by KORY GROWJANUARY 24, 2014
Madonna has joined the already star-studded performance lineup at the Grammys on Sunday. Today, the Recording Academy confirmed the Material Girl's appearance along with several other performers:Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong will team with Miranda Lambert in tribute to the Everly Brothers' Phil Everly, who passed away earlier this month, and Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue will also perform. Last year, Armstrong teamed with Norah Jones to record the Everly Brothers tribute album Foreverly. That release was a track-for-track rerecording of the duo's 1958 record, Songs Our Daddy Taught Us. While that recording did not get a Grammy nomination this year, Green Day's documentary ¡Cuatro! is up for Best Music Film and Armstrong's duet partner, Lambert, is up for Best Country Solo Performance for"Mama's Broken Heart," a track off her 2011 album Four the Record that was released as a single last year. 20 People You Won't Believe Have Grammys Besides Armstrong's performance with Lambert, this Sunday's Grammys will feature a number of interesting musical collaborations. As previously announced, Dave Grohl, Nine Inch Nails, Queens of the Stone Age and Fleetwood Mac guitarist/vocalist Lindsey Buckingham will close out the show. Prior to that, the show will feature several "duets": Metallica will play "One" with concert p... Lang Lang; Robin Thicke will team with Chicago; Carole King and Sara Bareilles will perform together; Kendrick Lamar has something in the works with Imagine Dragons; and Pink will likely sing "Just Give Me a Reason" with fun. frontman Nate Ruess. Daft Punk will play their first televised performance since 2008 with help from Stevie Wonder, Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams, and a quartet of country's finest – Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Blake Shelton – will play together. Daft Flunks: The Grammys' Rocky Relationship With EDM Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are set to play separate sets at the show. Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Katy Perry, Lorde, Kacey Musgraves, John Legend, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will all perform as well. The Grammy Awards, which L.L. Cool J will host, take place on Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The show will be broadcast live on CBS beginning at 8 p.m. EST.

I hope so too!!! Fingers crossed!!!
Madonna is rumored to be performing with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, not really exciting... She should be with either Katy Perry or Daft Punk/Nile Rodgers/Pharrell Williams!

Queens is closing the show with Dave Grohl, probably will be the saving grace for the show, the grammys has now become famous for its pairings, which in a way is crazy and shows how "bad" the talent they nominate now are, that you need gimmicks to get people interested or sound decent. Sunday, January 26, is the 2014 Grammys and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences is going all out, inviting chart-toppers and Hollywood royalty to the big show. Grammy producers seem keen on teaming up acts from across the music spectrum: Daft Punk is gracing the stage with R&B legend Stevie Wonder, while Miranda Lambert and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong will perform a duet honoring The Everly Brothers’ Phil Everly , who died earlier this week. Pink and Fun’s Nate Ruess will perform their song “Just Give Me a Reason,” while country legends Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson will perform with The Voice‘s Blake Shelton, who is nominated for Best Country Solo Performance for “Mine Would Be You,” and Best Country Album for Based On A True Story. Mrs. and Mrs. Carter, a.k.a. Jay-Z and Beyoncé, are said to be hitting the Grammys stage together—reportedly to perform Yonce’s “...n Love.” (Maybe Justin Timberlake will pop up to join in on “Holy Grail.”) Other interesting matchups include Robin Thicke and Chicago, Metallica will classical pianist Lana Lang, and “Brave” singer Sara Bareilles with legendary singer-songwriter Carole King. Lorde, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry are also on the bill somewhere—we’d love to see them all sing together, but aren’t holding our breath. Movie stars Julia Roberts, Steve Coogan and Jeremy Renner have all been tagged as presenters. Don’t ask us what their music connection is . (Roberts was married to Lyle Lovett for, like, five minutes in the 90s.) One rumored pairing we’re weak in the knees over is Madonna and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, who are allegedly going to perform the latter’s paean to marriage equality, “Same Love.” (Mack and Ryan are nominated for seven Grammys.) The night will also feature a tribute to the Beatles with John Mayer and Keith Urban performing”Don’t Let Me Down,” Alicia Keys and John Legend singing “Let It Be,” and the Eurythmics reuniting for the first time since 2000. Paul McCartney, a Grammy nominee for Best Rock Song, and former bandmate Ringo Starr will receive lifetime achievement awards, which is fitting since its the 50th anniversary of the Fab Four’s appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Yep. The line up is boring and predictable.
I won't be watching.
These award shows are boring and there is nobody interesting on them. You know who is going to win (thanks to payola and popularity), you know who is going to perform, the performers do the same boring performances, the performers are not that good
The problem I have with these award shows besides the corrupt commitees, is they ALWAYS pick the same pop performers. Even back in the 80s and 90s they had R&B acts , jazz acts or Rock acts perform at the shows and they didnt pick the same pop performers or veteran acts.
What they should do is try to pick people who are nominated in each of the categories. Let some other artists shine for a change, the industry wont let it happen. Isnt Chrisette Michelle nominated? Why not ask her to perform her hit, she is a good live vocalist. Isnt Charlie Wilson nominated? Isnt David Bowie nominated? Just get different people instead of the same boring predictable line up.

The nominees have been an afterthought for quite some time now anyways. I know you guys say the show is boring and all but I disagree. To me The Grammy's is THE music awards show when it comes to giving a good show. And there's always the danger of that surprise performance that everyone just won't be able to stop talking about.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes, nominees are an afterthought but they can bring different variety to who performs at the Grammys. If they are going to nominate someone like Anthony Hamilton or Stokley, why not give them an opportunity to perform over lets say someone who performs every single year or every other year? Just bring some new blood to the table, ya know? I dont really care about award shows because I dont watch them but just saying. Nobody talks about grammy performances anymore. The last talked about grammy performance where people talked about it for months was what in the 80's and people STILL talk about those performances today. Performances like those are memorable. They're not performances you talk about for two days and then forget a year later

> That was The Superbowl, not The Grammy's, that Beyonce performed at last year. But I do get it. I was hoping Best New Artist James Blake would be performing on the show, but I don't see his name mentioned on the performers list. I would've gladly forsaken Katy Perry for James Blake. Just sayin'.

The grammys are searching, the mindset that puts shows like these together is the same that puts together reality shows and things like that, dont think because its an awards show that the thinking is more "sophisticated" cause its not. So that is why like a new piece of chewing gum, a performance pairing artists you never see together last as long as the flavor of a new piece of gum. But this goes for everything , even the year with Prince and Beyonce when the media was all over it for a bit, it still wasnt that "great" a performance, to me it would have been more memorable if he played alone. But also it has to do with the substance of the artist Robin Thicke with Chicago may sound interesting and like its going to be mega but playing that "Blurred Lines"? and then im guessing they are going to jump into a chicago classic for a minute to make an excuse for Chicago being there with him, its gonna be OL maybe good maybe bad but "memorable" no. To Me Heart doing "Stairway" on the Kennedy Center Honors for zeppelin that was memorable and still mentioned and got alot of praise, or Norah Jones and David Grohl doing "Maybe Im Amazed" on the honors also, maybe its not the pairings, maybe its the damn talent and material. plus the grammys try to appeal to audience that dont watch TV, its that simple, most people dont even watch tv anymore that are in the demographic of Robin Thicke or Maclemore or whatever. This show will be more boring the new version of football's Pro Bowl. No thanks I'd rather watch the Pro Bowl that's been butchered by the new commissioner who has chosen to have two former Hall of Famers who's been retired for a decade to choose the teams. Who the hell is a Macklemore? Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

Macklemore and Ryan are on the way up, I don't know why they would want to be attached to that bloated carcass. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

Exactly!
I think the Grammys make these pairings and pick the same people because they think that will draw ratings for "the moment". Its all about "the moment right now" They dont think about classic moments anymore but to be fair that era is long gone and aint returning no time soon. They seem to have their set clique when it comes to nominees, winners and performers. If you are not in that clique than you can forget it lol If they thought outside the box for a change and switched their performance line up every year, people might actually be more interested in watching. If they actually gave a damn about quality music instead of kissing ass people might would watch. It has no meaning anymore because its not about "music" anymore. It is a number of reasons why people dont watch it like they use too.

But for the last 4-5 years the ratings have been huge. My theory is that more people are actually hearing music due to rampant downloading, so there MIGHT be a little more interest in the show. There was a time when American Idol was killing The Grammy's in the ratings. I know they don't share a night, but musically speaking I've noticed that as American Idol started its decline The Grammy's ratings increased, even with the proliferation of downloading.
