Nick Cannon to bring back Soul Train.

Not only is Wild N Out returning, but Nick just purchased the rights to Soul Train.

Oh, well good Lord! Let the dead stay buried. The last few years of the show were terrible. Very few artists sing Soul or authentic R&B anymore. He needs to rename the show because I'm sure there won't be anything soulful about it.

Will he be hosting as well?

I remember Don Cornelious (of course), Shemar, the comedian guy, and the soap opera actor.

There's no need in recycling classic shows. Just make it something new with a new format and new title.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

This MIGHT work.

We don't have a "Soul Train", "Dance Party USA", "American bandstand" for this generation so there is a void.

But we also have to assume that this generation is cool and creative enough to bring a look and dance moves that warrant the attention of the public.

There sure are a lot of dance crews out there so it could definitely be a showcase for that sort of thing.

A producer with vision could make it work.

too bad there is no vision, cause u gotta sell right out the box which means do what everyone else is doing, there are already too many "wanna be" shows out there, with American Idol the voice, dancing with the stars there is no void, there is an OD. The problem is what artists are u gonna showcase on this show, not the dancing, and then where do u put the show? Saturday afternoons, Prime Time? The Audience they are looking for doesnt even watch tv anymore.

Here's another problem:

They're gonna have to pay the kids this time around to get the best dancers. Kids ain't dancing for just KFC and soda anymore. The old Soul Train had the best dancers. The best dancers left Soul Train and got on tours, danced in videos, when videos came around. I don't know anyone who was checking for the Soul Train dancers right before the show ended. Late era Soul Train didn't have the memorable dancers. Old Soul Train had partners, choreography, coordinating outfits. wink

You notice my vision focused on the dancing and NOT the artists. The latter IS the show's achilles heel.

I would like to think that they wouldn't have to pay the best dancers to be on the show, after all isn't exposure and publicity everything? I mean look what it did for these two:

That was the 70's, pre video age, LOL! It did work out for Shalamar (and later years for Rosie Perez). Hollywood dancer kids have lots of options now. They can get paid. You will still have people show up to get a free concert, but I don't think you'll get the best dancers anymore unless they start to pay. The best can go on tour with somebody, and dance backup, do videos. Way back when, there were no videos, video music channels, etc. You eventually started seeing the Soul Train people pop up in videos. I didn't watch too many late era ST shows, but I just remember people shake dancing, trying to be sexy. It wasn't like what they had going on, on the old shows. The best dancers were gone in my opinion.

I hate using old lines but I'm going to, I ain't gon' knock the man's hustle, the brotha needs to work. The shade underneath Mariah must be too dark but he's sleeping with her and I'm not, that's worth four stars.

The de-evolution of the Soul Train line.

This ought to be an interesting Adventure for Nick...Are viewers ready for Live dancing on TV again? Soul Train does fall under "Reality" so rebooting it could work. I'm guessing it will be syndicated and sold in any market that wil air it.....

I stopped watching Soul Train in the late 80s and I certainly won't be watching any "new" episodes in the future lol They need to let this show rest in peace. It was mainly a 70s thing anyway.
