Where Is Lala Hathaway? The last thing I heard from her is her work with Joe Sample and thats it. I'm sooo in love with her voice, you could say she's the female version of her father but with a jazzier and street appeal. I bought her debut LP once it was released back in 1990 and I'm still enjoying every moment from it, she also released another LP in 94 called "A Moment" but its out of print now.
Why is that ppl with GREAT talent are sooo cheap when it comes down 2 releasing more music while the ppl with LOUZY talent are highly kind?? Makes me say "ain't that a b!tch"?? Anyway,,if you guys know whats the 411 on her then step in.

I don't know where the hell she is but I wish she would come back. Baby Don't Cry is my cut off her first album and there is not another voice out there like hers. When I first heard her sing When Your Life Was Low(not sure of the title) with Joe Sample, it made me cry, it was so beautiful.

Baby,,you're talking my language now I used to play that song like crazy. "Street Life" is also beautiful(in a funky way ) but I don't remember who's the original artist who sang it.

Hey Harlepolis, have U heard The ladies man
soundtrack?.from 2000 There´s this incredibly beautiful song All this time with Lalah Hathaway & Marcus Miller. She´s 1 of my favourite singers. She reminds me a lot of her dad,Donny Hathaway. She´s got that deep tone in her voice that I adore. It´s a pity she don´t record more frequently. Imagine her doing a concert with a lot of Donny stuff. /peace Manki

This is so strange - I just looked @ the liner notes for Cookie yesterday & noticed Lalah's name. She arranged the vocals too, right? Caron Wheeler is on Cookie as well, nice to know they're putting those beautiful voices to work

I try 2 get away from them as much as I can,,don't get me wrong, I respect them 4 doing there thang and come up with serious shit but what I always tell myself is "why do I have to check their stuff when I'm already checking on the original one?(Prince)" lol thats my excuse 4 my sistah. I know you're rolling yo eyes behind the monitor while you're reading this

I know you're rolling yo eyes behind the monitor while you're reading this No, not rolling my eyes just a bit confused I guess. Meshell is an incredible artist & when I listen to her I don't think about Prince or what his influence may have been on her. She's fantastic in her own right & her sound is nothing like Prince's IMO. I think the "Prince influence" is more pronounced in your perception of her music than in the music itself. How can you dismiss a body of work based on who the artist was influenced by? Hell, if you're only gonna listen to the pioneers your playlist will be mighty short, you might as well stop listening to music!! Everybody is influenced by somebody, she's not biting the man at all. You're missing out woman! I just hope you change your mind one day, then you'll kick yourself for not getting to it sooner... Or maybe you just don't wanna listen b/c your big sister is telling you to? Hee hee...

LOL yeeeah, I knew you would say sumthin like this but I feel ya tho actualy, I'm kinda waiting 4 the chance 2 check her out *LIVE!* either here(in Harlem) or in Newark NJ(where my sistah lives) thats how artists grow in me. Thats how I became a fan of Macy Gray after disliking her ass so much. But gotta give credit where credit is due,,,the sistah is slammin' when she's playing that bass. I also loved her song with Marcus Miller(4got the title )
