Rank Your Favorite 80's Artists by Albums

I couldn't really find a way to describe the topic well but basically:

Rank each album they made in the decade 1-4 points 1=meh 2=okay 3=great 4=awesome

There doesn't have to be a certain amount of artists picked.

Here's mine:

Prince- 33 Points

Teena Marie- 24 Points

Luther Vandross- 23 Points

Eurythmics- 20 Points

Rick James- 19 Points

Tie:

Michael Jackson/Jacksons- 15 points

Bruce Springsteen- 15 Points

Lionel Richie/Commodores- 14 Points

George Michael/Wham- 12 Points

Tie:

Madonna- 11 Points

Culture Club- 11 Points

Sade- 11 Points

Janet- 11 Points

I love GNR, but HOW did you get 11 points for their work in the 80's?? eek They released only two albums: Appetite for Destruction (1987) and GN 'R Lies (1988) .... it is a maximum of 8 points per our policy wink

Metallica:
Kill 'Em All 2/4
Ride the Lightning 2/4
Master of Puppets 4/4
... And Justice for All 3/4

If the purpose is to determine who made the best music in the '80s, then you should use averages; otherwise, artists with more music released (Prince) will outrank artists who released less music (MJ, for example), regardless of how you rated their albums.

Anyway, for me..

  1. Prince: 25 points (Dirty Mind-1; Controversy-4; 1999-3; Purple Rain-3; ATWIAD-3; Parade-4; SOTT-3; Lovesexy-1; Batman-3)
  2. Yoko Ono 15 points (Double Fantasy-4; Season Of Glass-4; It's Alright-2; Milk and Honey-3; Starpeace-2)
  3. Bruce Springsteen 14 points (The River-4; Nebraska-4; Born In The USA-4; Tunnel Of Love-2)
  4. U2 13 points (Boy-3; October-1; War-3; Joshua Tree-4; Rattle and Hum-2)
  5. Stevie Wonder 11 points (Hotter Than July-3; Woman In Red-2; In Square Circle-3; Characters-3) [did I miss any albums?]
  6. Lionel Richie: 8 points (Lionel Richie-3; Can't Slow Down-4; Dancing On The Ceiling-2)
  7. The Jacksons: 8 points (Triumph-4; Victory-3; 2300 Jackson St.-1)
  8. Janet Jackson: 8 points (Janet Jackson-1; Dream Street-2; Control-2; Rhythm Nation-3)
  9. Michael Jackson: 7 points (Thriller-3; Bad-4)
  10. John Lennon: 7 points (Double Fantasy-4; Milk and Honey-3; (not counting other outtake comps))
  11. Marvin Gaye: 5 points (In Our Lifetime-3; Midnight Love-2)
  12. Madonna: 5 points (Like A Virgin-3; Like A Prayer-2 [Not familiar enough with the other albums, though I own them])

Despite my list showing otherwise, Michael Jackson is definitely my favorite of the 1980s. Bad outranks any other album I listed.

I couldn't even count Dylan records confused

I adore Bob & he is my favorite artist next to Stevie Wonder.. but he made some really messy records in the 80's. But i do love Oh Mercy.

"Empire Burlesque" is very underrated IMO, it is my favourite 80's Dylan album, "Oh Mercy" second. Could do without the early 80's christian period though.

Why are you guys including Dylan if you don't like his albums in the 80's. It's your favorite 80's artists. Not your favorite artists and the material they made in the 80's

I would still rank Dylan among my favourites of that era based solely on the two records he released that I really like. He's my favourite performer overall, and even at his worst his records hold a lot of interest for me.
