She has had some great unreleased material from 2003-08 wink some of it better than the entire Miseducation album.

Really? The only song I have post Miseducation is World Is A Hustle (Don't like Unplugged). Mind sharing any of these songs?

In 2013, I don't hear hardly any rapper "go in" like this. It is especially sweet hearing her voice. At least I can hear her over the beat!!

The lyrics are REALLY good and are powerful.

People criticizing the quality of the lyrics are crazy.

The lyrics showcase her talent as a songwriter and why she is critically acclaim.

The problem is this...

The song is not really a song in my opinion. It sounds like a poem or something she would say in spoken word but its just over a instrumental (but she just says it real fast which makes it seem like it is a rap but it is not).

The production (if you even want to call it that) is horrible and generic. The production is so bad that it takes away from the lyrics. She sounds irritated and just wants to get through the song. Its obvious her heart was not in it but I dont see why she could not take her time to make a quality production to go with the song. It did not necessarily have to be really creative but just something that goes with the theme of the song and flows with what she is saying.

It just seems like she got one of her poems and said it really fast over a random beat and said this is my new single.

This really makes me sad. Shes so talented and she is just wasting it. As a big Lauryn Hill fan this is kinda rather disrespectful to me. I know she doesnt give a fuck but I mean damn. Does she realize she still has fans that are interested in new music? Shes been away for 15 years and just throws some crap together like this

I was rooting for her to really make a comeback but it just doesnt seem likely anymore and her heart just doesnt seem into it. If she is willing to release ANYTHING to save herself with no regard to her fans then she obviously just doesnt care.

She hasn't released an album in 15 years but she hasn't been "away". She's put out stuff independently online. She never had a desire to release more music, I don't think.

THAT IS IT!

I was thinking of what else was wrong... it's the fact she does sound pissed and wanting to get the song over with already. Hell i wouldn't be suprised if it was done in one take confused

The lyrics are the only good thing about it but you have to hear it a few times to catch it all...

Hell i would have rather heard an accoustic 3-chord low key production i would have been fine with that.

hmmm
I'm no Stan. Never owned a thing this woman has done -- and, frankly, she generally gets on my nerves. But I will be the odd man out and say that I like the new track.

We always go on and on about wanting new and challenging art blahblah ; work not forward looking to Justin Beiber or Nicki Minaj's remix contribution; work that says something. Here we have a provocative hip hop/spoken word piece that decidedly doesn't sound like every other piece of crap on Top 40 radio and, while crazy bitter, it communicates something relevant to a large swath of humanity who lives a life less charmed than Ms. Hill's. I can overlook her woe-is-me shtick here.

Sometimes we just like kicking folks while they're down or taking shots at easy targets. If Meshell Ndegeocello dropped the same track, we'd likely be creaming over it.

Definitely a grower. The first time on my laptop's speakers through the music was so thin & annoying I couldn't stand it. Decided to put my headphones on -- sounds way better. The lyrics seem to be a bit of a random stream of consciousness, but I'll revisit it.

Nope. Only one to "thank" for that is "Ms. Lauryn" herself. The insane, narcissistic wench didn't pay her taxes and as a result, had to put her final court plea over a random instrumental and call it a "song". Not exactly the industry's fault!

I hope she fades into complete obscurity like she deserves.

I am biased. I prefer Lauryn's singing over her rapping. I love her singing on songs such as Nothing Even Matters, & The Sweetest Thing. I'll take Lauryn singing over her rapping any day.

I'm pretty sure most people are expecting her to be singing on the new songs and getting disappointed.

I actually do think she shows her real talent singing. She has shown great rapping skills (seems here she was competing with Twista lol) but it's definitely a song even she doesn't take seriously especially with the anime background music. Guns' posts of her post-2002 material (including Social Drugs, etc.) shows she can still deliver as a vocalist and songwriter. But here, it just seems like she was on autopilot (to me).

The song actually sounds fairly interesting to me. I am not crazy about her delivery; it seems a bit bland. It also sounds like a glimpse into the mind of a crazy person. But the song is called Neurotic Society, so what should we expect?

I like it. No one can touch her lyrically. No one tries.

And why should they, when you'll get labelled crazy for venturing beyond two main themes; "You broke my heart" or "I'm so in love with you".

But I will agree that it soundfs like a track once left off of...

But that's not necessarily a bad thing, just not Lauryn at 100, which honestly, is what we want.

I didnt notice it on my 1st listen but, The beat is different from a lot of the Boom Bap type rhythms in Hip Hop..

Its actually a shuffle kinda like Stevie's "Higher Ground"

& sorta sonically in the zone of something Hank Shocklee & Bomb Squad might have done back in the day.. Its not my type of thing nor is Most Hip Hop but,

At least she cant be called a sell out cause this aint Radio friendly or Commercial sounding At All!!!!

Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)

Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix) Lyrics Lauryn Hill

[Verse 1]
We're living in a joke time, metaphorical coke time
Commerce and guru men, run the whole world man
...old world brutality
Cold world kills softly, whole world runs savagely
Reading into prior things, program TV screens
Quick scam and drag queens, real likely to blast fiends
Think twice and past dreams, crime if you ask clean
Quick fast, the poison has entered the blood stream
Psychological master, consequences of tragedy
Mythological characters, men and women is parody
Superficial vanity, borderline insanity
Out of order humanity, crime committed so passively
Desperados and casualties, corporations want batteries
Explanations of strategies, domination and mastery
...bankrupt, grown people so corrupt
Light swords and yellow men... popularity
Culture so independent, vultures scavenge reality
Past feeling depravity to kings social cavity
Prey on human ignorance, popular immorality
Sympathy disease head, population misled
Self indulgent past dead, absence of the God head
Pimps, pushers and...
Nepotism, no artistery
...and privacy
Desperation, dishonesty
Physicist is your policy, more money, less equality
Inflated global ego, imitating reality
Fuel cycle pharaoh, poisonous poison arrows
Hypocritics on salary, idle hands that was agency
Predisposed to complacency, jealousy, audacity
Contagious social gluttony, stages of mass belignency
Effort to make conception, generation in atrophy
Glam life in debt, scam life in editors
Byproducts of neglect children hiding from crediters
Absence of self respect, fully scared of competitors
Lifestyle of luxury at someone's expense
Sensitive children, used up and sacrificed
Blind to the consequence, smoked up on dope pipes
Ecstasy, fast life, recklessly past life
Narcotics and cash fight, just neurotic society
Benefactors turned actors, addictions triple captors
Experience manufactures just neurotic toxic society

[Verse 2]
It's like post-war, they looking for the commenters or who the marxs is
Ten thousand pictures on Facebook, it's like the pot callin' the kettle narcissist
Come on really, sayin' it's the devil, but you're the chief arsonist
Hypocrites can't even see their own part in it
No reflection, vampire paradigm
No introspection, break down
Three months before pure obsession, picture can't take down
Children, this a shake down, they just lookin' for a sacrifice
They been doin' this since before Bobby Darin sang Mack the Knife
Before James Dean's car did a jack knife
...because they lack life or lack guts
Never confuse the head with the butt
Opinions are like assholes and most of 'em stink
I was told by a woman, so rethink, don't ever let them ever lead you to drink
Leave you to doubt, lead you to fall
Get up, stand us, pass Lucifer out
Shake it up baby, watch them twist it and shout
Insecure assholes lookin' for a ticket
To ride on somebody like the picket, it's fuckin' wicked, shame on 'em
This neurotic toxic society

[Verse 3]
Sick cycle psychology in desperate need of psychiatry
Exorcism, sobriety, forcin' social lobotomies
People stuck in dichotomies, pseudo-sicko anxieties
Serial criminals dressed in variety
Social transvestisms, subliminal dressed up as piety
Transforms projections like Cartesian images
Robbing innocence, stealing inheritance
Quiet victims with no defense portrayed over dollars and cents
Maladjusted ignorant malediction and dissonance
Too much addiction, no consciousness
Don't trust it, this cosmology is busted
Broken returns to the dusted, stems of corruption
Oppression, deceit, abuse and repeat
They don't feel complete unless they're robbin' the sheep
Man is not a product if you call it that then stop it
In this neurotic godless society
