I have all of Nelly's albums except the last couple. I'm not embarrased about anything. It seems I'm the only one who had children's records. lol I had more than the ones I posted, but I picked those myself, most of the others were bought for me or were 45s. I had a Sesame Street Monsters album that I won at school in the 1st or 2nd grade.

If you're ashamed of stuff and call it "guilty pleasures" or "cheesy", why buy it in the first place?

People's tastes change. I certainly don't like the same songs now that I did when I was in elementary school. I think that's what this thread is about--to see what you were into when you were younger and how different, if at all, it is to what you're into now.

That is true for some, but oddly I pretty much haven't changed my taste as much as expanded it greatly. Things I grew up with listening to via my parents (Beatles, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Three Dog Night, Fleetwood Mac, etc) I still love, and things I started listening to in the early days of MTV (Eurythmics, Human League, MJ, etc...) remain among my favorites.

I guess I haven't grown up much biggrin

Yeah, some folks "grow up" and become serious and disown things that don't fit with that. wink If I liked something when I first heard/saw/read it, I still like it. That's why Smokey And The Bandit is my favorite movie to this day. Even if I got tired of hearing something that was played a lot on the radio, I don't dislike it and can listen to it after not hearing it for some time. I still play the kid records every once in awhile and remember all of the words to them. I was listening to the Zoom record about a month ago.

Yeah, Nelly's stuff had stickers on them unless he had the Wal-Mart clean versions.

Yes it was the crappy edited version. And sometimes when you grow up there are some thing's you just don't like anymore shrug i guess you think it's odd i hate to admiting to buying his CD. Because he was cool when i was a kid to me, now i find him to be silly and his songs to be dumb. That's just my opinion, if you liek to listen to all the stuff you bought when young that's cool wink

I also used to love poison, Warrant, Danger Danger and lots of hair metal bands. And i just can't get into them anymore.

actually - you're right - the album was just called The Monkees (1st album) but because it had the theme song Here We Come - I believe we referred to it as that.

From what I can remember:

1.Michael Jackson- Thriller

2.Michael Jackson- Dangerous

3.Weird Al Yankovic- Off the Deep End

4.Billy Joel- An Innocent Man

5.Prince- Hits 1 and 2

6.Paula Abdul- Forever Your Girl

Most of these I would still count amongst my favorites. Only Paula Abdul's album hasn't aged as well.

Yeah my uncle loved it and got me into it then, and I kept hearing it for a few years! That's how I knew MJ's Bad too through him smile I was soooo young.

Recently, my grandma found his original tape single and gave it to me, with the cover and all!

I clearly remember saving up and buying Hysteria and New Jersey (on cassette) with my allowance money. Hmm, I'm not sure what else. I remember having the Ghostbusters 2 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles soundtracks as well as Richard Marx' Repeat Offender and Milli Vanilli's Girl You Know It's True. Oh, and the Danny Elfman score, but not the Prince soundtrack, of Batman, AC/DC's The Razors Edge and Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction. My next purchses probably would have been a bunch of AC/DC, Kiss and Anthrax cassettes.

There was a deluxe 2 CD version of the debut released in 2006. Actually, there were double sets for all 9 Monkees albums from the 1960s released between 2006 and 2007. For some reason, Rhino/WB repackages/remaster The Monkees albums every 3-5 years. The 2006 version has both the stereo and mono mixes of the album, plus alternate mixes, unreleased songs, even commercial jingles. Rhino released a 3 CD set in 2009 called The Headquarters Sessions, which contains demos, unused takes and songs, instrumentals, studio chatter, etc. It's sort of like the Beatles Anthology albums, except Headquarters Sessions is only for that album.

Apparently they must sell, because remastering costs a lot of money, and Rhino/WB has released new versions of the albums every few years since the early 1990's. They also put out endless Monkees compilations with the same songs, like Motown. lol Usually each version of the albums have different extra tracks, like B-sides or alternates. I didn't get any of the 1990's ones because they were just the regular albums, but I did buy the box set Listen To The Band. I bought a few of the 2003 versions, and a couple of the 2006 double CD's. I bought the Genesis remastered and remixed CD/DVD box sets from 2007, and they were costly, so I didn't bother buying the other Monkees double CD's.

all three of which I still listen to regularly and like every single song off.

Yes, it was. My mom's cousin had one. It was like the LP and didn't have the extra song like the CD version. A few record stores still carried them. Columbia Club (12 albums for a penny!) sold 8-tracks and reel-to-reel tapes until the early 1990's. Malaco Records still releases cassettes today and sell them in their mail order catalog. My mom orders from them. She got a tape in the mail a couple of weeks ago.

I don't know that it's fair to include Mom's invention in his success. Nesmith was/is pretty much his own making. He was young when the Monkees phenominom happened; set himself up right there. He's a constant, always producing something. Lawsuits are just part of business and suits for theft are a dime a dozen.
