black music consumers complaining about John's watered-down R&B like they used to back in the 80's with Lionel, when he was accused of sounding too Pop. I like John well enough, but I haven't heard him record anything remotely as soulful as a lot of Lionel's stuff. John is the black Barry Manilow. smile

I like Barry Manilow and I'm black last time I checked... lol

Anyhoo, I think the difference is that Legend always had that style whereas Lionel's style changed when he left the Commodores. He was labeled a sell-out.

Speaking for myself, I felt that Lionel treated the Commodores kind of shitty, that's what I don't like.

John Legend is a good singer. However, he is very bland and hasn't evolved artistically. His current sound is more gimmicky now. His first album Kanye produced was actually pretty good and the second had a few good songs. He seems to be more of a trend follower than an "artist." Overall, his style and personality is very boring too.

That is the main reason Walter Orange and William King don't have any interest
in reuniting with him. They mentioned it on their MySpace page several years ago when Lionel started talking reunion. They mentioned they appreciate the contributions of past members but were only concerned with the current lineup. I don't want to join the bash Beyoncé party lol but she was willing to let Taylor
Swift get her SHINE at an awards show after the Kanye incident but she couldn't ask the Grammys to let Ledisi sing the song she sung for the soundtrack. disbelief

Her PR team works overtime to promote this image of her as being so sweet and wholesome but the skullduggery that she's laid out over the years is very telling of her. She's extremely overrated and satures the market to the point where you cannot escape her. I'm on the verge of giving up watching some of my favorite entertainment shows because they mention her damn near everyday that I watch. It's really getting to be too much. I just change the channel.

When you have news journalist like Anderson Cooper saying "It's Beyonce's world and we just live in it" in a serious matter, you know it's gotten ridiculous. Plus John Legend saying you can't say no to her. This is why she thinks she can do whatever she wants like forcing her way onto credits she doesn't deserve, and doing shady shit at the expense of other artists because everyone's lips are so firmly planted on her ass.

I've never seen the media kiss a celebrities ass so much, but with excessive ass kissing comes excessive backlash. I wouldn't want it lol. It looks like the backlash has been starting the last couple years too. She better pray they don't do her like they did Michael.
