That's the problem with being artist. It's not the easiest way to make a living because art comes from you, you're meant to be at the core of it, not the audience. You apprieciate and love the support from the start, but you can't let that stop you from growing as an artist or doing what you want to do. You can't let fear of letting people down, or not giving the people what they want, stop you from doing what you desire to do creativly. That's when art stops and it just becomes a job.

w/out the initial support, no matter how artistic u are, your career will not get off the ground, nor will it sustain itself.....

and unfortunately this type of view point defines how the pop ascension movement has influencing thinking...

there's plenty of artists who have come down the pike who have evolved w/out losing their original support.......

it's not matter what u are presenting as much as it is HOW YOU PRESENT IT

perfect example

LIONEL RICHIE.....the pop ascension's first victim who turned from the best songwriter in the planet to an anomoly

his landmark album CAN'T SLOW DOWN, produce by Anthony Carmichael, sold over 22 million copies worldwide...the music on that album was off the charts....awesome....stellar....each song was a can't miss...

the best music LIonel ever did as a solo artist...the true essence of Lionel

from the success of his album, he performs the opening of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles

everything he wrote turned to gold

and the next album, the follow up, DANCING ON A CEILING, it was like, his music and style changed overnight, no where near his former level, and he knew it too, maybe w/the exception of 2 songs, his music sounded like he didn't even make it himself.....and the lack of authenticity reflected by the public reaction to it.......whereas his landmark album sold over 22 million, CANT SLOW DOWN (during its initial run), DANCING ON A CEILING sold 8 million worldwide at the most....

Lionel lost over have his audience within a period of less than 2 years......

how does this happen? and how did it happen that fast...HE LOST HIS ORIGINAL SUPPORT, or I should say, he was drawn away from it, and it took him 6 years after that to release his next album, and by that point, he had fallen from the scene altogether....

no way that should have happened w/someone of his talent and songwriting ability....this wasn't some flyweight, this wasn't some guy who was a stage prop, this wasnt's some Milli Vanilli act, this was a guy who fronted one of the most prominent musical band's on the planet....this beast is so cantakerous, it literally caused Lionel to lose his voice

he lost that foundation......if you don't have that foundation intact, you're toast....

and once u lose it, it's almost impossible to regain it

but that's the great devil in the room, for the pop ascension doesn't prepare the artist it's drawing out the ramifications of what will happen once their virtue has been milked dry, then throwing u under that bus...that loooooooong bus

it's not about letting others down, it's about letting yourself down

u got it wrong once again...stop embarassing yourself

if u read between the lines of your own comment, u will see the root of the division, that permeates major facets of our culture

I NEVER EVER use the term OLD SCHOOL, that casts division right there out the box, it creates wedges

OLD SCHOOL terminology did not exist until the pop ascension movement began to take reign....

so when the movement began to extract the greatest virture, when they began to tap into the well, when they began to exploit culture, to make the transition expand, those who's running the system of things began to indoctrinate the lexicon with differentiation, to make it appear the past was no longer viable, to distinguish what was soon to be presented to the masses, they formulated the term NEW SCHOOl......

but ironically, for NEW SCHOOL to thrive, they had to incorporate elements from OLD SCHOOL without publically recognizing where the source of expression really derived from....

that creates hostility

from 1969-1984, when MJ was riding high, there was no such thing as NEW FANS and OLD FANS, it was ALL FANS, the fans stood on one accord

there wasn't all this bitching and moaning going on......

when u don't succomb to distinctions, then you're able to see the full picture

the point of view sustains linear structure rather than relying or shaping opinion based on points of reference, that's when things get botchy

And the sad thing is, the Jacksons don't even pay nostalgia fans like himself any attetnion

and this is a perfect example of a fly by making a comment but not understanding the root cause of why this predicament occured to begin with......

but since u opened up a can of worms, dry worms........

this highlights the dysfunctional manner in which the pop ascension has operated over the past 26 years where

see, it aint about black, it's about your foundation, whomever they may be during the beginning of an experience, it's about who your original support is

if you're a country music singer, then those who grew up listening to country music is going to be the person's original audience, the foundation, the ones who make it all possible....

but the pop ascension destroyed all of that, especially a number of black artists of the 80s started to gain greater prominence, they were drawn from their original audience....

so the audience you see the Jacksons playing to in the present exclusively exists because of that dynamic...

for you see, the pop ascension lacked balance, it operated on extreme measures, that's the only way it could exists in order to exploit culture and disregard the original support

but if things were done in balance as it should have been, then those artists would have been able to maintain rapport w/their original support while garnering a new generation of fans

and therefore YOU WOULDN'T HAVE OLD SCHOOL VS NEW SCHOOL.....

class is closed for the day

Don't even dare try to knock me. You dwell on these kids paternity. What's more scummier than that?

My point about the Jacksons is, the tabloid crowd hates them, would never in a million years support them, most intereviewers don't even know who the Jacksons are, while the urban crowd isn't nearly as hateful towards them and do have some respect for what they've accomplished, but because the family is clueless and because they instead want to get paid, they embarrassingly ignore fans like yourself and choose to play up to the tabloid media. I can't think of any other public figures that do this. So this is why when I see fans like yourself kissing their asses so hard it just looks sad.

I going to help you out from digging your own ditch

the first lesson was freshman 101

now I'm going to elevate this to intermediate level for you

once again....you're LOOKING AT THE AFFECT rather than taking into considering the cause and of this circumstance.....

once again, you have highlighted the dysfuctional manner in which the Pop ascension has operated, because it operates on extremes, which creates wedges between the present and the past, creating a void, and in this case, a 2 generational void

but see, during the years I grew up as a child in the 70s, as a teenager in the 80s, there existed balance within the presentation of entertainment in respect of acknowledging those great perfromers of the past.....you see, we KNEW about the luminaries such as the Sammy Davis Jr's, the Dizzy Gillespies, the Duke Ellingtons, the Lena Hornes, the Sarah Vaughns, the Ella Fitzgerald's, the John Coltranes....we had greater exposure to the full spectrum....we knew about the Johnny Cash's, the Loretta Lynns, the Tammy Wynettes, the Hank Williams, the Crystal Gales of the world......the songs that you heard on the radio were more diverse

THAT'S WHY THERE WAS NO SUCH NOTION OF A NEW SCHOOL VS OLD SCHOOL

so as we were witnessing the phenomenon of the Jackson Five, we were encouraged to appreciate the contribution by those who broke ground from years before.......

And even MICHAEL JACKSON himself studied the past greats when he was a child, and incorporated their influence while he was developing his own unique style.......

but when the POP ASCENSION movement took over, the movement shut down that connection, and focused exclusively on attracting a youth oriented audience, and phased out the adult following........

there is no balance, but if there was balance, it wouldn't seem to a fly by like someone is kissing someone's ass in particular.....for if there was balance, there wouldn't be a need to defend anything, or to take sides......but that's the wedge the pop ascension created......

so you wonder why most interviewers of today aren't familiar with the Jackson brothers, because a litany of acts who performed during the age of authenticity were phased from the equation as culture was in the process of being exploited.....along w/the fact their careers were sabotaged some 22 years ago.....

so the entire situation was assed out for ages......

I have 2 more levels of discourse if needed

the next one will be the thesis

and then after that would be the dissertation.......

What is the point of all the rambling from you? All this talk about affect and circumstances? LOL

It's you who overly props up this family to the fans and i'm just pointing out what you say obviously isn't true because this family's own actions shows they do absolutely nothing to enhance their own image, legacy and perception. It would be like MJ always sitting down and giving Diane Dimond and Kurt Loder interviews and exclusives and completely ignoring the Steve Harveys, Ebony magazines, Vibe ,etc. But even with one of the worse teams in the history of celebrities, MJ never would have done that, while the Jacksons constantly do and this is why they don't receive the respect that other famous families get. So my thing is, why is there this surprise that MJ fans don't like them?

With that said, look what happens when things are done correctly.

‘Michael Jackson One’ ticket sales exceed expectations at Mandalay Bay

Tickets for “Michael Jackson One” at Mandalay Bay are moving so well that Cirque du Soleil execs have decided to advance the on-sale date for the balance of the year — even before its official gala opening June 29. Traditionally, the summer box office slows, but not at “MJ1.”

“We’re pretty well sold out with the current block we put on sale to Aug. 31. The demand is incredible. Our best-ever opening sale, and people are here nightly from all over the world. For the premiere, we will officially announce ticket sales through to Dec. 31,” I was reliably told. “The demand is there, and it will help people plan their travel and hotel plans further out.”

Even more extraordinary is that “MJ1” while in previews has been just one show a night. With the spectacular premiere and $1 million-plus Mandalay Bay Beach after-party, the production will start a two-shows-a-night schedule — 7 and 10 p.m., and the ticket demand still exceeds the seating.

Michael Jackson’s brothers prep for gig with AEG Live as wrongful death suit against company continues

Jermaine, Tito, Jackie and Marlon Jackson are gearing up to perform at the AEG-owned Staples Center on June 30. A lawyer for the family says the brothers have no other 'options' as AEG owns most key venues in the music industry.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2013, 10:21 AM

The main, remaining members from one of music’s paramount families - (L-R) Tito, Jackie, Marlon and Jermaine - took the stage on their “Unity Tour 2012" at the Apollo Theater Thursday night for the first time since the death of their beloved brother Michael Jackson.

As Michael Jackson’s mother wages her megabucks war against her son’s “This Is It” concert promoter in court, the King of Pop’s brothers are prepping for a gig with the same company.

A lawyer for AEG Live highlighted the off-the-wall twist as the concert giant fights Katherine Jackson's wrongful death lawsuit.

The company claims it had no idea Jackson’s doctor was recklessly treating his insomnia with a hospital-grade anesthetic.

Jermaine, Tito, Jackie and Marlon Jackson are slated to perform at the AEG-owned Staples Center June 30 — less than a week after Michael’s June 25, 2009, death anniversary — as part of a festival produced and promoted by AEG Live, the company’s CEO Randy Phillips testified Tuesday.

“For at least the third time since Michael Jackson’s death and the filing of Katherine Jackson’s lawsuit against AEG Live, Michael Jackson’s brothers, the Jacksons, have chosen to work yet again with AEG Live,” Marvin Putnam, the main lawyer representing AEG against the mom, said in a statement Tuesday.

“Most recently, they agreed to perform as part of the BET Experience scheduled to take place at LA Live later this month,” Putnam continued. “In fact, just this past week the Jacksons specifically requested that AEG Live provide them with a VIP suite during the BET Experience.”

Putnam added that AEG Live has worked to put on concerts with Janet Jackson four times since her brother’s death and the filing her mother’s lawsuit.

One of Katherine Jackson’s lawyers said the brothers are simply dealing with a market reality: AEG has a stranglehold on key venues in the music touring industry.

“What are their options? Stop performing?” lawyer Kevin Boyle asked outside court.

“Hopefully they’ll survive their experience with AEG.”

The four brothers currently are on their international Unity Tour, which passed through Europe and Australia earlier this year on its way back to North America.

The upcoming concert is part of a three-day festival for BET (Black Entertainment Television), Phillips said, with other acts including Beyoncé, R. Kelly and New Edition.

"BET approached management to have the four brothers play the festival," Joann Mignano, a publicist for the Unity Tour, told the News.

Confirmed: No in-store release for Bad 25 documentary

The highly acclaimed Spike Lee documentary detailing the creative process of the King of Pop during the making of his legendary 1987 “Bad” album has finally been made available for fans around the world to purchase.

The film recently appeared quietly in the online store on the official Michael Jackson website –michaeljackson.com – with no fanfare or announcement from either Sony Music or the Michael Jackson Estate.

Today I learned that the Estate do not plan to make “Bad 25″ available to retailers around the world – meaning you can’t buy the documentary in stores. Instead documentary, which is available in both DVD and Blu-ray formats, will be exclusively sold online – at least for now.

“Bad 25″ was a huge hit with Jackson enthusiasts following its August 2012 debut at the Venice Film Festival, subsequent cinema screenings around the world and eventual television broadcasts on major networks in select regions. The film showcases Jackson’s creative genius wonderfully, taking you on an exclusive behind-the-scenes journey from the conception to the realisation of some of the most iconic visual masterpieces in music history – including “The Way You Make Me Feel”, “Smooth Criminal” and the title track, “Bad”.

It was commonly believed by fans that the documentary would be re-launched on physical formats, featuring additional unreleased footage and bonus features, in order to maintain the momentum that the initial “Bad 25″ campaign had generated. This would follow the the release of the “Bad 25″ commemorative album, Live at Wembley concert DVD and box set – all of which hit the market in September 2012.

However, since the documentary’s November 22, 2012 Thanksgiving broadcast on ABC in the U.S., the global campaign, which at one point included a Pepsi endorsement, TV ads and a CD single, had seemingly come to an end. As a result, sales of the “Bad 25″ commemorative album suffered, selling a mere 100,000 copies in the U.S. to date since its release.

In addition to being available on michaeljackson.com, the “Bad 25″ DVD and Blu-ray, which does not appear to include any additional footage or bonus features, will be made available at the merchandise stands at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino when Cirque du Soleil’s brand new production, “Michael Jackson ONE”, premieres to the public on June 29, 2013.

Update: Spike Lee has tweeted a fan in response to questions about the documentary. Lee confirmed that the “Bad 25″ DVD and Blu-ray will be free region, released worldwide and that an extended version WILL available also. See below…

Fingers crossed that Spike is correct and we get to see even more footage of Michael doing what he does best. Time will tell. Stay tuned…

Cha’mon!

CEO describes Jackson as forceful businessman

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The head of AEG Live LLC told jurors Wednesday that he knew Michael Jackson as a sophisticated, forceful businessman and not the drugged-up performer who’s been described throughout an ongoing civil trial filed over the singer’s untimely death.

Jackson was a far more complex figure than has been portrayed during the trial of a case filed by the singer’s mother against AEG Live over her son’s death, said Randy Philips, the company’s president and CEO.

Phillips said based on meetings he had with Jackson in 2008 and early 2009, he found Jackson to be a ‘‘sophisticated man who had control of his life.’’

The portrait of Jackson that’s been presented to the jury during the seven-week trial has been inaccurate, Phillips said. Jackson was described by both sides in opening statements as struggling with prescription drug addiction throughout his life.

Phillips said he disagreed with the descriptions of Jackson ‘‘because he’s been presented as drug-addled 5-year-old. That was not the man I dealt with. The man I dealt with was forceful. Kind, but determined. He was a force.’’

Jurors have been given conflicting accounts of who should be liable for Jackson’s June 2009 death. Lawyers for his mother, Katherine Jackson, contend AEG failed to properly investigate the doctor convicted of causing her son’s death, pushing her son too hard to perform and missed warning signs of his health. AEG, however, contends Michael Jackson hid his addiction to the powerful anesthetic propofol and that the company could not have foreseen that the singer’s doctor was giving him the drug as a sleep aid.

Millions and possibly billions of dollars are at stake in the negligent hiring trial.

Phillips said he didn’t see signs that Jackson was struggling with prescription drugs when he met with the ‘‘Thriller’’ singer to discuss options for his ‘‘This Is It’’ comeback concerts scheduled for London’s O2 Arena in 2009. Phillips has also told jurors that Michael Jackson never told him he was having trouble sleeping.

The six-man, six-woman jury has been shown numerous emails throughout the trial in which high-level workers on the tour express concerns about the singer’s health, his weight, and whether he was ready for the shows. Many of the concerns were voiced by tour director Kenny Ortega, who Phillips at one point told not to attempt to serve as an amateur doctor or psychiatrist.

Phillips acknowledged earlier this week that statements he wrote to Ortega about Michael Jackson’s physician, Conrad Murray, were untrue. Among those statements were Phillips’ assertions that AEG Live had checked out Murray, and that the deeply indebted physician didn’t need the job.

Murray was convicted in 2011 of involuntary manslaughter for giving Michael Jackson a lethal dose of propofol. Murray is not a defendant in the civil case, although AEG Live lawyers said early they intend to call the former cardiologist as a witness.

I love Beautiful Girl (demo) sad

I wish he stayed in Ireland, working in the studio and raising his kids in a peaceful serine Neverland like greeny grassy land. I remember the man who owned the home Michael stayed in said he saw Michael dancing one night in the grounds. sad Sounds magical.

He could have released an ep on itunes, and had teaser videos on youtube eek

Confirmed: No in-store release for Bad 25 documentary

Stay tuned…

Cha’mon!

Ok I'm officially confused. I ordered the DVD on the day literally seconds after ordering became available online. So is this DVD the extended version or not? I don't get what Spike Lee meant when he said "AN EXTENDED VERSION WILL BE AVAILABLE ALSO."

Also ugh when I ordered it, the website didn't say anything about "PRE-ORDER" that day. When I finished payment process it said Delivery status: Processing and that it would take about 10 to 12 days. I even screencaptured it lol! Well it's been almost 2 weeks since I ordered it so I went back on myplaydirect.com to check my order status and it says the estimated delivery date is 2nd of JULY, and my order status is "pre-ordered" -_- I was supposed to get this DVD and watch this with a friend of mine on the 25th of June damn it neutral

^The dvd release of Bad 25 is just plain screwed up! disbelief No official announcement of it and absolutely zero promotion. I also remember not seeing anything that said "Available for Pre-order" on their website the day the news broke it was up for sale. I had a feeling there might be some "issues" with the dvd release so I held off on ordering it. I'm gonna wait until other fans actually get it and watch it and read their reviews...So then like, 1 or 2 days later then they decide to put the up the "Pre-order. Ships on or before July 2nd" message. SMH. Who's running this and why cant they be professional about it? And yes Spike Lee said there would be an extended version but I seriously doubt that by reading the statement from the Estate. They make no mention of additional footage...only saying that "the Estate did want to ensure that all fans had the opportunity to see the full-length theatrical version that debuted at the Venice Film Festival"
I would think that if there was extra footage like Spike Lee said, they would have said it in their statment. sigh

Not sure of the motives, but i'm glad this was said in court.
