I think it's very close to call who is "better". Also, as I always say in this type of topic - "better at what?"
No doubt both are phenomenal innovative artists who changed the landscape of popular music.
My personal preference is Stevie - I simply like his music more. |

Really? Completely disagree with that comment but I can say they probably know a great deal more about Stevie than Jones (Bowie) |

Unfortunately, it always does on this site.
I have to say Stevie too (and I'm white). I do like Bowie, but Stevie's music moves me more and I find it more uplifting. |

That's why Prince fans are the best, because more of them have eclectic taste than any other fanbase I've ever seen. |

Good point.
I can't see why it can surprise that Prince's fans are also Bowie's fans. For me, their similarities are big, and each one was the most influential artist of his respective golden decade. The 70's were Bowie's, and, like Bowie himself said, the 80's belonged to Prince.
Actually, I find it more surprising that Prince's fans are also Madonna's fans, but, well, I guess their relevance as 80's icons can tie them together.

Co-sign. I like Bowie a lot, but Stevie is my favorite solo artist by a country mile. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis |

We've sure had plenty of threads on Bowie on this site recently. Some of them have appeared even on the main forum (Prince: Music and More).
I suppose people that are into more "lightweight" pop / r&b are just bound to start more threads on forums due to them being less critical of the subject matters that interest them (gossip, chart performances, "who's the better dancer" type of discussions etc.). |

They aren't. Outside of "Fame" and I'm Afraid of Americans, I don't listen 2 Bowie at all. |

Most people of all races don't listen to a multitude of many artists, outside of those that post on forums, and even then a lot don't. |

Interesting, because most Prince fans I've met ONLY listen to Prince, sometimes they listen to some other stuff but more commonly it's often only Prince they talk about or discuss. You can also see that on this board, the people on music & more are the ones that have a more eclectic taste than the ones that are on prince & more... Just an observation and you may disagree, but that's just my experience. When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace -Jimi Hendrix |

GoldenEPump said: Interesting that many of you are saying Bowie. Whilst I think Bowie is more consistent, as he doesn't have many 'bad' albums as Stevie does, his highs are not on the same level as Stevie's. 'Talking Book', 'Innervisions', 'Fulfillingness' First Finale' and 'Songs in the Key of Life' are all greater than anything in Bowie's catalogue for me. But after 'Hotter Than July' Stevie nosedived faster than any artist I'm overly familiar with, I'd say. I agree with just about every word here. |

i tried to listen to a few of Bowie albums and while there were some good tracks on ziggy, i found his music to weird. I mean Prince is weird as well but i had no problem liking his music instantly.
I love Wonder's 70's work and will take him over Bowie. He is a better singer. He is a better instrumentalist (no one can seriously argue that). Golden Lady, Higher Ground, Supersition, As, Knocks me off my feet are better songs than anything i've heard from Bowie (though admittedly i've only heard like 4 albums) |

Stevie, Bowie and Elton are basically the Three Kings of the 70's
pointless to argue about who was the best
but I'll say this: Bowie ended that golden decade in a WAY more graceful manner than the other two... |

Although, I do reconize Bowie's gifts to music, I enjoy Stevie Wonder's music more. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment |
