. During 2001's Drowned World tour - which was, at the time, her first live outing in eight years - she attracted criticism for overlooking her older and more popular songs. Just one song from The Immaculate Collection, a 1990 singles compilation widely considered to contain the crown jewels of Madonna's back catalogue, appeared on that tour's set list.

Not to be annoying, but this guy did get his facts wrong, M performed La Isla Bonita and Holiday on that tour.

And it remains my favorite Madonna tour regardless of the fact that it ignored her early work.

PRINCE SHOUT OUT in new Madonna Interview:

She replied…

You know, I hate to use the word ‘control’ so much, because people use and bandy that word about with me, when it comes to my creative life. Everyone says ‘Oh you’re a control freak and you like to be in control.’ The thing is, everything I do – even my song writing – I’m collaborating at all times. I value input from people, and I want it.
I can’t work on my own. I am not Prince or like a lot of artists, who can go in and play every instrument, and record a track, and not hear from people. I need to hear what people think all the time. I like to have my road dog, my side kick. I like the simplicity of songwriting, because in the end, it is simple. You have a melody. You have some words. And you sing.
That, hopefully, is coming from your heart or a million different emotions. Let’s just say it’s more direct.

In The Press: ''A declaration of Love to Disco''
Italian newspaper La Stampa features an interesting interview with dee-jay and producer Benny Benassi today, where he briefly discusses how he met the Queen of Pop and what she asked for when she contacted Team Benassi to work on the new album tracks.

"Madonna's management contacted us to open her 2008 concert in Rome, in every city they used a local DJ. On that occasion I gave her one my CDs with some demos I created in our studio in Reggio Emilia. We didn't hear anything back from them. Then a few months ago Madonna asked one of her producers to call us. She asked us to work on two tracks for her new album. She wanted dance sounds, sharp rhythms that would fit the audience of a pop star. After a while we were in the studio with her in London, for an entire week, working 10 hours a day, to produce the final versions of those two tracks.
We were amazed by her dedication. Though she's the mastermind behind an entertainment business empire, she tries everything first hand, she tests every single sound."

About the new record, Bennassi told La Stampa: "She explained she wanted us because this record is meant to be a declaration of love to the world of disco, in which she was born. An album that gathers together all the styles and atmospheres that have characterized international night life over the last ten years. And to her, we represent Italian Dance music, immediately recognizable, the one "made in Reggio Emilia" in which melody is the vital element. In Girl Gone Wild, which opens the album, harsh and synthetic sounds and distorted rhythms are put together with a central part which is more dreamy and easier to listen to, more pop/disco.

As we explained to her, all the Benassi produced tracks are made of three parts, a very danceable intro, a part devoted to dream and a finale that is once again very danceable. All the records we produced were made keeping in mind these three moments."

Check out La Stampa, March 16 issue, for the complete interview.

my 2 cents on mdna for today

--i kind of repsected how WB and M used to make shorter records - in general (if erotica has a flaw, it's overlong) - they would pick the best 9-10-11-12 songs and call it a day. does wonders for quality control. this is why even though i looove prince and tori amos i will never know their entire catalogs 100% because i can't sit through all the drek they've released - they feel they need to put out every single song. hell every idea for a song they have seems to have to be realized into a full song and released. there's a reason why madonna's been so successful - she has amazing self-editing skills. now with this bloated overlong record with 5 or 6 "extras" that just weren't good enough to make the cut...idk...i hope she doesn't bust these out for the tour, thought 'beautiful killer' sounded good

--still not understanding the hate for GMAYL, love it

--GGW isn't particularly great but it is just the catchiest shit in the world -- a la "Candy Shop" - the bitch has a knack for hearing the right hooks that even if they aren't that great, you cannot get the fuck out of your mind, go M

--im soo excited to hear the main 12 song bulk of the main album in full - i can't believe the fucker hasn't leaked yet

--im impressed with the 'non traditional' marketing that M and her manager are doing. no major talks shows (wtf?) but tour rehearsal pics on Facebook, hyping one minute samples that perez just distributes to the rest of the web; the vip ticketing; the announcing the pit tickets after the fact; this time going onsale prior to the album release (WAY prior); selling tickets so early so as to guarantee multiple sellouts as the dates get closer ( a la sade's strategy); and she's keeping relatively mum and letting the music do the talking for once. it will be interesting to see if her "anti'gaga" campaign pays off in this new age of 'social media' and shit

I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I like the fact that we're getting a longer album this time.I know every song won't be amazing, but I figure this might be her last album for a few years,so I say bring it on! lol Give us a feast! 'Erotica' is my favorite Madonna album,so as you can see,I like to get more bang for the buck.We can always take these tracks and burn our own discs anyway....make it a tight,10-song album,if you choose.

I gotta say I'm like a kid in a candy shop discovering an album I missed (can't believe it!) Confessions On The Dance Floor and it is now my favorite Madonna album. But, I'm really looking forward to the Japan version of MDNA--can't wait to hear the entire thing blasting through my stereo speakers! I also agree with the above poster that Madonna's management has used some very out-of-the norm and up-to-date PR strategies this time around. Although, the giving away free albums has been covered already by you-know-who! wink lol

E is my fave too! and if i could cut one song it would be did u do it....so, yes, i agree, but so far from the clips this one just can't touch Erotica. yes...COADF was extremely slept on .... from Get Together to Jump to Like it Or Not to Let it Will be to Hung Up to Push to Forbidden Love...it's a fukkin classic all around... probably my 4th or 5th fave after BS, E, Im Breathless, LAP and the debut, or somewhere in there....folks just know Hung Up, maybe Sorry and don't know...

To me,the idea of "deluxe editions" is silly. Why not just make one long album? How many fans are really gonna buy the 'standard edition' anyway? lol It seems pointless.

Tbqh M's got a very old school approach - i think especially with the concept of giving this album away with ticket purchases - she wanted to put her best foot forward and assert that these dozen songs are truly the fiber of the album, this is "MDNA" -- it's a clear divide between the songs she felt were strong enough to be 'on the album' and the rest is just filler for fans, Interscope, and a way to build hype around the project. She's no dummy; she knows by releasing two versions with two different covers that the Madonna collector loonies (i say that with love being one) are gonna want both versions and buy two copies of each anyway. This whole thing was done so brilliantly and ruthlessly as they actually took the time to think about the best commercial strategies, something she and WB didn't really do for any of her releases since "Music" -- imo.

She would be wise to have another album ready to go next fall to take advantage of holiday sales.

I don't think waiting another four years would be the best move for her.

She has two more albums to deliver under her contract, and I think she's going to do them in relatively quick succession.

Erotica is my fav, too. Right now, my ranking of her studio albums would be:

1. Erotica

2. Ray of Light

3. Like a Prayer

4. Bedtime Stories

5. Madonna

6. Confessions on a Dancefloor

7. True Blue (if everything was as good as the highlights, it would rank much higher)

8. American Life

9. Like a Virgin

10. Music

11. MDNA (based on what we have heard)

12. Hard Candy

I like that you've warmed to COADF over the years.

I have always wanted to copy your idea of a mix cd of all the songs that inspired that thing (SOS Band, Pet Shop, etc) but too damn lazy.

I definitely have nod

It's a great project. There are some tracks that I don't care for (Isaac, I Love New York), but overall it's a terrific album - a collection of songs which work really well together. I feel her latest efforts have not really been cohesive in the same manner.

I also love how she rearranged some of her hits for that tour. I actually prefer the Confessions Tour version of Erotica to the original, and I wish there was a studio version of it.

Also, her singles from that period were killer. She has really lacked amazing, knock-your-socks-off singles for both HC and MDNA.
