The lyrics of the song are good but the beat omg!

Some of the lyrics are sick. Speaking some truths that I totally agree with. And I don't think it's that the beat is bad so much as the mix is attrociously, ridiculously, LAUGHABLY bad. EVERYTHING is in the wrong place. Vocals WAY too far forward, no bass, tinny cymbals, no weight to the drum tracks, melodies pushed back underneath...blech! "Compulsory Mix"? Yeah, I guess.

I'm really starting to believe that those uncredited producers on 'Miseducation' (who later sued Lauryn) are the main reason for her incredible music back then.On her own,she can't seem to deliver the goods. This song is atrocious compared to her earlier material that they played a huge role in.

That sounds plausible, actually. I remember either Pras or Wyclef saying that she's useless in the studio. Something about her having a shitload of scraps of ideas but no knowledge when it comes to actually putting a track together. I think this was post the Fugees reunion single. You would think after 20 years in the game she would take a few classes or something.

No one believes she's a producer in the technical sense.

But for Miseducation she knew what she wanted, knew how she wanted it to sound, and hired people who could give it to her.

Without her, there'd be no Miseducation.

Exactly right. "Her hands never touched the MPC" one of the Fugee dudes said.

Lauryn Hill Might Go to Jail

Reclusive singer Lauryn Hill will receive her sentence today for the tax evasion charges she pleaded guilty to last year. She is facing potentially three years in prison, after failing to pay taxes on $1.8 million in income, even though her lawyers say she's now all paid up. Hill released a song on iTunes over the weekend in the hopes of raising some funds to pay the taxes, but she's still potentially facing the clink. Which would be pretty crazy, if Lauryn Hill after all this time was sent to jail for tax evasion. I mean, she hasn't made an album in about 15 years, so she's not exactly a big-time celebrity anymore, but she's still Lauryn freaking Hill. From Sister Act 2, for heaven's sake. Where are Wyclef and Pras in her time of need, huh? Fugees! Activate! Lauryn needs you! To, uh, water her plants if she goes to jail or something. I don't know. What can the Fugees really do at this point? The Score was a long, long time ago.

I'm not liking the new single. She's rapping way too fast. Can barely catch what she's saying and the music is terrible. It sounds as though she's doing it because she has to and doesn't give a shit at all.

It's very sad because like I've said before, her Miseducation......is pure genius. My husband and I listen to it regularly.

BBC just reported old girl got 3 months in the pen. As did The New York Times.

Grammy-winning singer Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months in prison for failing to pay taxes on about $1 million in earnings.

She was also sentenced Monday in Newark to three additional months of home confinement.

During a forceful statement to the judge, Hill explained she had always meant to eventually pay the taxes but was unable to during a period of time when she dropped out of the music business.

Before the sentencing, her attorney had said Hill had paid more than $970,000 to satisfy the state and federal tax liabilities.

Hill had faced a maximum sentence of one year each on three counts. Her attorney had sought probation.

It's not clear when or where she'd report to prison.

Lauryn Hill sentenced to three months in prison for tax evasion

Grammy-winning singer Lauryn Hill was sentenced Monday to three months in prison and an additional three months in home confinement for failing to pay taxes on about $1 million in earnings.

Hill, a 37-year-old South Orange resident, pleaded guilty last year in the case.

During a forceful statement to the judge Monday, Hill explained she had always meant to eventually pay the taxes but was unable to during a period of time when she dropped out of the music business, echoing a defense she wrote last year in a long post online.

“I needed to be able to earn so I could pay my taxes, without compromising the health and welfare of my children, and I was being denied that,” Hill said Monday, without explaining what exactly triggered her actions.

Before the sentencing, her attorney had said Hill had paid more than $970,000 to satisfy the state and federal tax liabilities.

Hill had faced a maximum sentence of one year each on three counts. Her attorney had sought probation.

It’s not clear when or where she’d report to prison.

Hill got her start with The Fugees and began her solo career in 1998 with the critically acclaimed album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

She then largely disappeared from public view to raise her six children, five of whom she had with Rohan Marley, the son of reggae singer Bob Marley.

At the time of her arrest last year, Hill wrote a criticism rejecting pop culture’s “climate of hostility, false entitlement, manipulation, racial prejudice, sexism and ageism.”

“Over-commercialization and its resulting restrictions and limitations can be very damaging and distorting to the inherent nature of the individual,” Hill wrote. “I did not deliberately abandon my fans, nor did I deliberately abandon any responsibilities, but I did however put my safety, health and freedom and the freedom, safety and health of my family first over all other material concerns! I also embraced my right to resist a system intentionally opposing my right to whole and integral survival.”

She also said she hadn’t paid taxes since she withdrew from society to guarantee her family’s safety but that she always intended to rectify the situation.

They're not 100% to blame for it. I'm sure before the Internet dominated everything, journalism was already on its way down a long time ago when Murdoch just about bought everything.

She definitely mailed it in with this track disbelief Hypocritcal Lauryn is really annoying as hell since she wasted her potential. She's a fool for not taking care of her tax situation and I feel badly for her kids that she has been sentenced to jail. They are big the losers in all of this yet they're innocent. disbelief
