I like that you've warmed to COADF over the years.

I have always wanted to copy your idea of a mix cd of all the songs that inspired that thing (SOS Band, Pet Shop, etc) but too damn lazy.

I definitely have nod

It's a great project. There are some tracks that I don't care for (Isaac, I Love New York), but overall it's a terrific album - a collection of songs which work really well together. I feel her latest efforts have not really been cohesive in the same manner.

I also love how she rearranged some of her hits for that tour. I actually prefer the Confessions Tour version of Erotica to the original, and I wish there was a studio version of it.

Also, her singles from that period were killer. She has really lacked amazing, knock-your-socks-off singles for both HC and MDNA.

To the original eek eek eek eek

wow, i almost can agree if it weren't for the original song and album being the mecca of me hitting puberty - it was fucking killer, maybe the best thing she's done in a decade (the CT mix), besides "Get Together"

I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

But let me tell you why!

I love the album version of Erotica. It's an incredible jam - very sexy, and dirty but still slightly coy about its naughtiness.

The Confessions Tour version is the flip side: it's about making love versus fucking. I love the romantic, sweeping spin she put on the original track, and prefer it in many ways because it has a softness and tenderness that the original doesn't have. It's about the connection and intimacy between lovers. To me, that's more erotic than, well, a bondage club lol

you are both wrong!!!!

this is the only acceptable answer for best version of a Madonna song we all know and love

at times if you need a remix this is once again the only acceptable version of the song

For I, Sister Iona Dubble-Wyde aka Lona Excommunicato has spoke so it!! End of discusion

VC, Erotica isn't supposed to be romantic. The concept of the album was to produce the music Madonna had always been acused of writing songs about sex... and really Erotica is the only song that talks about it so directly and also to present alternative sexualities in a AIDS Crisis Era to abbadon the fear many of her friends and loved ones and fans were living in not knowning who was next to die and have some time in a Sexual Wunderland. Not that concept stuck beyond Erotica, Deeper and Deepr, Where Life Begins, Why Is It So Hard, In This LIfe and I think Secret Garden alludes to it. I can't find the excact interview with Madonna but she said that it was Shep who forced her to rewrite the first draft of Erotica because it wasn't the song she told him about nor was it as in your face sexually has he kinda thought it should be. She listened and gave us what we know as the Erotic(sex book) which WBR made her rewrite again to make it a radio friendly less in your face sexually track. The house beat, the production, the vocal dilvery and the inclusion of El Yom 'Ulliqa 'Ala Khashaba, to represent the way religion controls our sex lives, really captures the essance of what it was to be in one of those dark seedy leather bars to spend a night escaping the heartbreak of your life.

Madonna has never really strucken me as a romantic song writer. Most of her ballads in my mind are heartbroken and longing and loss. She has a way to convey those emotions in her music better than just about anyone. She has also controled and owned her sexuality in a way that has turned off most of the straight male world because she's too powerful for them, inspired many women to be the same and has been the LGBT's biggest alley since she started because we try to do the same.

I don't know if I've used this metaphor on here but I'll restate it. Madonna is that guy at the bar, club, bookstore, bathhouse, on a4a, grindr, scruff or whatever you use that you've been trying to hook up with and fucks you ten ways to sunday and is dressed and out the door before you've even gotten out of the shower. Madonna walks by you and doesn't acknowledge you in public but in the private moments in a large crowd Madonna flashes that smile of you know you wanna ride again, let's do it. Kylie is the love your life who took you to the best restuarnt and brought you flowers and makes long passionate sweet love to you all night long, cooks your breakfast, calls you to make sure you got home ok and says I can't wait to do it again. Both are good but it's the mood i'm in that dictates which I go for

i'm sorry i'm not going to back on the thread, cause i'll end up responding to something someone all ready gave the answer...`

I'm optimistic about this album, I liked Give Me All Your Lovin and sorta was doubting where Madonna was going with this. However, Girl Gone Wild, I started thinking GMMAYL was the label required American Radio Friendly single because Madonna is contining with the euro.gay pop mix that doesn't get much air play in the US. I'm also excited about Madonna doing proper ballads again. I've missed those and I think she's being a better lyricit on this album than she's been in the past. Could def be the best album since Ray of Light but I need to hear the whole thing first.

I happen to prefer that version over all others and I stand by my opinion. biggrin

As far as I can tell, the purpose of the sticky thread is to tell us to post in the other thread. I don't get it either...

Bloomberg News

Madonna Vows to Oppose Gay Law in Putin’s Hometown

By Anastasia Ustinova on March 21, 2012

Madonna’s first tour in Russia drew the ire of orthodox Christian activists. Now she vows to defy a new law against promoting homosexuality when she performs in President-elect Vladimir Putin’s hometown in August.

“I will come to St. Petersburg to speak up for the gay community and to give strength and inspiration to anyone who is or feels oppressed,” the pop star said by e-mail late yesterday. “I’m a freedom fighter.”

The law, signed on March 7 by St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko, a Putin ally and former KGB officer, bans lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered “propaganda” that could give minors “the false perception that traditional and nontraditional relationships are socially equal.”

Homosexuality was outlawed in the Soviet era and wasn’t decriminalized in Russia until 1993. Seventy-six of the 193 members of the United Nations deem homosexuality illegal, according to Human Rights Watch. At least five countries, including Iran, impose the death penalty for consensual same-sex relations, the New York-based advocacy group says.

Madonna, ranked the 8th highest-earning celebrity in Forbes magazine’s 2010 list with estimated earnings of $58 million, plans to return to Russia for the third time with a concert in Moscow on Aug. 7, followed two days later by St. Petersburg. Tickets for both performances range from 1,500 rubles ($51) to 50,000 rubles apiece, according to PMI Corp. and Euro Entertainment, the organizers of the events.

‘Ridiculous Atrocity’

“I don’t run away from adversity,” Madonna, who has used her fame to support gay rights, said in the e-mail. “I will speak during my show about this ridiculous atrocity.”

Madonna’s first show in Russia six years ago was marred by protests of Russian Orthodox activists who objected to her performance of the song “Live to Tell,” which she sang while wearing a crown of thorns and dangling from a cross.

During the singer’s second visit in 2009 on the Sticky and Sweet tour, a Communist group urged her to sing a revolutionary anthem like the Marseillaise as she performed near the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, which was stormed by the Bolsheviks in 1917. The palace now houses the Hermitage Museum.

The American pop star’s financial interests in Russia extend beyond show business. She opened a Hard Candy upscale fitness center in Moscow last year, a 35,000 square-foot (3,250 square-meter) facility less than 650 yards (600 meters) from the Kremlin. This was the second Madonna-themed gym in the world, after Mexico City. She plans to open a third in St. Petersburg, Europe’s fourth-largest city.

‘Lots of Criticism’

The Russian Orthodox Church, the dominant religious body in a country of 143 million people, considers homosexuality a sin. About 69 percent of Russians identify themselves as Orthodox, according to a poll last August by the Moscow-based Levada Center.

“There’s lots of criticism from the media community about this law, but somehow most of the media forget about this crucial word -- minors,” said Vladimir Vigilyansky, a spokesman for the Moscow Patriarchate, by phone. “It’s about propaganda among minors, not about banning homosexuality itself.”

Russia, which is preparing to host the Winter Olympics in 2014 and the soccer World Cup in 2018, was chastised for the legislation by Canada, which issued a warning to its citizens who plan to travel to St. Petersburg to avoid “displaying affection in public, as homosexuals can be targets of violence.”

The former imperial capital, founded by Peter the Great in 1703, is the country’s top tourist destination and a host city for the World Cup. About 2.3 million foreigners visited the city in 2010, the last year for which government data is available.

I'm not sure if what I got was different from what y'all got... I mean it was definitely Madonna and definitely fits with all the teasers.

This album is garbage! Holy cow and I thought Hard Candy was ridiculous.

Its like Timbaland and Pharrell taught her how to make trite, cornball Pro Tool music and she ran all over her past with it for MDNA.

I found myself laughing a lot at how bad it was while listening, but I am not sure if that is an intended reaction to this material. My partner asked me to stop it for a bit because he could not take it anymore.

m- "OH william orbit let's talk about quantum physics, transcendence, and temporal shifts."

w0 - "i have to dig up this drum track from 1998 right quick ma'am. its quite nice we used it on all your tracks then. i have it saved on my commodore 64"

m- "i feel so spiritual right now. let's do the screaming, unneccessary rant in 'gang bang' over again. i sound like i have an emotion towards the end. we need to fix that."

The only decent song is B-Day Song (!!! totally unexpected awesomeness !!!). GMAYL might be decent if it didn't have those useless rappers babbling about vaginas and weed.

Fail.

There is! I have it... smile

I'm obsessed with collecting M's b-sides, unreleased, non-album tracks, soundtrack cuts, rarities, etc.

"the only decent song is B-Day Song" falloff

If that's how you feel,I can't take your review seriously."B-Day Song" is the worst tune on the album.

NewsDay: Madonna still on top with 'MDNA'

Madonna is at a crossroads.

The windup for her 12th studio album, "MDNA" (Interscope), was huge, drawing more than 114 million viewers for the most-watched Super Bowl Halftime Show in history, where she rolled out the album's first single "Give Me All Your Luvin'." However, radio didn't really embrace the giddy, cheerleader-driven pop song, which stalled at No. 10 after its initial burst of sales, even after it was augmented with current A-listers Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. and LMFAO. That welcome re-raised the question that has dogged Madonna for the past decade or so: Can she still be a pop star?

Part of what makes "MDNA" so extraordinary is that the answer seems unclear -- even to Madonna. On half of "MDNA," Madonna, surrounded by such state-of-the-art collaborators as hot producer Martin Solveig, sounds like she is readying her last stand as the Queen of Pop, marshaling upbeat dance numbers, well-crafted enough to match anything today's crop of pop princesses -- Rihanna, Katy Perry and, of course, Lady Gaga -- could muster. On the other half of "MDNA," though, Madonna, with her "Ray of Light" producer William Orbit, sounds like she could easily leave pop behind to create dark, challenging EDM and work on her far-more-lucrative concert tours.

Throw in the fact that Madonna clearly still has unresolved feelings about her divorce from director Guy Ritchie -- and is willing to openly discuss them -- and "MDNA" not only becomes her most interesting album since 1998's "Ray of Light," but her most artistically fearless album since 1989's "Like a Prayer."

There is no filler here, no unrealized potential. Each song on "MDNA" is part of Madonna's internal argument about her future as a pop star, an artist, a wife and a woman. And over the course of an hour or so, they all try to hash it out.

The songs produced by Solveig, best known in America for the dance hit "Hello," are all timely pop songs, ranging from the catchy escapism of "Give Me All Your Luvin' " and "Turn Up the Radio" to the defiant "I Don't Give A," which features Madonna rapping about her post-divorce life ("You were so mad at me / Who's got custody? / Lawyers, suck it up / Didn't have a pre-nup") and employs Minaj in another song-stealing turn.

The songs produced by Orbit are more diverse. There's the tabloid-fodder dubstep "Gang Bang," where Madonna cleverly adopts Ritchie's violent filmmaking style into her lyrics, and the electronic "Some Girls." However, even more thrilling is the gorgeous, vulnerable trio of tracks that close out the regular version of the album -- the Abba-esque, banjo-riffic "Love Spent," the Golden Globe-winning love song "Masterpiece" and the epic, "Frozen"-like "Falling Free," where Madonna looks for a way to move on.

"MDNA" shows that Madonna, who celebrates the 30th anniversary of her breakthrough debut this year, can still pull out some surprises -- even for herself.
