Oh please. Sure, there are many pretty women with nice voices, but we don't know these women. Great for the Woman who sings weekly at the bar by your house, but we don't know her and frankly, I couldn't care less.

I didn't grow up listening to these other unknown's music you speak of or grew up constantly seeing them on tv like many of us did with Whitney so you bringing up these nobody's is POINTLESS.

Whitney was a staple in many of our childhoods. She was one of a kind. Period. NO ONE had a voice like Whitney. No one had that tone she did or her perfect diction or hit those high notes so effortlessly. She had a wonderful voice and her own unique style. There's no one like her.

Whitney Houston was found in the bathtub of a Beverly Hills hotel yesterday ... with her face underwater ... people close to Whitney tell TMZ.

According to our sources, her stylist, hairdresser and two bodyguards were among the people in the room at the time. We're told they became worried about Whitney because she had been in the bathroom for over an hour and it was time to start getting ready for the Clive Davis party.

Our sources say they began to knock on the door and there was no answer. We're told the hairdresser, who is female, went in to check on Whitney. She immediately screamed and, according to our sources, one of the bodyguards came running in and pulled her out of the tub.

We're told Whitney's face was below the water and her legs were up ... like she had slid down the back of the tub.

According to our sources, her body was very cold and the bodyguard attempted CPR. That's when hotel security was called.

Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, but Whitney was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM.

I read this on TMZ yesterday, oh my gosh, what a horrible way to die and it was so preventable too (if this is true).

I don't understand what happened. Did Whitney hit her head possibly and drown in her tub? Did she take medication maybe? I don't understand how this happened.

If you've had your own addiction issues, how can you not have compassion for someone else who is going through the same trial?

If she hit her head, there would've been reports that looked like she probably had a major head wound already but I guess we have to wait until the autopsy to find out what really happened.

I'm hearing that Chaka Khan may be part of the Whitney tribute tonight at the Grammys along with Jennifer Hudson, which is fitting considering one of Whitney's first major gigs was singing background on Chaka's debut solo hit (of course she's gonna sing "I'm Every Woman"). I wonder what Jennifer would sing though.

It does look that way... but that would be kinda bizarre if someone was to drown in a tub unless they were suffocated by the prescription drugs they were taking. That's kinda how Elvis went.

Yes, Chaka will be part of the tribute tonight. Personally, I hope she sings something else besides "I'm Every Woman". Too predictable and I'm tired of hearing her sing it. Whatever she sings, I just hope she knows the lyrics to the song(s). Chaka is known for taking the stage not knowing the lyrics to the songs. Remember that tribute she did to Diana Ross on BET a few years ago? Lord!!!!

^ Agreed. And with remarks like "crack-head Whitney" being thrown at her in life (and now even in death)... no wonder she had problems recovering from her addicitions. The lack of human compassion displayed at these times is more disturbing than the addiction itself

I think if you mix xanax with alcohol for example, it could cause respiratory suppression so if you slip down into a tub of water I'm guessing you wouldn't be able to save yourself or maybe not even able to make some noise.

Another iconic legend lost to drug addiction. Another totally ridiculous and preventable death just like MJ's which doesn't make me sad...it makes me angry. They should both still be here with us making larger-than-life comebacks but no, they allowed the drugs to take control of their lives and take them in the end. I'm soo sad for their families, especially the children they dragged through their addictions and left behind to try and figure out what to do in the wake of their passings.

MJ was sad to me until I found out how he died and in the end I cried because his children watched him die not because he chose his own fate when he allowed the drugs to consume him. With Whitney...well to be totally honest, the Whitney I fell in love with; the Whitney who made me a music lover from the age of 6 years old; the first album I ever owned and begged for was her debut and I remember how I felt when I first listened to it and I remember in vivid detail my feelings with every major milestone she accomplished in her career. That Whitney, for me, died 4 years ago. I was at work and the radio was playing and the DJ came on and started talking about her European tour and how awful she sounded. I didn't want to believe them and was angry that they could dog her like they did until they played an audio clip of her singing 'I Will Always Love You' during that show. My heart shattered into a million pieces that day. The tears started to fall as I listened to her butcher the song she had made into a timeless classic. I ran to the bathroom and cried for 5 mintues...my Whitney was gone. My soul hurts.

The woman who died yesterday was the shell that remained of the once incomparable and amazing vocalist and artist that was Whitney Houston. People can lie to themselves all they want to but that wasn't the Whitney who sang 'The Greatest Love of All'...at least not to me it wasn't. I LOVED that woman like family even though I never knew her...her music touched my soul and means everything to me, but I couldn't support the addict that she became. I couldn't help her kill herself because I loved her too much to risk losing her to drugs. As the old addage goes, 'God helps those who help themselves.' She didn't want to truly help herself so it's hard for me to be sad about her death...I'm just angry and disappointed. She chose her fate when she chose the drugs and her body gave up on her in the end like often happens with years of drug abuse. I will always love Whitney Houston...I never loved the addict...for me they were never one in the same and that's how I will continue to see her. It's almost unbearable to think of yet another OUTSTANDING artist being prematurely snuffed out like a light…far too soon. I'm torn between the profound awe I have for the incredible voices of Whitney and Amy, and the horror I feel over the destructive natures of their respective demise. So many phenomenal performers have fallen between the cracks like this. It makes me feel so sad. I've been looking at YouTube clips of Whitney today, and reflecting on her tremendous rise to massive fame as a young woman. She had it all…Beauty..exceptional talent.. fame..wealth..But when the life/work/fame balance gets out of kilter, and you start putting drugs into the mix, it's completely toxic. What a terrible tragic waste. So sad.

Remember when Rolling Stone used to say that Janis Joplin was the "Judy Garland of rock"? I'm thinking Whitney Houston, in terms of her success and downfall, was the modern-day Judy Garland to me.
