Terence Trent Darby REVISITED just finished listening to Neither Fish to Wild Card. Why does everyone praise this D'angelo character so much when T is so much better?

I was disappointed when RS put out the greatest vocalist of all time list, TTD/Sananda should be on there for his singing.

He is utterly phenomenal. I find his recent work a little uninspired, but the first few albums were absolutely amazing. "Vibrator" is my favorite. |

I really like his stuff, as Sananda or TTD. "Neither Fish" will always be s stand-out, even if it didn't generate much radio/video airplay. "Wildcard is perhaps my very favorite though... and I continue to shell-out the dough to get his more recent stuff directly from the Sananda site in Italy. What a gifted and underrated talent. I am so glad he gave up his boxing career.

Such a strange comparison...
I love TTD to death. Everything up to and including Wild Card is excellent. First and foremost, that voice is one of the very best ever! Symphony or Damn is my favorite, followed by Vibrator.
That being said, I wholeheartedly prefer D'Angelo as an artist. Thankfully, it isn't one or the other. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I was wondering about him recently & what happened to him. Really haven't heard anything about him in a few years. His voice is so unique.

I love this guy (TTD/Sanandaya)...He has always been one of my favs but I am not srue about newer stuff.I think he just lives his normal life, married, kids, in Italy and just plays what he feels like. I always find myself on those first few albums...and there is a really good live London Show [Edited 7/7/13 20:28pm]

I saw him performing live back in the days when his 1st album 'Introducing...' came out.
It was in Hamburg 'Grosse Freiheit - Kaiserkeller'

Loved & Adored his Debut... After that.... Not so much...

Guess what? D'Angelo is actually a real life person!...not a 'character'.
Since others have already dealt with your malicious, vindictive and meaningless comparison...hopefully we can all now concentrate on the music.
Both artists have great merit in their different ways...
This luvsexy4all 'character' will be comparing apples and oranges next!

Love Neither Fish Nor Flesh. I attended the Edinburgh show of the Hardline tour many moons ago, top gig.. from what I remember. He was very Prince like in his dancing/mannerisms etc.

'Do what thou wilt,' then.
With TTD / Sananda, it's all about his voice...not enough hours in the day for it.
Interesting albums up to 'Wildcard'...he gets a little too 'artsy', just for 'artsy sake'...especially lyrically at times...rather than simply creating from the heart.
'Billy Don't Fall' was quirky.

Neither Fish Nor Flesh, Symphony Or Damn & Vibrator are some of my favorite albums of all time Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

As I'm sure is the case for many. I was in junior high when Hardline came out, loved it, and was in college when Symphony or Damn came out. I really dug that album and that's my favorite of his post Hardline joints.
TTD's problem was that he was too inconsistent in the 90's when R & B was dying. Putting out albums sporadically and often with lackluster promotion contributed to his decline in sales and relevance.
Like Jay-Z said, TTD had a "1 hot album every 10 year average"...

Haven't listened to much of his newer music as Sananda, but Sananda has some really good songs. The 'Wildcard' album is definitely worth checking out too, I have the 'Wildcard Jokers Edition' CD which has a few extra songs I think. 'NFNF' is an interesting concept style album in terms of the different styles of music. As a follow up to 'Hardline' from a musical point of view, maybe Sananda could have made a 2nd 'Hardline' to maintain his fanbase and gradually expanded into different styles although there's still a strong R&B base on 'NFNF' with 'I'll Be Alright' for example. 'Vibrator' is like a rock/R&B album which some very good songs on it like 'If You Go Before Me', 'Holding onto You', 'We Don't Have That Much Time Together', 'Undeniably' amongst others. Bought 'Symphony or Damn' mainly for 'Delicate' and like that track and 'Let Her Down Easily' will have to give it a re-listen again. Going back to 'Wildcard' I think its one of Sananda's best and has the more modern R&B sound and some great songs on it like 'Sweetness' and 'What Shall I Do'. As for the D'Angelo comparison, don't really see it, I'd compare Sananda more to Prince in terms of the different musical styles.

I just can't get enough from the 2nd half of the Vibrator album. Goosebumps each time! Especially Surrender & TTD's recurring dream The man of science has learned to believe in justification, not by faith, but by verification - Thomas Henry Huxley

i STILL haven't heard Neither Fish Nor Flesh, been diggin' through some used record store crates. can't wait to find it! But yeah, D'Angelo's body of work just isn't there, i RARELY go to Brown Sugar and i admit i've yet to actually HEAR Voodoo in its entirety, but on the strength of vocals alone, TTD kills D, all the extraneous stuff is kinda irrelevant right.

anyone know about the supposed 1991 album he recorded and never released? in between fish and symphony
